Buildings have all different kinds of styles. For example, the modern
building that is in the picture has a theme of glass. The building is not made by bricks or stones on the
outside. Instead, it is glass. But, on the other part of the picture, that is an little old building that has different designs than the modern building. (the one in
the middle) if you look closely, you will see that the terrace fences have deep
designs. And, they are covered in bricks, just like in the old times. The building on the other side of the old building,
has great designs too.
Many modern buildings have glass theme designs. Just like this one. This building has glass windows, glass fences. This building looks like it is made out of just glass! Modern Buildings have a unique
way of making buildings look modern. Many builders today have different ideas than the ones that old builders used to have back in
the old times.
This fancy lobby is located on the building that it was showed on the
last page. As you see, it is very modern. The walls are made out of metal and has different shapes and
patterns on it. But the picture below, is zoomed in so you can see how the front lobby is made. Isn’t it made differently compared to a old
building?
There are some buildings that still stand today. For example, the Brick Church. This picture is part of the Brick Church. The elegant window
arches, stylish stained glass, it definitely shows an elegant style that builders and people used to
adore back in the old times.
The Brick Church has been in continuous operation since 1767,
except for the years of the Revolutionary war when it was
commandeered by the British to make the Church use as a hospital.
The reason it was made was because the First Presbyterian Church at Wall Street, had become so crowded that they had to build a new church. Their
first pastor (the minister), Dr. Rodgers, regularly corresponded with George Washington (Dr. Rodgers kept
in touch with him until his death).
This building looks like it has been used many times. In fact, it’s true. In
the Yorkville neighborhood, the Cornelius Anderson #10 Ladder
company was reorganized on October 11th, 1865 to become Hook & Ladder
Company No. 13. The small fire company received a red brick
firehouse at No. 159 East 87th street on New Year’s day in 1868. The men
in the firehouse showed great courage throughout the decades. After a
nearly a century in the firehouse, the company moved to East 85th street.
The building sat empty until November 1962, when Andy Warhol
rented the second floor for his studio.
If you see the picture of the sculpture, you would see that it is fantastic. It looks like it has been carved back in the old times, and
the sculpture must be made out of a material that is not used today, and also,
they must have used special ingredients to make it because the sculpture is still
standing today! The sculpture belongs to the building next to it. By looking at that, you could see that the building was made long time ago. The picture below shows us
how the door is different from the apartment ones, the have special round
rings to knock at the door. The final picture shows how the apartment number is
showed. It is stained glass, and look how pretty it is!
Look how the buildings are next to each other. It almost looks like they have made an pattern. You could
see the gargoyles and faces of animals on the buildings. And the designs on the windows. They all have been made carefully. The
black fence below, is connected to one of those buildings and the
carved metal that is on the fence. Different buildings have all different
kinds of designs, no matter how they look the same.
If you look at buildings today, you would see that they are different
from the old buildings. If you look at this one, it is not completely
finished yet, but it looks modern. And so tall! Many buildings look the same. But actually, they might have something in common, but they are
all different.
