    Introduction

    Hi there! This is Wipro Cares Newsletter to brief one

    and all on what Wipro Cares and its volunteers have been

    upto this quarter.

    Wipro Cares functions two dimensionally, one via

    volunteering and the other via employee engagement

    events. Under volunteering, Wipro Cares provides the

    Wiproites and their family members a chance to

    contribute towards various social causes in sectors like

    education, environment, health care and disaster

    rehabilitation and make a difference in several peopleslives. While the employee engagement events are

    another way of giving you all an opportunity to be at

    work and still give back to the community by means of

    drives like blood donation, stationary donation, joy of

    giving etc.

    In this issue, we cover the following locational chapters

    and events as mentioned.

    Bangalore Chapter

    Volunteers initiated a books collection drive for childrenbelonging to the age group of 3-12 years. The idea was to

    collect academically oriented, story-telling, arts andcrafts related books. This drive was carried out atElectronics City and Sarjapur. Volunteers fromMadiwala too joined hands. In all, around 400 bookswere collected and directed to Jeevarathni - anorphanage and Bhumi - an NGO that works withorphanages, slums and village community centres.

    The volunteers had a good time playing with kids at

    Jeevarathni. They guided the children with their homework as well. At Samarthanam an NGO, thevolunteers conducted training programs for the disabledwho were less than 22 years of age. Training includedtopics like team work, assuming responsibilities,leadership, interview skills, structure and working of anIndian IT company, personality development andcomputers etc. At Ashray Seva trust, the volunteers

    spent time with the inmates who wanted to share theirlifes experiences.

    Pondicherry Chapter

    Volunteers visited Sharon Society at Lawspet, an oldage home, at the occasion of Mothers day. The homeprovides shelter to mothers abandoned by their children

    due to old age or illness. The team presented flowers andeatables to the old ladies and made their day special.

    Hyderabad Chapter

    Volunteers joined hands with Aashayein Foundationand participated in two of the NGOs initiatives, namely,Sunday Breakfast serving and Pustaka Abhiyana. Thebreakfast was served at Sathya Sai Seva Sangh atKothaguda, Zilla Mahila Manalula Asharamam atNizampet (both being old age homes) and SpoortiCentre for Urban deprived children at Vidhya Nagar. Anotebooks and stationary drive was also conducted inthe campus and material collected was distributed to 90children at P S Bhuvana School in Kukatpally. The teamalso carried out an Arts and Crafts class for the hearing

    impaired students of Ashray Akruti with Plaster ofParis for the first time.

    Yet another team of volunteers visited Mamatha OldAge Home and touched the old peoples hearts.

    Kolkata Chapter

    Volunteers collected clothes and stationeries forGoonj. They were also a part of an interview panel andsupported Anant Education Initiative to screen and

    select meritorious and financially disadvantaged highschool students. The volunteers also had a picnic withkids at Gioramara Shishu Ananda Ashram, a childhome for the disadvantaged.

    Kotdwar Chapter

    Volunteers visited Amar Shaheed Smriti Viklang AvmNetraheen Sansthan. The team interacted withyoungster pursuing short term courses and trainings tounderstand their expectations and requirements. Theyalso invited these youngsters over to Wipros campus.

    Mumbai Chapter

    Volunteers had a fun session with the 9th standardstudents at Each One Teach One. They took themall through a virtual circus with all funny characters and

    circus master class activities.

    Many volunteers participated in the Back to Schooldrive. Around 30 boxes of useable School Stationary,toys, clothes, books & other necessary items weredonated to Goonj for providing further educationalsupport to children across villages.

    Pune ChapterThe migrant laborers children at the Door StepSchool had an enriching time with our volunteer wherethey had a story telling session followed bya yoga session for keeping the eyes, limbs, abdomen anddigestion system fit and healthy.

    Overseas Chapter - AseanVolunteers visited the Society for the Aged Sick,a residential nursing home. They played table bowlinggame with the elders and helped them during the dinner.The teams visit was overwhelming and madeeveryones day.

    Employee Engagement Events

    Blood donation Drive - This quarter, Wipro Caresorganized a blood donation drive, exclusively for theThalassemia patients, across Wipro at Bangalore,

    Mysore, Chennai, Kochi, Hyderabad, Kolkata,Kotdwar, NCR, Mumbai and Pune. Thalassemia is agenetic disorder where the patient, mostly children,need blood transfusion every 2-3 months. Around 3000Wiproites came forward to inflate life into thesechildren.

    Arts and Crafts Material Collection Drive - At Pune,we had an arts and crafts material collection drive tosupport Door Step Schools (Wipro Cares partnerorganization) driven campaign called Every ChildCounts (ECC). The concept behind ECC is to enrolleach 6-8 year old child into a corporation school in Puneand bring the Right to Education act to life. With yoursupport, we could collect A4 size rough drawing sheets,one side blank sheets, a few new erasers and sharpners,natraj pencils and scales, used crayons and coloring

    books, sketch pens, and a few text books as well. A fewactivities like coloring, paper collage, identifying theshape and group games were also collected. Thecollected material was sent to 10 schools coveringroughly 350 children.
