THE DUSK

Plot Summary The figure of a six year old girl, in a pink dress, is seen on the outskirts of a col de sac; twenty years after her death.

FADE IN:INT. THE CHAPEL(An old, small, well-furnished chapel in the night time. Some candles are lit on side of the pews separated by an aisle which leads into the heart of the chapel. It is decorated for Christmas and a nativity scene stands inside the chapel illuminated by candles. We see the faces of the wax work in the nativity, they appear to have wandering eyes and minds of their own. The nativity scene is slightly disturbing. Sounds from outside, owls, night creatures, are heard softly and we hear the organ begin to play apparently on its own. We see the view of the chapel from the upper seating tier. Finally, we return to the centre aisle, which at the back of lies REVERENT PETERS, dead. He lies in a splatter of dark blood and a candle stands next to him. We watch him, motionless, for a few seconds. The outside rain and storm ruptures, causing the candle to blow itself out. The organ stops).

CUT:EXT. OUTSIDE THE CHAPEL (NIGHT)

(A group of kids hustle outside the chapel door).

MILESCome on, give us the bloody key.

(NATHANAEL is reluctant; the key belongs to his Dad. MILES snatches the key).

MILESOh piss off Nathanael!

NATHANAELI dont think its the right key anyway.

CHLOEGeorge, youre too loud. You wait youre going to ruin this.

(Two kids, JACK and EMILY emerge from the side of the chapel).

JACKOi look at this.

CUT:INT. ANGELAS HOUSE(ANGELA sits, in her slightly unkempt dining room, alone. She is in her thirties but makes an unconscious effort to appear younger. She has obliviously prepared a meal for two but continues to eat hers whilst a jazz vinyl record plays in the background. She flickers through her phone whilst eating and doesnt seem too frustrated at eating alone; being, apparently, used to it).

CUT:EXT. THE CHAPEL(The children are now entering the chapel with their cheap torches. HANNAH, smokes her cigarette profusely whilst listening to her music. She is the last to enter. They have entered into the back of the chapel and are in the priests side room which is filled to the brim with clothes, chairs, files, etc).

STUARTWhat does that old fella do with all this shit?

EMILYOi, Hannah shut the window.

(Hannah, slightly bored and frustrated goes to the window which they have entered through).

MILES(To NATHANAEL) Theres your poxy key.

(Some of the kids disperse deeper into the church. HANNAH is in an arm wrestle with the window, which does not want to close. She looks at the thick rain outside the window. A far off lighting snap causes a sudden illumination in the priests room; not scaring Hannah. She has put her cigarette on the side of a book case. Far off, outside the window something gets her attention. She kneels down and looks into the outside field).

CUT:INT. THE VIEW FROM THE WINDOW(Dimly, we see a large stretch of field with tiny trees in the distance. In front of the trees we see a black shadow run across the field. The figure sprints across the stretch).

CUT:INT. THE CHAPEL(The window shuts suddenly with a very loud jolt, causing Hannah some alarm. She returns to her cigarette and is now alone in the room).

HANNAH(Regarding the figure) Poor fucker.

(She leaves the room).

CUT:INT. NANCYS HOUSE(A very old woman, very frail, sits in her rocking chair in the front room of her old fashioned council owned bungalow.
