DISTRICT CONFERENCE AWARDS (CONTINUED) The Edward Osterman Small Club Award was

won by the Ridgefield Sunrise Club. This award is conferred on the club with the smallest

number of members contributing the most locally and internationally. The president of the club

is Gerri Blair, third from the left. This presentation is being made at a 5 club meeting at WCSU in

Danbury.

SOME SPECIAL CONFERENCE ACTIVITIES WORTH MENTIONING: Izzy Gessel

gave an inspirational address on using concepts from Improv Theatre to get your points

across.

DISTRICT CONFERENCE —(Continued) Dale Moore, Madison Rotary, the creator of the

remarkable series of individual Rotary Club posters, chats with DG Gerry Tom. All of the

attendees at the conference marveled at the work that went into this uniquely professional set

of informational documents. We have been told that it was an intricate collaborative effort

with the ADGs in gathering the information, obtaining the photos, and Dale putting all of the

material together. The posters have impressed all of us with the breadth and depth of the work

our individual Rotary Clubs are doing. It is nothing short of amazing. How Dale does everything

she does with only 2 arms is remarkable.

Three Clubs Join to Give 32 Laptops to St Martin de Porres Academy

Rotarians from the Rotary Clubs of Orange, Derby-Shelton and New Haven joined hands with members of the Rotary-sponsored St. Martin de Porres Academy Interact Club who worked together to secure matching funding from The Rotary Foundation to provided 32 new laptop computers to benefit the students of SMPA Middle School located in the Hill Section of New Haven. On Friday October 16th, Rotarians gave the brand new laptops to these wonderful middle school kids as they peered into these young appreciative eyes… it only took a little voice saying ‘thank you’ to bring a bit of moisture to our eyes. St. Martin de Porres Academy in New Haven’s The Hill Section…..changing a community…changing one kid at a time. It takes a village to raise a child … an ancient African proverb that is timeless and so relevant today. When the “villagers” reach out to assume some of the responsibility for caring, teaching and nurturing of OUR kids everyone wins! Submitted by: Rotarian Lynda Hammond
