Father of all quotes directly related to POSITIVE THINKING

Take up one idea, make that one idea your life, think of it, let the brain, muscle, nerves, every part of your body be full of that idea and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way great spiritual giants are produced; others are mere talking machines

- Swami Vivekananda.

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

Modern life is full of commitments, competitions, and

commotions. Positive thinking is the key to solve majority

of these problems. How do we achieve positive thinking?

There Are Two Major Ways. Practical Meditation and

Conditioning of one's mind.

Life style gurus will always advice meditation i.e.

relaxation of mind. Most of the meditation advisers

suggest separate venue may it be hall, ground etc, where

mass meditation takes place or even individuals meditate

in an isolated environment. But in modern life taking out

time to fulfil the above criteria is not always possible.

I believe anyone anywhere can meditate and change

his/her thinking into positive energy. It is this energy

which helps life to move on and on. Llittle stress adds

spice to one's life (Healthy Tension).

Such is the power of positive thinking that it can conquer

PREFACE

Page 6: Think Postive - BOOK 1

BE CALM AND FIND WAYS OUTDifferent people will react as above and will solve the situation

differently. As no person is a 100 % look alike, similarly no two

people will accept and act in similar manner to a common

problem / situation

Let me give an example of difference of outcome between

Conventional Meditation and Practical Meditation –

A person attends a session of meditation in a specially designed

hall with others by his/her side. The hall is properly lighted with

a ' SOURCE “where everyone concentrates. The same person

gets back home after the meditation camp and finds that

his/her caretaker has made a mess at home. He/She is filled

with anger and fires the caretaker.

Lesson- What is the use of a person who has lost his cool

against a person, who has conditioned his/her mind by

practical meditation, returns home and see's the caretaker has

made a mess? He/She will calmly asses the situation and would

help the caretaker himself/herself to set the house right.

diseases, enemies and even terrorism! Practical

meditation is nothing but conditioning the mind

positively to any given situation. Both go hand in hand.

THIS BOOK IS DEDICATED TO FRIENDSHIP

A Friend should be your blind supporter, like the majority

of the people of India support the Nehru/Gandhi family.

A Friend should stand by you when the whole world is not

on your side.

A Friend should read your mind and should accept up

your decision as final.

A Friend should always be forgiven for his faults whenever

such situation arises.

You can turn to a friend even in your dreams.

A Friend is always a positive source of energy.

By now you should understand that even the world has

dedicated the first Sunday of the month of August as

WORLD FRIENDSHIP DAY.

PERSONALITY CURVE

To understand the mechanisms of human stress

study the personality curve given below.REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS

When expectations are realistic, life feels more

predictable and therefore more manageable.

REFRAMINGChange the way you look at things.

“There is more than one meaning to the same reality.”

DEEP BREATHINGTake deep slow breath this works physiologically to help

shut off the danger alarm.

MUSCULAR RELAXATIONTensing and relaxing various muscle groups can work

wonders. Combine it with deep breathing by inhaling

while you tense your muscles, then exhale when you

relax the muscles.

VISUALIZATIONImagine you are lying on the beach, boating on a lake or

in a mountain cabin or any natural place of your

fascination. Imagine you are lying on snow, imagine sun

on your skin, salt tang of the ocean (For those who have

not visited PURI beach in Orissa, India, an hour bath in

the waves + sand + sunshine can de-stress you instantly)

HUMOURHumour is a wonderful stress reducer. Share jokes,

proverbs, and sahyari with like minded people ONLY.

SHARE YOUR PROBLEMSShare your problems with someone you trust and has a

positive attitude, otherwise to a third party i.e.

Counsellor or someone from net friends who cannot

access you physically or confession in the confession

box of the church.” A problem shared is a problem

Page 12: Think Postive - BOOK 1

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

The toughest term to explain, many stalwarts, new age

gurus and religious sect leaders have tried their best to

RELAT IONSH IP

Page 13: Think Postive - BOOK 1

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

preach about long lasting relationship, may it be between

– Husband and Wife , Parents and Children, Brothers and

Sisters, Relatives and Friends, Professional relations at

workplace, Teacher and Students etc. But there is always

a broken relationship found in our society. No law, no

principle, no fixed rules apply for a healthy relationship.

