Thinking About Curriculum
Year 1 Lecture
Winter 2008
IT REQUIRES RICH LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES TO TURN INFORMATION INTO KNOWLEDGE
WHILE IT IS CURRICULUM THAT BRINGS US TOGETHER
CURRICULUM ALONE DOES NOT ENSURE LEARNING
Definitions of Curriculum on the Web• Course of study: an integrated course of
academic studies; • Curriculum is composed of those classes
prescribed or outlined by an institution for completion of a program of study leading to a degree or certificate.
• It is a program of courses to be taken in pursuit of a degree or other objective.
Curriculum as Expressed by the Program of Studies
Alberta's Kindergarten to Grade 12 curriculum is outlined in Programs of Study that identify what students are expected to learn and be able to do in all subjects and grades.
The curriculum is designed to help students achieve their individual potential and create a positive future for themselves, their families and their communities.
