The Jaguar E-Type and the Ford Mustang. Steve McQueen and
Brigit te Bardot. The Beatles and The Roll ing Stones. The 1960s
brought us a number of objects of desire. There is probably no
other decade that wil l go down in (cultural) history l ike this. It
should come as no surprise that an OLYMPUS PEN-F was sold
during these times, and for the f irst time, too. With a new version
of the PEN-F OLYMPUS revives the 1960s – only does it better.
The new PEN-F combines timeless design with 80 years of camera
history and technical innovations. Before using this handcraf ted
piece of technical mastery, you should always remember one
thing: this beauty is a beast.

When you start to Work on a neW
product, What inspires you?
It’s not necessari ly a camera that inspires
and stimulates me. It can be an antique
watch, an ink pen, a beauti fu l bag or an
expensive piece of equipment. These were
the things that inspired me in designing the
new PEN-F. They are al l things that have
a lengthy l i fet ime, and I love i t when you
have a product that gets more valuable
af ter several years.
What Was the major challenge
during the design process?
Def ining the exact posit ion and the sizes
of the Creative Dial and the other buttons.
Every detai l has to be user-fr iendly: so
per fect that a user never wants the camera
out of his hands. To design the camera in
such a way that no screws showed was
also a chal lenge. This ra ises the qual i ty
to the l imit. In shor t, the major chal lenge
was our demand to create a real mas-
terpiece. And I think we achieved this.
What is your FaVorite
design oF pen-F?
The sty le of the ON / OFF d ia l and the
per ipheral v iewf inder. It ’s the very f i rst
t ime that an OLYMPUS PEN has a v iew-
f inder that is n o t h i d d e n i n t h e b o d y.
W i t h my d e s i g n , I wanted to te l l the
wor ld how special i ts v iewf inder is.
hoW much oF the design oF
the old pen-F is leFt?
You can sti l l see how much the previous
PEN-F inf luenced the new version of the
camera. The design of the f irst PEN-F was
modif ied to achieve per fect usabi l i ty and
today’s digital photography needs. To me,
i t was impor tant to rebui ld the design by
keeping the identi ty and essence of the
OLYMPUS PEN ser ies.

The new OLYMPUS PEN-F has a lot to of fer: With the new Creative Dial you get direct access to two
new features that have never been used before in combination with a camera: the Monochrome Prof i le
Control and the Color Prof i le Control.
With the Monochrome Prof i le Control you can set di f ferent ef fects – l ike the Monochrome-Fi l ter-Ef fect
that imitates classical photo f i l ters and also includes a gradation curve. Would you l ike to have darker
shadows or a br ighter l ight? A piece of cake with this new feature of the OLYMPUS PEN-F.
With the Color Prof i le Control, you can change the color saturation of 12 di f ferent colors. A user who
has f ind his favor i te set t ings can reuse i t again and again and is able to take pictures in their own sty le.
With the Creative Dial you can also choose between 14 Ar t Fi l ters and get access to the Color Creator.
And thanks to the new inter face, choosing these ef fects is faster and clearer than ever – even at the
very moment of tak ing a picture. One more step in the innovation history of OLYMPUS.5
the strength of innovAtion.

2In general, image qual i ty is af fected by the lens,
the processor, and the sensor. For the OLYMPUS
PEN-F we created a four th factor: the 5-axis image
stabi l ization. Thanks to that feature, you can work
over a lengthy per iod with low sensitiv i t ies, so that
i t is much easier to take a photo without blurr ing.
Fur thermore, the new image sensor that is intro-
duced by OLYMPUS with the new PEN-F benef i ts
the image qual i ty. Twenty mi l l ion pixels ensure a
resolution that leaves nothing to be desired.
Another feature of the camera: the 50M HighRes
Shot. This high res modus was especial ly created
for the work with tr ipods and sti l l l i fes. Get t ing
eight shots by tak ing one picture increases the
resolution and leads to clear and cr isp detai ls.
F inest mater ia ls and for the demand for the
highest quality, combined with a timeless design,
make for an extraordinary camera. But design is
more than good-looking. A key aspect of product
design is that i t must have an easy handl ing –
especial ly in photography.

The first OLYMPUS PEN with an electronic viewfinder in a rangefinder style – the High Visibility Viewfinder. The advan-
tage: the effects of all features like the Art Filters or the Monochrome Profile Control can be examined before you take a
photo with a certain setting. Moreover, with the new viewfinder you can see if your photo is going to be underexposed
or overexposed, which gives you the chance to take countermeasures.
Quick Response – an important feature of this camera. Af ter all, you
appreciate a camera that takes a picture in the very moment you
press the shutter button. No one l ikes those cameras that take a
picture when the moment you wanted to remember forever is over.
That is why the response time of the OLYMPUS PEN-F is stunningly
short. And since everyone l ike to compete: no other camera has a
shorter release time.
