Volume 2 Issue 3
Dear Students,
As we usher the year 2020, we look back at the last few months of the
session 2019-2020. An eventful one indeed, where you all displayed your
potential and skills through different programs- International School
Award, Independence Day, Children’s Day, Annual Day, Annual Sports,
Republic Day, Special Assembly on different occasions and myriad such
platforms. You have realized the joy of sharing, working in a team,
learning about cross- cultural traditions, arts, cuisines, global
perspectives and developments.
I am sure you have emerged confident, stronger, active, expressive and
balanced with your experiences. As you march towards another session
remember these wonderful moments, use the learning to shape your life.
Mistakes and failures are the lessons which teach you to do your task
better with greater determination. Play your part with all honesty and
effort.
As the famous bard William Shakespeare says:
‘All the world’s a stage,
And all men and women merely players.’
Good luck!
- Tania Sen
Dear Students,
Children learn best when they spend time with adults who have a positive and trusting relationship with them and with whom they can share their passions. You also learn by making mistakes when working independently at something you love, and the safest place for you to do this is school and home. During the upcoming session break, I urge you to spend time with your parents, grandparents and keep yourself engaged in activities that you are passionate about. We expect to start the next year with a fine-tuned learning and life-skilling system that will groom and nurture you all in a way helping you to stride into the adult world, confidently, responsibly and independently. We are all ready to apply for the Higher Secondary affiliation with CBSE and do expect to start the Class XI from 2021-22 session with our first batch that are set to appear for Class X boards in 2021.
Enjoy your Session Break !!

Save Our Earth
Chuck Grassley said, “What makes a child gifted
and talented may not always be good grades in
school, but a different way of looking at the
world of learning.”
With the theme of MAGNOTSAV as ‘Save Our
Earth’, we have realized that we are living on
this planet as if we have another one to go to.
The truth, we all know, is different. We have to
save our world and this is possible only with our
love! We, at Magnus, seem to have found a way
to save the world.
Robbie, a teenager living in the 22nd century
travels back to early 20th century in search of
Oxygen, as his world is devoid of the valuable
element. In 1930, Robbie meets Gora and
Megha. They gift Robbie a seed that he carries
with him. On his way back home, Robbie
witnesses the decaying natural world and the
negligence of human beings towards nature. He
tries to stop the ignorant woodcutters but they
pay no heed to Robbie’s objections. A
disappointed Robbie eventually encounters the
students of MAGNUS GLOBAL SCHOOL. After
meeting the enlightened children, Robbie’s
faith in humanity is restored and he gets a
sapling as a gift from the school children. A
hopeful Robbie returns to 22nd century to plant
the trees to save the Earth.

It is not about being perfect, it is about the effort. When we make an effort every single day, transformation happens.
That is how change occurs! The transformation, the change in our students is visible through these pictures and reflects
on the proud faces of the parents.

Children’s Day [November 14, 2019]
School Events
Mime Act [November 1, 2019]
The students of class VII and VIII performed a mime act for the first time on ‘The
Conservation of Water’. They enjoyed the process and spread awareness.
Life is a cycle, and a mime act is particularly suitable for displaying fluidity,
transformation, and metamorphosis. Words may keep people apart, while a mime
can act as a bridge between them. To communicate through silence is a link
between the thoughts of man. Mime, like music, knows neither borders nor
nationalities. Animation is best when it communicates without words. When
actors are not talking, but just acting – the audience finds it hard to accept.
However, in a mime act it is acceptable, and the audience makes meaning out of
no words.
Dance Competition [November 6, 2019]
Dancing is so much more than just grooving on the dance floor to your favourite tunes. In fact, the number of benefits associated with dancing will surprise anyone. Not only does it train our brain and body’s motor skills, it is also an excellent exercise for the whole body. It helps us to physically and mentally fit. Moreover, dancing regularly can improve our general well-being, boost our self-esteem, and improve our social skills. Be it modern dance styles such as dancehall, hip-hop, and dubstep or more classic styles such as ballet and tango, they all provide great exercise for one’s body.
For the students of class V and VI, this dance competition was an opportunity to
lose themselves in the reverberating rhythm of the music. Participating students
performed well and the guest judge for the day, Mr. Mehbub Hasan, was
enthralled by the performances.
The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of
responsibility and the wings of independence. Every child is a
different kind of flower, and all of them together make this world a
beautiful garden. Children are the future. Nurture them right, so that
they grow up to be able leaders and lead the world towards light.
At Magnus, we celebrated the talents of students with a Fancy Dress
competition. A Tug-of-War competition and Inter-House Football
Match was also conducted to celebrate the occasion.

