Name:Travis BarclayProject Name: THE HUBProject Location: Highgate, St. Mary, Jamaica, West IndiesThesis Statement:This thesis project is developed based on the cultural movement of the people living and taking public transportation in the town of Highgate, St. Mary, Jamaica. During the research and analysis section of this thesis, it was discovered that people come to Highgate from other small towns for household items, for school, and for public transportation to other towns and major areas because of this Highgate acts as a hub and has high traffic congestion problems. This project focuses on solving the traffic congestion problem faced by both pedestrians and vehicular circulation. The project addresses other issues such as under development of the town, vendors selling and blocking the sidewalk, and lack of job opportunities. Seeing High-gate acting as a hub the name for this thesis became “THE HUB”THE HUB creates a solution for the problems Highgate faces by creating a new road for public transportation, creating a path for pedestrians which allow them to move freely from the town to THE HUB and back into the town, creating a new transportation center to direct the public transportation out of the town, creating kiosk for the vendors selling along the road and sidewalk, and creates new offices, restaurants and retail areas to help the town to be more developed. The programs and facilities inside THE HUB are based on what the town is short of such as retail areas, banks for small businesses and indi-vidual, and office spaces for starting and continuous businesses. THE HUB also contains three restaurants (Chinese, Indian, mix culture), this is based on the Jamaican Moto “Out Of Many One People.” THE HUB is form based on the fabric of the town, which the buildings has a push and pull effect and is not on a grid. Each program in THE HUB follows this effect push and pull effect and the grid of the building is based on the surrounding buildings.

The country landform can be divided into three different regions: the eastern mountains, the central valleys and plateaus, and the coast-al plains. These eastern mountains are form by a central ridge of metamorphic rock. The east-ern mountains run from northwest to south-east running through the center of the island forming like spine for the island. The highest mountain in Jamaica is the Blue Mountain which is 7402ft. then there is the John Crow Mountains which are range of mountains with the highest point being little over 3750ft and then there is the Dry Harbour Mountains which are also a range of mountains with the highest point being about 2200ft.
