HOW DO I BECOME
Catholic?COME AND SEE!
Are you interested in becoming Catholic? Do you still need to make your First Communion and/or Confirmation? Do you know anyone who might like to see what joining the Catholic Church is all about?
The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) at Good Shepherd is a process for adults seeking to become fully received into the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, and/or
Confirmation). We have a wonderful team, alongside members of our parish community, who are excited to share in faith with our catechumens (those who have not yet been baptized) and candidates (those who have already been baptized – in the Catholic or another Christian faith). If you are interested in learning more, please contact Holly Tockstein at [email protected]. Thank you!
WE CAN PREPARE THE UPPER ROOMWe all know that person, don’t we? Hey, maybe we’ve even been that person.
“I have a great relationship with God, but I don’t go to church regularly. God and I are on good terms. I can talk to Him just fine on my own.”
There isn’t anything false in these statements. It’s important to have an intimate, even conversational prayer relationship with God. But the problem with this attitude is that it implies that churches don’t matter. Community worship doesn’t matter. Today, we are reminded exactly why that is
so untrue. Why we need our parishes, our priests, and each other.
The Body and Blood of Christ — that’s what it’s all about. If it’s not about that, it’s not about anything. If we don’t have the Eucharist, we’re just like the ancient priests, making sacrifices that don’t have the power to redeem anybody.
Where do we receive the Body and Blood of Christ? For most of us, it’s in our parishes. The altar of sacrifice is also the table we gather in front of, as a family, to become one with Christ in the truest and realest way
possible, recreating the scene in the Upper Room over and over again every time Mass is celebrated.
The disciples were commissioned by Christ to prepare the Upper Room for the Last Supper. How can we take up that work ourselves? How can we strengthen the bonds in our spiritual family? How can we serve our parish, always remembering that the table is not meant to be set only for two?

BLESSING OF THE GRADUATES NEXT WEEKEND
Congratulations to all of
our high school and college
graduates! Your parish family
is truly proud of you for all of
your accomplishments! We
know this has been a very
different and difficult senior
year for many of you. Please
know we have been keeping
you in prayer and continue
to do so. We are happy to
announce that on Sunday,
June 13th, at the 11am Mass,
we will be having a Blessing
of Graduates. All high school
and college graduates and
their families are invited to
attend. Graduates will sit
with their families and are
encouraged to wear their
caps and gowns to Mass. If
you are planning to attend
the Graduation Mass, please
contact Holly Tockstein at
313-928-1324, ext. 115. Please
provide your student’s name,
school from which he or
she graduated, and an email
address or phone number.
(Note: please remember
that all attending must wear
a mask in church). If you
are not able to attend the
Mass, we would still like to
recognize you in the church
bulletin. You are welcome
to email or call with the
aforementioned information.
We are looking forward
to celebrating in faith and
gratitude with all of you!
TEEN FORUM OVER THE SUMMER Our Youth Ministry
Leadership Team is currently
planning to determine how
summer activities will look
for our high school youth this
year. We are also planning to
send information out to our
graduating eighth graders
– you are all welcome and
encouraged to be part of
high school youth ministry
starting this summer! As
to be expected, some of
our usual plans, such as the
summer mission, cannot
happen. So instead we are
looking at creative ways
to keep connected during
the summer months. We
are looking forward to our
summer picnic and kickball
game, possibly a mission
trip at home, and hopefully
Prayer-a-thon . . . but we
will continue to keep you
updated as things open
up even more and new
developments happen. And
we are always open to new
ideas from our beloved teens,
so please feel free to text,
call, or drop by and share
your thoughts! I would love to
hear from you!
Peace, -The Youth Ministry Team
