January 2017 Members All: Happy New Year !! Hoping you had a great holiday season, and are keeping all those resolutions you made. I did not make any – because I wouldn’t remember them any way! December began with Elks Memorial Day, on Dec. 4th. We lost 13 members and 4 Ladies this past year. I am especially grateful to all the Family members who attended and for allowing us to Honor the memories of your loved ones. I know this is a difficult time during the Holidays, but your loss is our loss. We will not forget them. Our deep appreciation to P.D.D. Dan Maloney, for the organization of this solemn event ,to P.D.D. Randy Smith and D.D.GER Ed Hahn, for their inspiring words, Carol Maloney for her wonderful vocal, Nick Figaro, for the Music, the Officers for their support and performance of the service. Thanks to Al & Ginger Smith, Jane Figaro, Sharon Centanni, Michelle Fairhurst, Donny D., John Plummacher, and Denise, for the delicious “BUFFET”. This is how we keep our promise to our absent Brothers—and Sisters. On a positive note, let me acknowledge Charly Diehl and Richy Centanni, for their very successful fundraisers. Charly gave over $2000 to several Committees, including: S.C.C., Y.A.C. Drug Awareness and Scholarship. Richy gave over $1170 to the Scholarship Committee. A lot of work goes into these Fundraisers, some last for Months. As a reminder there are several still in progress. I urge you to support these worthwile endeavors. Christmas Parties were well attended on 12/18. Santa was here to to thrill the children. Great job Mike Parulis Jr. and Mike Veth and all who helped. As we move into a new year, let us rededicate ourselves to our goals as Elks, both Charitable and Fraternal. I like to keep in mind a simple saying: “I CAN ARGUE WITH YOUR OPINIONS ---BUT NOT WITH YOUR FEELINGS” “THERE ARE NO HEROES” “ONLY ORDINARY PEOPLE - WHO WHEN CALLED UPON” “PERFORM EXTRAORDINARY DEEDS” E.R. YOUTH ACTIVITIES On December 18th, we had our YAC Christmas Party, and what a party we had. The kids had the biggest smiles on their faces you have ever seen when they saw Santa Claus walk in. The kids danced and partied there socks off to the tunes of Joe McGrath. Santa Claus stopped at every table and sat with every child before they had lunch. After lunch Santa Claus, then called each child up by name and sat and gave them each a gift from his bag.A very special thank you for the big guy Santa Claus for taking time to come see our children during his busy time of the year. Thank to Santas’ helpers, Ginger, Amanda and Brooke. Thank you to the guys in the kitchen cooking the kids lunch. Thank you Neil for photos you took of the kids so that everyone can come view them and print them off the website at www.middletownelks2179.org. To print the picture, just right click on the picture and select print. Thanks Again to Everyone... Mike Parulis, Jr., Youth Activities Chairman
