The Internet is a great resource for kids. They can find homework help and find positive ways to have fun. But the Internet can also be full of risk for children, like exposure to inappropriate materials, bullying, sexual predators and even drug dealers.

To prevent any inappropriate material help them sign up. Show what not to fill in, so they don’t give away personal information. Use gender-neutral screen names.

Tell your kids not to respond to sexual advances and to inform you if someone approaches them. Not to share personal information including their phone numbers, address, age, e-mail address, pictures, school and the town where you live.

Parental controls are a type of software that can block out (or filter) web sites with adult or inappropriate content. Block access to certain chat rooms, file-sharing, or email.

For parents to get informed on how to prevent their child from drug use and abuse.

Important steps a parent can take to encourage their children to abstain from alcohol and drugs is to keep track of where your children are, what they are doing, and who their friends are. Spend time together regularly. Listen and talk with your children. Try to understand the pressures placed on them and don’t criticize their beliefs.

Inhalant abuse can result in death from very first use. Teens “sniff” or “huff” ordinary household products like nail polish remover, cleaning fluid, and spray paint. Research shows that inhalant use is also associated with symptoms of depression. The physical signs of inhalant use are nausea or loss of appetite, inattentiveness, lack of coordination, irritability, depression, and slurred speech. The danger zone for drug use is between 3 and 6pm.

Good way of establishing open communication with your child. Establish time together, be there after school, get to know your childs friends and their parents. Childs who are close to their parents are less likely to engage in risky behaviors. Overly severe punishments serve to undermine the quality of the parent-child relationship.

Make a positive difference in your child’s life. Have the talk-let them know you know. Be sure to have the conversation when you are all calm and have plenty of time. Get educated learn as much as you can. Be specific about your concerns and don’t make excuses. Remember to always ask Who? What? Where? When?
