As December is fast approaching us, 2016 has nearly come to an end! The year has flown by and we are now busily preparing for Christmas and the New Year. We have finally received some warmer weather and the children have been thoroughly enjoying water play outside each day. The strawberry and pea patches in our garden have suddenly ripened all ready for tiny fingers to pick and enjoy, which they most certainly have been doing! The children have been participating in many experiences lately including the opportunity to do some paper mache. It was fantastic to see the children dropping their newspaper pieces in the glue, some worried about getting glue on their hands – others not so much! Those that wanted to, covered a balloon with their paper mache and hung it up to dry. Threading has also been an interest with the majority of the children, who used coloured beads, pasta, paper and cellophane to fill up their string in any type of pattern they could think of. The threading creations were then hung from the windows of the centre where they could catch the daily sunshine. A science experiment was conducted with the children on the 9 th of November. Julie had generously brought in some white flowers for us so we could see if we could change their colour with food dye. The children were extremely engaged with the experience and the conversations that were flowing between the children and staff were fantastic. All five flowers changed colour over time; however, the blue flower seemed to be the winner, changing from white to blue within the hour! From myself and all the staff at The Balmoral Early Learning Centre we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year. I look forward to seeing both familiar and new faces in 2017 and we wish all our children off to Kinder next year the best of luck! We will be finishing the year on Wednesday 21 st December 2016 and the New Year will commence on Monday 23 rd of January 2017. The Year is Over

It is hard to believe this is our final bulletin

for 2016.

This year the seasons have been kind to us,

the dams are full and feed plentiful. As a

Movie time “What we did on our

holidays”. Billy Connolly leads a

wonderful cast in a family comedy.

Doug and Abi are taking their three

children on a trip to Scotland for a

big family gathering. They are in the

midst of a difficult divorce, and have

asked the kids to keep it a secret

from their extended family. But as

the inevitable feuds kick in, a

completely unexpected turn of

events involving the children causes

further tensions to rise to the surface.

With the repercussions that

ensue - hilarious and emotional in

equal measure - the family are

forced to put aside their differences

and work together or else risk losing

what they hold most dear. A great

movie we all enjoyed.

Visit to Stanton’s Garden at

Wootong Vale to support the Brit Brit

Red Cross was a great morning with

lots to eat and see.

John Williamson in concert at the

PAC Hamilton, John Williamson is

truly an Aussie icon. His name is firmly

cemented in the culture and fabric

of the country he loves.

Craft day we decorated plant pots

and some tried their hand at rock

painting again with a fun filled

afternoon had by all.

Trip to Hamilton to see the hay bale

art at Tarrington, then a tour around

lake Hamilton. The man made lake is

38 hectare, built in 1977 by damming

the Grange Burn creek. Then it was

off to the Botanic Garden for lunch.

The Hamilton Botanic Gardens is one

of the earliest botanic gardens in

Victoria set in 4 acres.

The men’s group visited the Coastal

Seafarms abalone farm in Portland. It

takes around three years for the farm

to grow an abalone to harvest size.

On our tour we were able to see the

different sizes of abalone and all

the tanks that they live in, learn

about the feeding, cleaning and the

water pumping system that is

required to grow the abalone.

Our final PAG event for the year will

be on Monday 12th with luncheon

and Guest Speaker Tracey Kruger.

The challenge encouraged

people to walk and track their

steps, aiming for the ideal 10,000

steps per day.

Our walking challenge

commenced not at the

scheduled season of winter due to

a delay in the update of the

10000 steps website. We decided

to go ahead hoping the update

didn’t happen during the

challenge. This year saw an extra

2 teams coming on board from

the Harrow region making a total

of 6 teams who completed the

challenge. We commenced on

Monday 3rd October and finished

on Sunday 13th November and

had a total of 89 participants

aging from 13 to 82 years. Walkers

joined from as far as Edenhope

and spanned the Balmoral and

Harrow districts.

For some people, it really comes

down to a need for a lifestyle and

attitude change. Try and slow

down your life a bit and do things

step by step. The human body is

designed to move, so you should

move it.

At the end of the day, there will

always be times when we’re feel-

ing lazy. But if for every reason not

to get up and walk about, you

can think of two good reasons

why you should, then hopefully

you can see the brighter side of

things!

Don’t “Fall” out of the

Routine.

Movement is an opportunity not

an inconvenience.
