Call to Action: Senate Bill 360While the Diocese of San Jose will always continue to uphold the highest standards of safety and protection for our children, Senate Bill 360 is a clear affront against the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Seal of Confession. We urge all Catholics to call our local Assembly members to urge them to vote NO on this assault against the freedom of religion. Evan Low is the assemblyman for our district, District 28. His phone number is 408-446-2810.

Here are a couple of options for what to say:

Option 1:“My name is _______ from zip code (#####) and I urge Assemblyman Evan Low, District 28, to vote NO on SB 360 because it is an assault against the freedom of religion.”

Option 2 (anonymous):“I am a Catholic community member from zip code (#####) and I urge Assemblyman Evan Low, District 28, to vote NO against SB 360, because it attacks the freedom of religion.”

Youth Ministry Update By Kurt Martin • [email protected]

July 2nd for the high schoolers (incom-ing 9th graders – outgoing 12th graders). We will meet inside the Parish Center and begin with dinner. Youth group will be from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm for both groups. No RSVP needed in advance.

What’s on Deck?Starting Monday, July 8th, St. Lucy will be holding their annual Middle School Camp. E-mail Kurt Martin for more information.

High school will be going to laser tag on Sun., July 14th from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Please sign up by July 8th.

Two weeks ago, our teens went on a transformative retreat at Lake Tahoe with approximately 270+ teens from around the Diocese of San Jose. This year, St. Frances Cabrini Parish brought 15 high schoolers, as well as 3 leaders. At the retreat, teens were challenged how they could bring what they experienced during the week and bring that back to their home. As part of that effort, teens from the retreat volunteered to give their testimonies in hopes that next year more young people will be able to join us next year at the retreat.

“At the start I felt a little nervous going to a camp with so many strangers I’ve never met. As the camp started, I began to talk to people and really got to realize how different so many of us are but since we were there for the same reason, none of our differences mattered. The speaker Andrew was an inspiration to me and gave me the courage to talk to new people. Through all the games, the song, and the Mass, I became stronger friends with people and made new friendships with many people. I look forward to going next year.” – Elliot M.

Middle schoolers do you wish you had an experience like the testimony above? Then join the Middle School Diocesan Youth Retreat, also known as MSDYR, from Mon., Aug. 5th – Thurs., Aug. 8th. It is $390 to go. Please e-mail our youth minister Kurt Martin for more information or financial assistance.
