CHAPTER I
A residential are is a land use in which housing predominates, as opposed to
industrial and commercial areas. Housing may vary significantly between, and
through, residential areas. These include single family housing, multiple family
housing such as apartments, duplexes, townhomes (or similar configurations),
condominiums or mobile homes.
In certain residential areas, largely rural, quite large tracts of land may exist which have no services whatsoever. Because a large distance must be traveled to access
the nearest services, most journeys involve using a motor vehicle or some other form of transport. This need has
resulted in Residential land development usually existing or planned infrastructure
such as rail and road.
The pattern of development is usually set forth in the restrictive covenants
contained in the deeds to the properties in the development, but may also result from
or be reinforced by zoning. Restrictive covenants are not easily changed as the
agreement of all property owners (many of whom may not live in the area) may need
to be obtained to effect a change. The area may also be large or small.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This study aims to make a proposed interior environment for St. Ezekiel Homes located
at Eroreco Subdivision, Bacolod City.
Specifically, it aims to provide answers to the identified subject matters.
1. What are the Elements and principles of design that would best suit for the required interior of the St. Ezekiel Homes Building?
2. What are the required areas and utility needed?
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
3. What are the specific design concept that is appropriate in designing the interior environment of the St. Ezekiel Homes Building?
4. What are the types of materials to be used in the construction of St. Ezekiel Homes?
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
It must be remembered that an interior design must not be taken for granted. Its effectiveness could be easily detected through the convenience it offers. Its quality and design call the attention of the people using the space.
• This study will benefit the following individuals:
THE OCCUPANTS– The occupants would greatly benefit from the
proposed project through acquiring residences that will cater to their needs.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
THE YOUNG PEOPLE– young people who wants to live on their
own and be independent often takes a condo or a place that they could call home and the units could cater to their needs as young adults who wants to be independent.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
THE RESEARCHER– This study is important to the researcher
in relation to his/her chosen course, for it challenges him greatly to be able to come up with an effective and ideal solution to the said research. Finally, this study will develop the character of the researcher through the promotion of hard work, dedication and the love of learning.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
OTHER RESEARCHERS– This study could also provide information
for the students who will be conducting related study on the development of residences, and similar fields. This could really help others by providing data and information pertinent to their works.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
THE FUTURE RESEARCHERS– This study will provide useful
information for the future researchers as reference to their conducted proposals for building design and enhancement.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
In conceiving this study, different theories of learning and knowledge have been
used and quoted. The following are the main concepts and constructs upon this
study is based.
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
Eleanor McMillen Brown, in her work
“Sixty Years of Interior Design”
“Sixty Years of Interior Design”
“Contemporary painting and sculpture are happy with furniture of the past. Fabrics
of contemporary colors and textures and suitable and appealing on old
chairs. Old patterns seem excitingly fresh when rejuvenated by a
contemporary palette. Modern Lighting and ventilation enhance otherwise
traditional rooms.”
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
“there is nothing more trite than a period room imposed on a contemporary
setting.”
Van Day Truex, in his work
“The Man who Defined Twentieth- Century Taste”
It’s Principle and Practice” said that “a house is but the normal expression of
one’s intellectual concept of fitness and his aesthetic ideal of what is beautiful.”
Frank A. Parson, in his work
“Interior Decoration : It’s Principle and Practice”
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
John Saldino’s work said that
“the most successful buildings demonstrate harmonious relationships
in scale, whether extremely to their surroundings, or internally to their
occupants.”
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
Albert Hadley, in his work
“The story of America’s Pre eminent Interior Designer”
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
Albert Hadley
“a designer must understand that taste is not a standard but the power to discern, to
concentrate. Taste is an appreciation of order and a sure knowledge of what constitute of fitness.
These concepts can be learned through education, travel, experience, and living. In
learning these principles, the person will come to understand that a room-any-room is simply an
enclosure of space and time for a specific purpose. The challenge is to know what is
suitable in these defined space.
Conceptual Framework
This study envisions to design a residential spaces which achieves modernity, comfort, style, harmony, and balance that meets the
needs and wants of the people who seeks satisfaction. A place where one can see elegance in simplicity that develops a friendly
community that can freely be effective to build a family, a community.
Below is a model paradigm, which sited the processes and shows how this study is being worked out.

RESEARCH DESIGN
The kind of method to be used in this study will be descriptive method of
research. The term descriptive research refers to the type of research question, design, and data analysis that will be
applied to a given topic. (Glass & Hopkins, 1984). It often uses visual aids
such as graphs and charts to aid the reader in understanding the data
distribution.
RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT
The research will be conducted in corner Galvez Road Figueroa St. Bacolod City.
DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE
The following procedures to gather data will be used in this study:
LIBRARY RESEARCHThis includes data gathered from
libraries. The library technique in thecollection of data is a way which the
researcher can employ in order to realize the objectives in the said study. Various materials in the study are used
by the researchers, such as books, magazines, encyclopedias, dictionaries, periodicals and handouts are useful
references to advance the study of the residential housing project.
INTERVIEWSInterviews are particularly useful for
getting the story behind an occupants likes and dislikes. The
main task in interviewing is to understand the meaning of what the
interviewees say. Interviews are among the most challenging and
rewarding forms of measurement. They require a personal sensitivity
and adaptability as well as the ability to stay within the bounds of
the designed protocol.
OBSERVATIONObservation is a complex research method
because it often requires the researcher to play a number of roles and to use a number of
techniques, including her/his five senses, to collect data. In addition, despite the level of
involvement with the study group, the researcher must always remember her/his primary role as a researcher and remain
detached enough to collect and analyze data relevant to the problem under investigation. The purpose of this article is to describe in
some depth the types of roles a researcher can assume during an observational study. In
addition, an overview of some of the characteristics unique to observational
research, as well as validity and reliability and ethical issues, are addressed.
DATA TREATMENTData gathered will be treated using Slovin’s Formula to get the accurate degree of the respondents to be studied.
The formula is as follows:n = number of samples
N = total population
e = margin of error
= 28 respondents
The respondents to be studied must be 28 out of 30 considering the 5% margin of error, for those who give
their views about St. Ezekiel Homes, based on Slovin’s Formula with the
equation above.
This chapter presents the results and the discussion of the data gathered, in
accordance to the response of the subjects during the
survey.
