Third Session of OEWG on Ageing 2124 August 2012, UN Headquarters, New York Information Note on NGO Accreditation Application for accreditation to the Openended Working Group on Ageing Accreditation is a onetime process by which not previously accredited nongovernmental organizations become eligible to participate as observers in the Openended Working Group on Ageing. Accreditation is granted to organizations and not to individuals. NGOs that have consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) or were accredited before are already accredited to the Openended Working Group on Ageing. All other NGOs wishing to participate in the Third Session MUST apply for accreditation. Applications for accreditation should contain all the following information: a. The purpose of the organization; To work for the cause and care of disadvantaged senior citizens and to improve their quality of life b. Information as to the programmes and activities of the organization in areas relevant to the human rights of older persons; HelpAge India is a national level voluntary organisation working for the cause and care of the disadvantaged elderly across the country for the last 34 years. Currently we are providing services and benefits to over 3,50,000 senior citizens. Major programmes include Sponsor- a-Gran which provides both support to destitute elders and economic opportunities through the formation of Elders Self Help Groups to approximately 57,000 senior citizens; Operation of Mobile Medicare units in 76 locations providing treatments to over a million elders annually and sponsor cataract surgeries for elderly. Information Note on NGO Accreditation

HelpAge India is a founding member of the HelpAge International network.

HelpAge India is working nationwide and has offices in 24 States / Union territories and operates its projects from 86 locations. The organisation raises awareness of older people's concerns in Communities to promote understanding of ageing issues. HelpAge India is actively associated with the Government of India in the formulation of National Policy on Older Persons to secure benefits for older people and make older people aware of their rights and entitlements. We are also a member of the National Council for Older Persons. Mr. Mathew Cherian, Chief Executive, HelpAge India also spoke at UN on elderly rights.
