The End of the
Beginning
In this final portion of
the liturgical year, the
readings remind us of the
'last things' and today, in
particular, "the end of the
world." We should live our lives in the light of eternity.
We may wonder, how seriously should we take the
gospel predictions about the end of this world and the
day of judgment? In reflecting on this, we should keep
in mind life's one great certainty, that one day we will
die. The moment of death will put an end, absolutely
and beyond recall, to all our works, all our plans, all
the seemingly vital concerns which lend an individual
purpose to our daily involvement. Every human soul
that has cast off this worldly body goes forth into the
unknown like a traveler entering into unexplored
territory. "I am the resurrection and the life. He who
believes in me will live, even though he dies; and
whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you
believe this?" John 11:25
In these final Sundays of our church year, the
liturgy invites us to look beyond our immediate
worries, troubles, interests, and mostly selfish
concerns. It confronts us with the unknown but
shared by all reality. People who never look beyond
the immediate here-and-now may resent the idea of
asking us to think about the afterlife things, but there
is nothing morbid about it. For if we are exiles and
pilgrims on this earth, we are drawing ever nearer to
our ultimate home in heaven, a thought that may fill
us with sorrow, but with a longing to be with Christ in
the life to come.
If we love God, we need never be alarmed, for
perfect love casts out all fear. But until the day when
the Lord calls us, we must try to be ready and
prepared to meet him. We must watch, we must pray,
we must let our words teach, and our actions speak of
God's wonders in us.

Does St Denis church have a cemetery? Where is it? Is it new?
These and many other questions came to light as we started
working at the cemetery and making it more known to the community
in general. It is reputed to have originated as a Protestant Cemetery.
However, it was recorded in 1890 the land was donated to the Catholic
society via H.C. Newell, 3 acres of the old Fairbanks Farm, now known
as Kelton Road. Many gravesites date back to the late 1800s to early
1900s. The cemetery accommodates traditional casket interment and
cremated remains. Most veterans buried there are from The Grand Army
of the Republic (G.A.R.) that served in the Civil War.
We had a great prosperous year at St Denis Cemetery. We
celebrated the Mass on Memorial Day with military honors, the Spring
and Fall clean up were very well supported, graves cleaned, new street
signs, new prayer garden, updated and new digital records, maps of
each section, it's not on red any longer or a financial concern to the
church, new lawn equipment, among many other improvements
that couldn't been possible without your support.
A special thanks to Deacon Rich, his wife Elaine, the building
committee, and the Knights of Columbus for making possible the
dedication of Mary's Garden at the cemetery.
Now the cemetery is officially closed for interments until next Spring.
Meanwhile, I would like to call for a meeting to formally establish a
cemetery committee to work on future planning and establish cemetery
policies.
We are meeting on Wednesday, December 4, at 6:30 pm in the Hall
