‘What do you mean three weeksalone?’. Those were the first words out of my mouth after mywife told me she had to go on

anextendedbusinesstripandthat Iwouldbein charge of our three year old diva. Before Icould flip through images of late-night make-up sessions, princesspartieswithteddybearsandaninsufferabledailydoseofDoratheExplorer, mywifepressedanagendainmyhands.Note:agendaisasoftword, amilitarystylelistofdailychores seems more fitting of a description. The overwhelming: Three-year old girls are non-stopThereitwas,timetowavegoodbyetomommyattheairportandIwaspreparedfortheworstfrom little Cassandra; crying, hissy fits, to outrightviolence.Tobesure,Icamepreparedwithafullystockedbackpackoftoys, lollipops, snacks, and an instant cotton candy kit (ok Imadeupthatlastone). To my great surprise, the seeing-off sessionwent smoothly; no crying, no fits, nothing, although I did get her a toy flamingo on the way backtothecar, justtobesafe. While I had always spent adequate time withCassandra, this was the first time I would be lookingafterherformorethanonedayatatime.AsIexpected,thetaskwasall-encompassing,fromearlymorningmilkdrinks toseveral (likeat least four) dress changes per day, I wasfully involved in the entire day’s program. It’s a constant effort tokeep all balls up in the air and thus I cameto the conclusion that nothing teaches you tomulti-tasklikelookingafterasmallchild.