Hence this very topic remains a subject of debate.

ONLY POSITIVE THINKING CAN HELP1) Tolerate each other.

2) Don't find faults in others.

3) Any one party has to bend down till you succeed, if you

still get depressed – end the relationship.( every good

thing has to end ).

4) Admitting one's mistake and saying “sorry” will always

help.

5) Expressing your trust, caring nature and love will

always patch up the most difficult situation.

6) Always act by what your mind tells and not your heart.

7) Don't fall prey to someone misguiding you, always

think by yourself and take the final decision.

“RELATIONSHIP CHANGES WITH”

AGEAs one grows older and older the bonds of relationship

weakens. The sentiments are lower and lower, this is a

natural degenerative process of aging and nothing much

can be done about it.

SOCIAL STATUSRelationship changes with rise of social status and in few

exceptional cases one maintains the same relation as

earlier.

FINANCIAL STATUS This is obvious as once the financial status gap widens

there is fissure in the relationship.

MARITAL STATUSBeing single and married changes the structure of

relationships.

RELIGIONGood relationship is often broken on the basis of religion,

5

Darkness can not drive out darknessOnly light can do that. Hate cannot drive

out hate Only love can do that.

- Dr Martin Luther King.

caste and creed and in majority of the cases patch up does

not take place, in fact violence and honour killings are end

of the story.

TIMERelationship changes with time, relationship may be good

but it is time bound i.e. you are needed only during happy

moments or during bad days/sorrowful moments etc.

Sometimes relationships are broken and made up with

fluctuating time.

As described in the introduction – relationship is a

bonding above all, so sometimes in between the relation

(may it be property related, inheritance of business,

political platform, guardianship of minor or love affairs) if

one has to clear his/her stand, don't hesitate to say it clear

and loudly even if you know that it may be a new

beginning or an end of the relationship.

Never regret by not expressing yourself,

better regret after you make your stand clear

Practical Meditation in Relationship - frankly speaking

practical meditation is not known to improve

relationships. But yes, positive prayers do help - Pray for

someone's happiness who you feel is worthy enough to

be your friend, pray for his/her welfare, repeated prayers

are always answered. Don't pray for his/her negativity.

Tips for keeping a healthy relationship- 'Share all

Page 16: Think Postive - BOOK 1

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

Religion can be traced since the Stone Age. It all started

with “ I ”. I follow this. You follow this. “This” is “Mine”.

“This” is 'Yours” Demarcating territories, owning

properties and separating human beings on the basis of

religion is man’s right from stone age. Even our Epics are

based on religion. There has been constant fight to

demarcate and preserve one's own religion/ territory.

Nevertheless religious leaders/ religious politicians are

born and take taking full advantage of the situation on the

basis of caste and creed.

History has repeated this in every era and now world

politics is based on religion. As a result “Terrorism” was

born to avenge and fight to preserve religion and extend

the boundaries of religious territory.

On the other hand history has witnessed good and kind

hearted religious leaders who have laid their lives for the

welfare of humanity.

In religious war the principle is always

“One man's food is other man's poison”History saw religious followers of two types

REL IG ION

11

Page 17: Think Postive - BOOK 1

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

st1 Simple nature following religion faithfully and

self-satisfied.

nd2 Hard core religious fanatics - aggressive ready to lay

down their lives for the sake of religion.

History repeatedly saw intra-religious division and

forming of sects and sub sects, small group of religious

gurus having small sects, few followers etc.

Some religious leaders have changed the lives of these

followers dramatically and have made them recognizable

with due honour in the society (in terms of social and

financial status) history saw that repeated religious

crimes mostly went unpunished when taken on the basis

of mass movement.

Tips to all for a harmonious religious equation

st1 TOLERANCE (POSITIVE THINKING)Tolerance towards each others’ religion is the answer

sttoday for global peace. In the 21 century where man has

conquered the moon we still divide ourselves on the basis

of religion, it is ridiculous. One and all should inculcate the

habit of tolerating other religion, only then global peace

and harmony is possible. Remember the two truths of life

- birth and death. No religion disobeys this truth, hence

the base of all religions is based on this truth. Then why

fight with each other, just because we belong to different

religion? Think very positively and one shall get the

answer from his/her heart and inner voice.

