The Hunar Foundation Working Towards a Skilled Pakistan This August 17th, 2014 the first alumni association get-together took place at the DMS Technical Institute in Karachi, where THF alumni were invited for a fun afternoon. The event began with THF Directors and CEO addressing the students and sharing their experiences with the alumni followed by an entertainment session where local artists performed popular numbers and concluded with lunch. The idea was to reward the graduates and provide them grounding where they can streamline themselves for industry related jobs. Alumni feedback was also taken on ways to improve THF curriculum and placement. At the end of the event alumni were handed over the souvenirs. Demise of THF’s patrons, Mr. Munir Ahmed Ansari & Mr. Imran Mir With the deaths of Mr. Munir Ahmed Ansari and Mr. Imran Mir, THF has lost two founder pillars, in October ’14. Mr. Munir Ahmed Ansari, who has helped lay the foundation stones for THF, has been THF’s Technical Advisor since its inception. He has set up all the workshops and established the training programmes at THF. Mr. Imran Mir designed the THF logo, both him and his wife Mrs. Nighat Mir, have been ardent supporters from the organisation’s commencement and mentors for all of THF’s awareness campaigns. Their contribution through their work and guidance to help bring a positive change in Pakistan has been colossal. We pray that Allah accepts and multiplies their good deeds and grants them the highest of ranks in the hereafter. On 12th September, 2014 INSEAD Alumni Association Pakistan initiated a charity cricket match between the London Business School Alumni and the INSEAD NAA cricket team at The Moin Khan Academy. The occasion was sponsored by SAMAA TV where The Hunar Foundation was the official charity partner. THF’s CEO, Mr. Javed Hassan was the captain of the LBS Team. The purpose was to have a reunion of business schools and increase their awareness of THF’s work. DONOR HIGHLIGHTS Farouq Ahmed & Aftab Shamsi Technical Institute (FAASTI), Bedian Road, Lahore We are happy to announce that as of August 2014, training for the the first batch of students commenced at FAAS Technical Institute. Vocations cur- rently offered include Mechanical Fitting, Electrical Installation, Fabrication & Welding and Plumbing. Once complete and fully operational, the institute will have the capacity to accommodate up to 1000 students per year. Najam Vocational Institute for Women, Delhi Colony, Karachi Admissions are in full swing at the THF first women’s institute. The institute is offering three trades in the first stage which include Beauty Therapy, Haircutting Techniques and Hair Colouring Techniques and will be adding more trades in the coming months. Training Program conducted by INJAZ Pakistan Training program was conducted by INJAZ Pakistan at DMS Technical Institute Karachi and HAK Technical Institute Tando Allahyar in August 2014. Participating trainees were awarded with certificates at the end of the training session. INJAZ Pakistan’s experts covered the following topics during the session: Head Start, Personal Economics and Career Success. FARMAN ALI a plumbing graduate from HAKTI completed his course in June 2014 and got the support, guidance and motivation from his instructors at THF and tributes his teachers for all the guid- ance that they have provided him. He now serves as a plumbing supervisor in maintenance department at SST Public School, Rashidabad. PARAS BAHRAM graduated from THF DMS Technical Institute in 2014 and has secured a job as a trainee at Nabsons Pakistan. He cites that The Hunar Foundation has been a key to his success and has offered him expertise in Refri- geration & Air Conditioning repair. British Asian Trust Visits THF Mr. Asif Rangoonwala from The British Asian Trust accompanied by Dr. Abdul Bari, CEO Indus Hospital visits THF DMS Technical. Institute, Karachi. SSGC sponsors students at THF HAK Technical Institute, Tando Allahyar . SKF supports THF DMS Technical Institute, Karachi. Shell Pakistan partners with THF in building an enterprise generation fund for students of HAK Technical Institute, Tando Allahyar.
