I am certain that the wisdom of the saying was an inspiration to Christ Jesus Himself during His Passion, Death and Resurrection. Knowing that we are held by God within His Heart and never abandoned can enable us to undertake tasks we would just as soon shun; or to endure hardships from which we seek deliverance. May the Tower of Death remind each of us that the Power of Love from the Giver of Life is given to each one of us as an assurance of our adoption as Children of the Light. Peace be with you, Monsignor

Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord:

One of the effects of Covid19 in my personal life has been the time to catch some pro-

grams on the television on Sunday afternoon when I am usually busy with other aspects of

priestly life. There is one such program that airs about 5PM entitled “Canvassing the

World.” It is a documentary from Sean Diediker, a young painter who travels the globe and

creates paintings (sometimes very abstract!) of the places he visits. This past Sunday he

aired from Hiedelberg, Germany.

The program spoke about the Tower of Death in the city of Hiedelberg. It is a memo-

rial of fired clay bricks on which the name of deceased persons are inscribed. They form a

hollow tower around a statue of Lazarus and the sculpture bears the saying “We are all fall-

ing but we are all held.”

I found those words very appropriate for dealing with the present pandemic. For me

the words teach us that we are never alone; God upholds each of us with His abiding Love

and sends Guardian Angels to be with us as a constant companion throughout the travails of

life. I am certain that the wisdom of the saying was an inspiration to Christ Jesus Himself

during His Passion, Death and Resurrection. Knowing that we are held by God within His

Heart and never abandoned can enable us to undertake tasks we would just as soon shun; or

to endure hardships from which we seek deliverance.

May the Tower of Death remind each of us that the Power of Love from the Giver of

Life is given to each one of us as an assurance of our adoption as Children of the Light.

Peace be with you, Monsignor