13

Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore.

In death unknown will appear as ever known to me and because I love this life I know I will

love death as well.

Page 18: Think Postive - BOOK 1

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

nd2 CELEBRATE (POSITIVE THINKING)One should celebrate his/her own religious festival and

should try to invite and participate in other's religious

festivals. Remember that all religious festivals are made

keeping some faith and tradition which are the basic of all

religions. Make it a habit to make good friends and

exchange religious festival gifts/traditions you will enjoy

variety and that will add spice to your life. Even in movies,

print media and electronic media we see so many

different types of religious festivals, with an invasion of

electronic media we can even see live telecast of

important religious festivals from across the world.

Teach your children to respect and celebrate each other's

festivals, this seed (faith) which you will sow, will

definitely grow into a tree in future where there will be

religious harmony.

Your pain may give laugh to somebody, but

your laugh should not give pain to anybody

SOUL & GOD

17

Page 20: Think Postive - BOOK 1

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

Always remember that you are a pure soul created by

God. Your body is the medium by which you perform

different roles in the society. Role of son, parent, relative,

friend, your professional role in service, business, politics,

sportsman, etc. Soul is immortal. Try to do good work for

the society and try to maintain good relationship with

each and everyone.

From Womb to Tomb one's soul is always pure, so try to

make use of your body in such a way that your soul always

remains pure.

SOUL & GOD

19

Page 21: Think Postive - BOOK 1

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

There is negative influence all over trying to distract you.

Always take the positive qualities and good habits from

the surrounding souls and reject the bad qualities and

negative attitudes.

GODWho Is He?

– SOME SUPERNATURAL POWER GOVERNING THE

UNIVERSE.

e.g. The head of the family has to see that everything is in

order, from needle to worship chores. Planning and

finance need to be sorted out, all responsibilities and

everyone's personal needs have to be looked after. One

should be very practical, otherwise everything would be

in a mess.

Now imagine who runs the universe?

There are so many things that have to be in order so that

the Universe runs smoothly. Till date there is no answer to

nature's fury. Suddenly nature turns violent and there is

destruction of human life and property. Have you thought

deeply who governs this nature? Nature's law and it's

implication on Universe is a MIRACLE! You have to believe

this, and only then will you understand the superpower

governing us.

God is named differently by different sect and his

followers are classified into different religions. God has

always taught and it is also universally acclaimed that no

one should harm another – mentally or physically. When

this equation is disturbed (mostly by political leaders

attached to a political outfit)- all of us know the end result

– RIOTS.

These political leaders are fanatics no less than their

counterpart i.e. head of terror group. Deep meditation

techniques can change these leaders, and their terror

group head.

Now look at the positive side of this – good political

religious leaders have a good hold on their sect of

followers and they live their life guided by their respective

leaders and the outcome is – good social equation in

making of a good society which is acceptable to all.

21

GOD HAS ALWAYS TAUGHT1) Not to harm each other.

2) Tolerate each other.

3) Accept other's views.

WORKPLACE

Page 24: Think Postive - BOOK 1

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

Someone has rightly described a workplace as a

masterpiece painting.

In one's life one cannot avoid workplace. Blessed are

those who enjoy the sweet fruits of their workplace.

Workplace may be of your employer or your own setup.

Cordial relation with your boss or staff is very very

important; you will enjoy life if the working atmosphere is

vibrant (POSITIVE).

WORKPLACE

YOU ARE THE CREATOR and THE CANVAS IS YOUR LIFE

27

Page 25: Think Postive - BOOK 1

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

One should get positive vibration as soon as he/she enters

the workplace, it can be a factory, office, hospital, call

centre, mall, and trading zones.

PRACTICAL MEDITATION IN WORKPLACE

5 minutes; Start with cleaning your table, cabin etc then a

brief prayer before starting your day.

5 minutes; Take interest in your work. Work is Worship.

Love your work.

5 minutes; Try to think of each and every staff , even your

seniors. Their interactions with you and ways of

improving your relation with them in the days to come.

Finally start your work.

