THIN CLIENT COMPUTING USING ANDROID CLIENT
for XYZ School
Preparing into ICT sustainability
1.Understand the concept of Sustainability in ICT
2.using the Green IT framework developed by ----focus on End user Computing
3.Research and design alternative solution to existing computing solutions
4.look for areas where energy consumption can be reduced
5. design a solution and illustrate energy savings by testing and computations
6. evaluate cost saving mechanisms 7, research on viability and future trends
Preparing into ICT sustainability
ICT sustainability from a business standpointAs the old business maxim says "You can't manage what you can't measure". An effective ICT Strategy in sustainability should clearly identify reduction measures areas as achieving energy savings, reducing carbon emissions, improving recycling effort and conserving water. Choosing the right tools to measure, monitor, manage and
mitigate power consumption and carbon emissions, both inside and outside the ICT department, is
critical in ensuring that Sustainability in ICT projects are successful over time. Only with adequate metrics can
progress be determined. Using the four phases designed by Connection Research may assist us further
Measure: The application of metrics to any aspect of the Green ICT process. A problem with this important first step is that in many cases metrics, or units of measurement, don’t exist. What should be measured, and what are the units?
Monitor: Simply, continuous measurement. The ability to measure any process against itself over time to determine whether it is improving or not.
Manage: Taking the results of the measurement and monitoring process and determining from that data what should be done to improve the process.
• Mitigate: Managing the process is such a way that a permanent improvement is made in the process, which usually means a change to the process.
Energy efficiency as a stepping stone to sustainability 1. Desktop computing management-
turning off dekstops when not needed 2. thin client computing to reduce the
dekstops specification requirements 3. Virtual desktop technology 4. Server virtualization 5. Cloud Computing
Individual Project Strategy Take sample from a working environment and
measure the energy consumption Connect single desktop, switch, printer, modem and
record consumption of every device Replace the desktop with android PC/desktop record the energy consumption test applications calculate, compare and analyse results Source information on availability and cost of solution research on future trends of the solution on the
internet.
