Today our 2nd grade CCD students are making their First Holy Communion. We pray that they continue to grow in their faith and love of Jesus. We pray that they remain always in communion with Jesus. We begin this month of May; a month dedicated to our Blessed Mother. Next Sunday we will have the May Crowning. We invite all of our First Communion children to participate. There is a bus trip to the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima on Monday May 13th. The Shrine is in Washington, New Jersey…. The Gospel today has Jesus on the beach sitting by a fire cooking fish. The disciples come ashore. Jesus questions Peter three times if he loves him. Peter an-swers yes. Jesus says to feed his sheep. Peter affirms his love for Jesus standing by this fire. This is in stark contrast to his denial of Jesus standing by the fire in the courtyard of the High Priest. Jesus said to Peter and says to us, “If you love me, feed my sheep.” We have to care for the Lord’s people, for everyone with whom he identifies, for those in Matthew 25 whom He calls the least of his broth-ers and sisters: the hungry, the thirsty, the naked, the imprisoned, and the stranger. We cannot claim to love the Lord and ignore the plight of those around us. Perhaps there is that Teen in school who some have decided is and will remain at the bottom of the social pecking order. Or maybe it’s someone at work or in the neighborhood. “We don’t like her, him,” the in-crowd says, and we are expected to agree. If we love the Lord, then we can’t agree. Instead, we have to befriend the outcast even if this means losing some friends. They aren’t good friends anyway. Nor can we claim to love the Lord and ignore the strangers in our area. We need to work for some solution to the homeless prob-lem. We need to be standing up to hatred and bigot-ry wherever it exists. The victims of hatred are the Lord’s sheep. If we love the Lord, then we need to feed His Sheep.

III DOMINGO DE PASCUA San Juan 21, 1 - 14