PRINCIPLES OF HEALTHY WORKPLACE1) Keep your workplace neat and clean.

2) Well illuminated.

3) Simple and smoothing decor.

4) What is allowed and what is not allowed in your

workplace – frame your own rules and regulations.

Dictum of extracting best work from your

colleagues if you want something done right, you have to do it

yourself and set an example. (This works wonder)

c) More consumption of alcohol.

Blood alcohol concentration should not be > 0.04 %.

i.e. = 2 Units in one hour.

Alcohol may provoke the desire,

but takes away the performance- William Shakespeare.

MANAGEMENT- de-addiction and medical treatment.

SPECIAL RULES FOR AIRLINES AND SHIPPING CREWS.

1) Alcohol and drugs abuse policy exists.

2) Random checking of belongings while on duty.

3) Check past records and keep tab.

4) Check crew baggage.

5) Educating and counselling the crew about ill

effects of alcohol.

6) Implementation of steps- actually will reduce

accidents.

7) Inter Govt. co-operation for tighter controls.

8) Take help from NGO's.

World's largest consumption product of addiction is

alcohol. Not that all alcoholics abuse it. This is exactly the

1) Alcohol.

2) Online Chatting.

3) Gambling

4) Drugs etc.

Little addiction is good for mental health i.e. addiction to

shopping and gossiping for a while can keep your stress

level low.

In this book only alcoholism will be dealt in detail. One can

tackle other forms of addiction based on Do's and Don'ts

of “Alcohol Addiction”

ALCOHOL ABUSE

ALCOHOL - Ethyl or Methyl.

ABUSE - Misuse/ Problem drinking.

Indefinite Abuse - Score > = 2/4.

1) Blackouts

2) Early morning peg.

3) Binge drinking = > = 5 pegs / day / 10 Days x 3 months.

4) Withdrawal symptoms.

a) Less sleep

point to be considered. Only few abuse it. Try to avoid

company of people whose only aim in life is – ALCOHOL.

Such people can be easily recognized, they will offer you

drink on each and every meeting irrespective of time and

place. Not only avoid such personalities, but also try to

take them to de-addiction centre.

POSITIVE THINKING1) Social drinking is fine, light alcoholic drinks are

welcome in social gatherings and sometimes it is a

custom in social ceremonies to have a toast of wine.

2) Don't drink when you are alone.

3) Don't loose your control and become an addict. On

the contrary one should have full control on alcohol.

4) Never ever argue with someone who is drunk.

5) Never take seriously all the words of a drunkard.

6) Lastly a well conditioned mind knows better when to

touch and when not to touch alcohol.

Life is like playing chess with God.

After your every move, He makes the next move.

Your moves are called CHOICES and

His moves are called CHALLENGES

ANGER

39

Page 31: Think Postive - BOOK 1

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

What is Anger?Outburst of emotions is anger.

Anger plays a vital role in positive thinking. If one can

control his/her anger, he/she has conditioned their mind

A person who is most of the time angry

- TYPE I personality.

A person having cool attitude

- TYPE II personality.

In day to day life little anger is good, one should react to a

certain situation, one who is practical turns the situation

in his/her favour, thus conquering anger. Anger is the root

cause of destruction, nowhere in the history of world

anger has been constructive.

CAUSES OF ANGER1) Ego.

2) To maintain honor.

3) Religious difference.

4) Any kind of dispute.

5) Dislike for someone.

How to control your anger?

ANGER

41

Page 32: Think Postive - BOOK 1

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

Conditioning of one's mind is the key e.g. a quarrel was

going on for few rupees between two gentleman in a

market place , a trader who knew both of them paid the

money from his pocket and settled the matter on the

spot. Timely decision by the trader has averted a disaster.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF ANGRY PERSONALITY

1) Sleeplessness.

2) Rise in blood pressure.

3) Irritable nature in workplace.

4) Shouting.

“Positive Thinking” – conquer anger by

1) Self realization.

2) Practical meditation.

3) Conditioning of mind.

4) Discuss the situation wherever possible with close

friends/counsellor etc.

5) Confession.

A balance of anger and calmness

makes one a responsible citizen

Those who are content with their life and feel

happy in others happiness, great people are

those who feel happy when others are happy.

