From the Desk of Father John...

A Prayer When Lighting a Votive Candle A burning candle is a symbol of selfless generosity. It stands unwavering in its place, erect and in perfect readiness to be of service. Stir up in yourself the same generous readiness to be used, "Lord, here am I." "Blessed Lord, and my beloved Mother, Mary, accept this burning candle as a sign of my faith and love for you. Like this candle, I am ready to be used in your service, without asking why and to what purpose. Even as this candle, I wish to stand in your presence to be consumed in the light and warmth of your love. Please hear my prayer and, if it be your will, grant my petition. But above all make me loyal and faithful to you in all circumstances of my life. Amen.” Fall Dinner Gratitude Thank you to all who helped to work, cook, and eat at our fall dinner last week. We had a beautiful day and an excellent crowd all day. Please keep in mind our Spring Dinner in April! Fr. Driscoll Visits Holy Rosary We welcome Fr. Driscoll back this Sunday, as he will be celebrating the 11:00am Mass today. November 1: Holy Day of Obligation Tuesday, November 1 is a Holy Day of Obligation this year. We will be celebrating the feast with a 5:00pm Mass on October 31, with the traditional Holy Rosary bonfire celebration after. On November 1, we will have an 8:00am Mass and a 7:00pm Mass. Mass Counts For the past three weeks, we have conducted our annual counts at Mass. This is asked of us yearly by

the Archdiocese and it helps us to have concrete data about what we are seeing at our Masses. Our average over the past three weeks are as follows: 5:00pm 168 8:00am 196 9:30am 216 11:00am 184 1:30pm 83 Total Avg 847 Three observations I would like to point out about these numbers: First, our average is always going to be a bit on the low side, because we have consistently started counting on the first weekend of turkey hunting season, which is by far our lowest of our counts consistently. Second, average attendance is down 1.5 persons total over the weekend, so we are continuing our flat trend. I am reminded of my glass half full/empty analogy; it’s a good thing to see consistency, but the numbers also remind us of our call to invite others to our worship. Third, the numbers also tell us that people are beginning to opt for later Masses. After seeing 5:00 and 8:00 being our largest last year, we see 9:30 really beginning to grow and 11:00am Mass leveling back out.

Kroger Rewards Program We received from Kroger for the third quarter $98.47 from 25 household supporting us through this program. It takes nothing except the investment of a little time to signup and swipe your card each time. For more information, please contact the parish office. Prayers on Election Day On Tuesday, November 8, our nation will head to the polls. As Catholics, not only are we called to vote, but we are also called to pray. On this day, I encourage people to spend time before the Blessed Sacrament, in prayer for our

nation, that the Holy Spirit will inspire our voting and bless those chosen to lead us. Throughout the day, we will be holding special prayers that we encourage those who are able to to attend. Here is the schedule: 8:00am Holy Mass followed by Perpetual Help Devotions and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament 12:00pm Praying of the Rosary 3:00pm Praying of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy 6:30pm Praying of Evening Prayer More on the Election I have posted a link on our website, www.holyrosarywm.com, to the articles posted in the St. Louis Review by Archbishop Carlson on the election. On the Road Again… I will be leaving for retreat today (Sunday, October 30). It will be an 8 day silent retreat. During retreat, I will not have access to my phone or to e-mail. Please keep me in prayer as I will be praying for you. Calendar of Upcoming Events November 4-5- Food for the Poor visits Holy Rosary November 13- RCIA Rite of Acceptance, 9:30am Mass November 15- School commemorates Veterans Day I will see you in Church! - Fr. We are all called to graciously give back to the Lord in pro-portion to the blessings we have been given. This means everyone isn’t called to give the same amount, but is called to give equal sacrifice. No amount is too small or insignifi-cant! Open your heart, how is God calling you?

Phone Directory & Guide Book

Does our Church database have YOUR family membership record correct? We need to update our database with any changes, additions, or deletions that may have occurred in YOUR family over the past year such as change of address or phone number and children living at home for the 2017 Par-ish Phone/Guide Book. The Parish Office number is 636-456-3698 Ext, 1 or email corrections to [email protected]. Guide Book & Directory Advertising Opportunity This book is again being subsidized by local businesses that advertise. If you own or manage a business and would like to find out about advertising in the Phone/Guide Book, please call the Parish Office. Recent survey results by Guide Book Publishing show that 92.1% of families would rather patronize a Guide Book & Directory advertiser over a non-advertiser. It “will pay” to advertise in our new Guide Book & Directory.