Rights come with Duty [November 20, 2019]
Every right has its responsibilities. Like the right itself, these responsibilities stem from no human-made law, but from the very nature of human and society. The security, progress, and welfare of one group are measured finally in the security, progress and welfare of all of humankind. “Life is a balancing act. While we have all the rights to be in freedom, peace, harmony and bliss; we do have a responsibility to ensure that others too enjoy their own freedom, peace, harmony and bliss.” - Vishwas Chavan Our students showed that Declaration of Rights is, by reciprocity, a Declaration of Duties also. Whatever is our right as a human is also the right of another; and it becomes our duty to guarantee as well as to possess.
The students of class IV - VIII went for an excursion to Santiniketan
on 13th December, 2019. They enjoyed their time as they visited
the museum, roamed in the Ashram premises, and watched over
the Black House on their walk through the Kala Bhavana. The
overall ambience of the place was naturally cozy, warm and
welcoming. Children basked in the silhouette of Chatim and
Mango trees around ‘Amrakunja’. The winter breeze carried their
imagination as they moved around the Visva Bharati campus.
Students witnessed contemporary art, sculptures and decorative
architectures. After a soothing morning, the children ate their
lunch in Ratan Pally. As they returned home, they were filled with
beautiful memories, friendship, hopefulness and ‘Shanti’ in their
minds.
Pre-Primary children along with students of class I, II and III went
for an excursion to Kolkata’s Science Centre and Zoo. The young
students were curious about everything that they came across.

Annual Sports Day [January 17-18, 2020]
Republic Day
Special Assembly on Swami Vivekananda [Jan 10, 2020]
“We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far. Our duty is to encourage everyone in their struggle to live up to their own highest idea, and strive at the same time to make the ideal as near as possible to the Truth.” - Swami Vivekananda A special assembly was conducted in the school commemorating the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. January 12 is also known as National Youth Day.
“It's not whether you get knocked down; it's whether you
get up.” - Vince Lombardi
For most, playing a sport is the epitome of hard work and
dedication. To get to the pinnacle of one’s sport, even the
most naturally gifted athletes have to put in a lot of effort.
Playing a sport is about the incredible moments where
sheer human will and desire overcomes all odds.
The Annual Sports Day at Magnus saw an immensely large
participation. Students were encouraged to take part in
some sport competition or the other. Be it success or failure,
our students learnt from both – they developed skills like
hard work, sportsperson spirit, and teamwork.
Walkathon
This year India celebrated its 71st Republic Day.
This day is proudly celebrated as the Constitution of
India came into existence.
A special assembly was conducted in the school on
the 25th of January. On 26th January some students
went to Burdwan’s Police Line for the performance.
As a part of the ISA activity under the programme ‘Incredible
Journey to The School’, the students of class IV in collaboration
with Burdwan Traffic Police went to Police Line, Burdwan to know
about the road safety rules and to make the general public aware
about the importance of those rules.

Birthday Card Making Looking at a beautiful painting, or staring up at a huge, awe-
inspiring sculpture, we are often left struggling for words.
These personal and emotional experiences are hard to
express in any language. But many people, both artists and
non-artists, have managed to capture this amazing,
inexpressible feeling through non-verbal mediums.
Students at Magnus have used the opportunity of Birthday
Card Making to express themselves.
Saraswati Puja [January 29, 2020]
On the occasion of the colourful and vibrant
Basant Panchami, which was on January 29 this
year, people sought blessings from Saraswati,
the Hindu Goddess of knowledge and art.
Students dressed up in bright attires and
worshipped the deity on that day.
Khichdi, a traditional Bengali delicacy, was
served to the students.
Poetry Wall [January 28, 2020]
“Publishing a volume of verse is like dropping a rose petal down the Grand Canyon
and waiting for the echo.” - Don Marquis
Students from classes V to VIII wrote poems on their own for the school’s Poetry
Wall. The creativity of the students was remarkable. The students poured their
hearts out on the topics of ‘Exam Fear’ and ‘Vasant Utsav’
Elocution Competition [February 4, 2019]
“Oratory is the power to talk people out of their sober and natural
opinions.” – Joseph Chatfield
There are three things to aim at in public speaking: first, to get into your
subject, then to get your subject into yourself, and lastly, to get your
subject into the heart of your audience. Our students really wanted to
get into the heart of the audience during this competition.
Wall Art [February 3-20, 2019]
“Even paradise could become a prison if one had enough time to take notice of the walls.” ― Morgan Rhodes, ‘Falling Kingdoms’ The students of classes VII to IX of Magnus worked
hard on their wall paintings. No one could pass by
without noticing the colourful walls. It was as if the
pillars got their very own identity!

Jewels of Magnus - October 2019- February 2020
Editorial Team’s message:
Reaching out to you It is nice to meet you in 2020 in our world of ‘PEBBLES’. In this newsletter, we have highlighted the major events and activities that were carried out in our
school in the last few months. At Magnus Global School, we look forward to your precious suggestions and advices to add a new dimension to our
experiential methods of learning. We also take this opportunity to thank all our caregivers. We welcome your precious suggestions at
[email protected]. Thanking you, Editorial Team- Shuvadip Sil (Class VIII), Sangita Rajbanshi, Prantik Mitra, Debarpita Ganguly Mondal and Nakul Mondal
A day in the life of the House Captain of Vayu House I woke up on February 11, 2020, pursued by my mother relentlessly. I got ready for school but was very excited because of the upcoming ‘Online CBSE Reading
Challenge’. In the school, we were summoned for the competition and we ventured into the computer lab with head held high. However, to our dismay, we lost
the challenge and a thought struck me that we should not have embellished expectations. In the Chemistry class I found a resemblance of my experience with the
‘Bohr’s Atomic Model’. Bohr’s Model states that the further an electron travels from the center, its stability decreases. I understood that as we move further from
our comfort zones, we lose our stabilities too. Be it a chemistry postulate or The CBSE Reading Challenge, everything is somewhat related to each other.