TRAVEL

45

Page 34: Think Postive - BOOK 1

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

Travel is an integral part of our life. Until one's health

permits one travels. One may travel more, one may travel

less but one cannot avoid travelling.

MODES OF TRAVEL

AIR - short/long distance, domestic/international.

ROAD - walking, cycling, by vehicle motor/animal driven.

TRAIN - local trains to workplace, rapid mass transport,

long distance super fast etc.

WATER - boats, steamers.ships etc.

AIR TRAVEL - Involves expensive ticketing not that

everyone can afford.

Sometimes one has to wait for a long time in an airport

lounge, due to delays, bad weather, heavy fog etc.In such

situation one becomes impatient.

TRAVEL

47

Page 35: Think Postive - BOOK 1

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

IN FLIGHT ONE SHOULD DO1) Deep respiration exercise.

2) Muscle contraction and relaxation exercises, mainly

calf muscles, this will prevent deep vein thrombosis.

START PRACTICAL MEDITATION2 MINUTES

1) Imagine you are the privileged one to get this

opportunity of air travel.

2) Just observe the surroundings.

3) Try to make friends and share their experiences of

delay or any interesting air travel events.

4) If the outside weather is bad – foggy, rains, snowfall etc

feel fortunate that you are safe inside, wait inside till

everything is back to normal.

5) End your meditation by a prayer.

CITY TRAVELMany cities are facing traffic jams and travelling during

peak hours can at times become frustrating.

Travelling by A/C vehicles is comfortable.

“Practical Meditation”

1) Breathing exercises.

2) Visualization.

3) Music.

4) Books/newspaper.

5) Laptops.

Item 1 to 5 can be followed if your vehicle is chauffer

driven.

49

Page 36: Think Postive - BOOK 1

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

2) Pursuing another car because of a provocation or

insult.

3) Getting out of the car and engaging in a verbal dual on

a street or parking lot.

Road rage can turn Deadly(Severe impairment)

1) Getting out of the car and using a weapon (Iron bars,

bat, knives, guns etc)

2) Deliberately bumping or ramming another car in

anger.

3) Trying to run over another car, pedestrian or bicycle

off the road.

IF SELF DRIVEN

Be alert

1) No smoking

2) No alcohol

3) No cell phone

4) No horn honking.

Practice practical meditation

a) Singing softly to oneself or listening to light music.

b) If you are a sports lover – visualize the final deciding

moment.

Road rages can be hostile (Mild impairment)

1) Glaring at another driver to show your disapproval.

2) Speeding past the transgressing car or revving up the

engine as show of protest.

3) Honking or yelling or making visible obscene gesture

at another driver.

Road rage can be Violent (Moderate impairment)

1) Using your car to retaliate by making sudden

threatening manoeures.

ALWAYS AVOID ROAD RAGE

CYCLING

Cycling once in a week through green zones, commonly

called green lungs in London is really relaxing. Individually

or if you have a partner or kids cycling with you, then

nothing can be so enjoyable.

Positive ThinkingOne should know to enjoy nature while travelling, capture

different moods of nature. Nature's creation should be

appreciated, and remember the creator who has created

such beautiful world. This by itself is soul searching and

practical meditation.

The fall (spring) of Michigan is

like an artist's impression.- Dr.Mona Kiran.

Intercity travel to workplace is common in metropolis all

over the world, during peak hours where trains are

packed to it's capacity mainly in South Asian countries

TRAIN TRAVEL

Positive Thinking1) Never get impatient.

2) A good driver should never drive in a sprit of

competition or retaliation.

3) One should always enjoy driving

WALKING

Early in the morning or in the evening, walk individually or

in a group. It is not only relaxing but induces muscles to

contract and relax. Listen to slow music while walking.

ROAD TRAVEL

is left behind, feel positive in whatever you did to avoid a

major confrontation.

LONG DISTANCE TRAIN TRAVEL

It is this travel in which you feel relaxed. Your

co-passengers are also in a relaxing mood. Make friends,

share opinions, jokes, books, newspaper, hot/cold drinks,

play cards etc. One feels oneself to be in a totally different

world. Most of the time co-passengers forget each other

after the journey but there are always exceptions.

