SPAIN“Spain is a country with 47. 265.000 inhabitants and there are 17 autonomous communities, divided in 50 provinces.Among the most important cities we can mention the following:

MADRIDMadrid with its spectacular sight of la Gran Via

BARCELONABarcelona where you can visit La Sagrada Familia.

Sevilla and Bilbao.where you will find La Giralda on the left and The Guggenheim Museum on the right

Two of the most relevant places in other cities of the region, Caravaca and Totana. On the left you can see Vera Cruz Church in Caravaca and on the right some ruins called Wall of Bastida in Totana.

Cartagena is also a nice city to visit. It’s Roman theatre is one of the most valuable heritage in the region.

The coast in Murcia is very particular because of its shape. It ‘s called La Manga because land resembles a sleeve

coming into the sea.

PAELLA AND AND TYPICAL PRODUCTS FROM OUR REGION

The city of Murcia has its most important celebration after The Holy week. “Bando de la Huerta”. The celebration takes place during spring. People dressed in folkloric outfits take the streets and the parades and parties last till very late.

Our city: Jumilla. The Castle is our landmark and it was built 2000 years ago. Located in the north of Murcia,Jumilla is a city with 25.596 inhabitants. Famous for its wine and a typical variety of pears called “ercolina”, the city of Jumilla receives many tourists above all those who like participating in its Wine Festival in August.

The old part of the city and the façade of Salvador’s church stand as one of the most representative images of the city.

Many other places are part of our heritage. On the left the so called Granada’s gate, remaned as Saint Roque’s Arch later and on the right the theatre, Vico Theatre.

Among the churches in Jumilla, Santiago is the biggest and most valuable one.

This is one of the most important images for Jumilla. It’s was made by a very outstanding Baroque sculptor in Spain and it is

admired by people who can enjoy its beauty above all during the he Holy week. The Holy week is part of our tradition, being

one of the events where people participate every year.

. Wine. There are lots of wineries and quality wines. And there are also some events related to wine such as “Music Between Wines” in summer when people enjoy the pleasure of tasting our wines while musicians are playing their instruments.

There are many celebrations related to wine such as the procession of the “grapes child”, this is the name Jesus takes in our tradition.

Infanta Elena Secondary School

Our school has a wide and complete educational offer for students. As it is a Secondary School our youngest students are 12 years old.

The basic level of studies covers from 12 to 16 years old, and it is divided into four levels, first, second, third and fourth of Compulsory Secondary

Education.For those students who cannot complete these levels there are

Professional Initial Programs, divided into two types:Mechanic Cars assistant and Office assistant .

For those who continue their studies after Compulsory Secondary Education we also have two years level for Bachillerato

And these are the different types of Bachillerato we have in our school: - Sciences and Technology

- Humanistic and Social Sciences.- Research Bachillerato (especial group where methodology is based on

projects and research)For all Bachillerato types students must complete 2 years. They finish

Bachillerato when they are 18 years old. After this period they can have access to University or to Upper Degrees offered in Vocational Training.

PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMSThere is a different option for

those students who prefer professional studies, this is Vocational Training and by means of this our students can get a technician degree.

Our school offers two types of Vocational Training,:Cars Maintenance Mechanics and Administration (secretaries), both degrees last two years. One is the beginners- technician degree, it’s a low level degree and the other is a high level

technician degree for Administration and Finances but to have access to higher level degree

our students must have passed a test or have the Bachillerato title.

There’s also a project for those who study French. The Exchange. 14 and 15 year old students travel to a nice town called “Cosse le vivien”. French

students come to Spain in February and Spanish students travel to France in March. Students stay in host families’ houses in both countries.

Since last year students in fourth of ESO enjoy a trip to London. The London Week. This trip is thought to make students feel the need of

learning English in the real context. They spend five days visiting the most

important places in London and they have a lot of fun.

Students in Bachillerato (first year) have also the opportunity of

enjoying a cruise. They travel to many cities in different countries during the cruise.

And for our youngest students we have a trip to Masella, where the learn how to ski. Masella in the Noth of Spain is a very nice place where our students spend some amusing days enjoying snow sports.

We have also a web in our school you can browse to have more information. This web is used by

teachers, students and parents and it’s very important because we have up to date information.

Our school is one of the best schools in the region of Murcia specially for the quality of Bachillerato

studies, the research Bachillerato programme. These students have been awarded with many

prizes in Spain and we are proud of them.

This is our presentation and our goal is learning together and share experiences with all of you.