SEAFARERS

Seafarers experience on board 'a water to body and body

to water refraction'. This science is under research in

physics. Life of a seafarer on board is tough, but due to

proper off board training they are ready to face any

situation. On board they have responsibilities of proper

sailing as well as maintaining water pollution laws and

other rules and regulations as laid down by IMO.

Bad weather, minor mishaps, siege by pirates all these

adds up to their stress levels and the captain is the one

held responsible. Even when the sailing is smooth it

WATER TRAVEL

where one can just do nothing. In such a situation use

visualization technique for relaxation, muscle stretching

and breathing.

During non-peak hours when crowd is less, one comes

across characters of different nature. e.g. Chewing

tobacco, putting bare feet across front seat, facing

sole/footwear towards one's face, playing loud music on

“Tolerance” is the key in such situations; if sometimes

situation heats up never hesitate to say sorry, after all

causes stress as seafarers are cut off from land by water.

“On board try practical meditation”

1) Daily yoga for 15 minutes.

2) Visualization

3) Read books extensively – reading not only relaxes

oneself, you learn so much you gain so much

knowledge and on board this is the best way to utilize

spare time.

4) If you are a food lover write down recipes which you

can make back home and enjoy with friends and

relatives. Do you know that simple egg omelettes can

be prepared in 300 odd ways?

5) Indoor games can be relaxing

The term ego is often used to mean personal pride and

self-absorption.

EGO

61

Page 42: Think Postive - BOOK 1

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

DON'T1) Don't fall prey to your high egoistic personality in

carrying out a group activity.

2) Don't argue with someone who is egoistic, it will

never help in such situations. The best option is –

SILENCE.

3) Don't mix up ego with anger – it may give destructive

ideas (Negative Thinking).

MORALE

Leave behind ' I ' and see the

DIFFERENCE.

A little bit of ego is essential part of life so as to maintain

his/her own identity in the society. But too much of ego is

always harmful.

Ego can come in the way of our positive creation. One's

high egoistic nature can destroy the work culture in any

institution/workplace.

EGO AND POSITIVE THINKINGEgo has a great role in positive thinking. A person who can

bring down the level of his/her ego can think positively

and achieve wonders in his/her field.

Again conditioning of one's mind can make

himself/herself to control his/her ego to a great extent.

DO'S1) Do accept other's views on the subject of discussion.

2) Do give chances to others to carry out a task in his/her

style of functioning and see the end result.

3) Do bring down your ego in a tricky situation.

LIGHT MUSICSoothens your mind and muscles and give you a relaxed

sleep.

SHOWER Taking a shower after you call it a day, helps you achieve a

smooth sleep.

READING

Reading interesting novels, books on knowledge, books

based on hobby, before you retire is a good habit.

WATCHING T.V. Watching comic movies, plays, comic shows on TV, relax

you and helps in good sleep.

A prayer before you sleep is a must.

When one awakens from a sound sleep one gets all the

positive energies to start a balanced day ahead.

As one cannot dissociate sleep from one's life, similarly

one cannot dissociate DREAM from sleep.

Sleep plays a very important role in POSITIVE THINKING.

To lead a normal life one should sleep for at least 7 to 8

hours.

An uninterrupted sleep makes one healthy and

productive to the society. If you don't know the values of

good sleep go and ask someone suffering from insomnia.

There are many tips for a good sound sleep but the most

important is one should keep his/her mind occupied in

his/her routine work. Idle mind is devil's workshop. Those

who are into constructive activities i.e. they are involved

in creation (and creation is always beneficial to our

society) usually have sound sleep.

FOOD Your food habit plays a positive role in your sleep pattern.

Breakfast should be heavy. Lunch should be filling. Dinner

should be light. Avoid oily and spicy food. Consume lot of

water and liquids. An early and light dinner gives you a

good sleep.

EXERCISES Daily routine exercises be it walking, cycling, swimming

etc. gives you a good sleep.

DREAM

73

Page 48: Think Postive - BOOK 1

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

Good dreams will always keep oneself happy and in high

mood. Bad dreams are unwelcome but we have no

control over them. If we get bad dreams, momentarily we

are depressed. Don't think over and over again of

a bad dream.

Only dreams and no work will not bring out results.

Dream and work hard on your dream, so that you achieve

your aim (goal).

Good or bad don't take any dream seriously. You can

discuss your dream with others, so that you feel light.

Keep your house/workplace/surroundings bright and

lighted. In this way your mind is alert and chances are you

would end up in a positive and good dream.

Dreams are successions of images, ideas, emotions and

sensations occurring involuntarily in the mind during

certain stages of sleep.

The scientific study of dreams is known as ONEIROLOGY.

DREAM AND POSITIVE THINKING.

Dream can be soothing with a happy ending or can be

scary or a sad ending. One cannot decide which dream to

select tonight, it is random- a random reflection of a

person's thought.

No rules apply to the sequence of one's dream, but if one

thinks positively and can feel the efforts to make the

happenings positive- chances are that he/she will have a

POSITIVE DREAM.

As long as human brain is active, we all have dreams. It is a

part of life. Set your goals, plan them and try to execute

them. In this process definitely one will get a dream

related to the goal.

3) Rehabilitation of cancer patients.

One should develop the knack to work for others.

Everyone lives for themselves try to live for others; it gives

a lot of positive feeling!

HEART ATTACK

This article is for general public hence terms used may not

be medical.

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

To lead a healthy life one should always

1) Think positively.

2) Eat healthy foods.

3) Keep a family physician handy, it helps in more than

many ways.

It is said STRESS is the creator of many diseases like

1) Hyperacidity and gastric ulcers.

2) High B.P.

3) Heart problems.

4) Insomnia.

5) Depression.

6) Behavioural changes etc.

To manage STRESS practical meditation is very useful and

vice-versa. Disease like 'CANCER' where the origin is still

not known, where absolute cure is not known- people

suffering, have to face financial and social problem. Only a

POSITIVE THINKING and the urge to live life and helping

others is the key to survive in diseases like cancer.

SOCIAL SERVICEThere is no depth of social services in our society, if one

wishes one can volunteer himself/herself towards the

clot formation in the coronaries.

VERY IMPORTANT

1) Behavioural changes from Type A personality to Type

B personality i.e. anger to cool nature.

2) Meditation / practical meditation.

3) Positive approach to life.

All the above can actually reverse the progression of

atherosclerosis. Medications should be taken whenever

necessary under supervision of doctor.

Heart attack cases are increasing at alarming rate, unless

preventive lifestyle measures are not implemented the

situation may go from bad to worse especially in

Southeast Asia region where the food habits and by

nature narrow coronaries are predominant.

EXERCISE FOR A HEALTHY HEART.1) Walking.

2) Cycling.

3) Swimming.

Walking increases heart rate slowly as you start, as you

walk briskly the heart rate increases, then walking

upslope will again increase your heart rate. The focal issue

Heart Attack is a disease caused due to deposition of

fat/fibrin plaques in the coronary arteries i.e. the blood

vessels supplying the muscle tissue of heart. This disease

is known as Atherosclerosis – in which highly saturated

fats (Cholesterol) gets deposited in the inner walls of the

coronaries which goes on increasing if not detected and

controlled on time.

Within a time frame this deposition (Plaque) bursts and

100% thrombus is formed which blocks the coronaries

causing total blood supply blockage to the distributing

area – This term is 'HEART ATTACK”

Modern line of treatment is

1) Angioplasty or

2) By-pass surgery.

PREVENTIONIt is the best way to lead a healthy heart lifestyle.

1) Detection of dyslipedemia i.e. high levels of

cholesterol in blood.

2) Control of diet – strictly low fat diet.

3) Regular exercises.

All these plus medications can reverse the progression of

sleeping pills. The pain that was excruciating was

reducing. He was now less dependent on pain killers.

Once he became well, he wrote his experience in the

British Medical Journal.

Art Mathias, following an accident damaged three

cervical inter vertebral discs; developed small fibre

neuropathy and was allergic to hundreds of food items

including fibre. He could wear only cotton clothing.

The prognosis was bad and the doctors had to reluctantly

give up on him. One day, he listened to a teaching on

forgiveness and simply decided to forgive those who hurt

him. He suddenly realized from that day he could eat food

items to which he was previously allergic to. Even his skin

rashes decreased. Behind this phenomenal healing was

the major shift that he had made in his thinking

(attitude)”.

is that the heart muscles contract and relax leading to a

For athletes and persons doing cardio in gymnasium it is

done before doing extensive workload so that you know

your 'Capacity'.

CYCLING is best for heart and overall muscle toning.

SWIMMING is best for heart and overall muscle toning

(rule out convulsive disorders before swimming).

I would like to Quote Dr Ajoy Saha, Editor, Bulletin of

Indian Medical Association. “When American journalist,

Norman Cousins became very ill, his doctors, finding the

prognosis poor, had given him up. In this state of illness,

Cousins was convinced that negative emotions have

negative consequences.

He believed that positive emotions will have a positive

impact on his body. So he got hold of Marx Brothers very

humorous movies and began watching them regularly. He

noticed that he was able to sleep more without the aid of

CAREER

Page 55: Think Postive - BOOK 1

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

Career is an integral part of life, everyone dreams of a

career in a magnified form. A lot can be discussed about

CAREER

89

Page 56: Think Postive - BOOK 1

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

One should be aware of this fact and one should know

one's own limitations otherwise one may get depressed –

in such a situation one should be guided about the

parallel opportunities available.

InterestRight from childhood one should motivate one's interest.

The field in which one is genuinely interested in should be

pursued so that one can excel in his / her career.

Sometimes interest develops after actually visualizing /

visiting the faculty. Nowadays internet is available to

create a stimulating effect in the desired field. Someone

may be interested in becoming a global player – in such a

case detailed knowledge of every country / city is

available on the net.

CultureThe family culture is the way one is brought up. The

friends and relatives inter – acting with the family play a

very important role in moulding a child personality.

The child learns from his / her surrounding. Therefore

more positive is the thinking of his / her family members

and peer group, the more are the chances of developing

how to build up one's own career but in this book we will

limit our discussion on positive thinking and achieving

your goals in life.

AimThe foremost aspect of life is aim, then starts the positive

thinking. One should be very much aggressive about the

target in life. He / She will only focus on the target – like

Arjun focused his aim at the eye of the fish during his

“Swayamvar”.

Cut Throat Competition In today's world global completion has created an

atmosphere of cut-throat competition in career making.

about choosing the field and alternate financing.

Bonding

In office or workplace bonding with boss, fellow

colleagues, superiors or juniors is very important.

Developing good rapport with everyone is an art and

bonding plays a vital role.

ReactionIn one's workplace one has to be a balanced individual

and your reaction to a situation is very important.

Overreaction never helps – reacting properly to each and

every situation again is an art.

the positive values in the child, a child learns about his /

her religion, the rituals, chores and the customs. As a

parent one should actively participate with the child in

inculcatating the values of the rituals. This helps the child

to develop a positive attitude towards life and career.

Time – Sharing As a child – parent's involvement and giving more time is

important. As an adolescent – it is the peer group and

friends who plays the most important part in overall

development. As an adult student if one is in hostel or out

of town or out of own country – it is the attachment with

the root, which plays an important role in career making.

ResourceThis is the core of education. In every level of education –

school / college / post graduate training programmes

finance is needed. Scholarships are available for the

desiring students.

Banks are now providing education loans. In higher

studies part time job's along with studies is an option

whenever available.

Lastly career counsellors are always available to guide

Page 58: Think Postive - BOOK 1

Dr. Satyajit Chowdhury POSITIVE THINKING

In conclusion, attitude change, personality development,

interactions with fellow human being and to make the

right decision at the right time will make oneself a near

perfect person.

DECISION MAKINGTime bound decision making is very important in life.

One should follow his/her own religion, all the religious

customs timely so that one can lead a POSITIVE life.

Some very important decisions like marriage, buying

property, starting your professional/business/job career

timely make one perfect.

In any decision making, if one is confused there is no harm

in taking services of a counsellor, group of friends or an

elderly person. But remember like a king take the last step

yourself, knowing that the consequences may be or may

not be in your favour.
