These basic categories of the enemies of Rome have lead Rome to its eventual decline and added diversity of cultures to their civilizations.

Conflict between Rome and Carthage=one of most influential rivalries for Rome.

Rome and Carthage were full of themselves, resulting in conflict.

They were threatened by each =three Punic Wars.

Success led to expanding land

Rome launched wars all over surrounding areas.

They expanded Rome to Macedonia, Greece, Gual, parts of Asia Minor, etc.

The people had to supply soldiers and pay Roman taxes.

After the Roman Pax Romana, Rome acquired new enemies.

Germanics invaded even more after the Pax Romana

As Empire declined, Germanics invaded completely

Huns also invaded Rome The Visigoths invaded,

overthrowing Rome.

The Punic Wars= 3 wars fought with Rome and Carthage.

In 1st war, Rome defeated Carthage getting Sicily, Corsica, and Sardinia.

The 2nd Punic War was lead by Hannibal. › Army and 100 elephants

traveled Alps. Rome in the end won.

Rome feared Carthage would rise again= the 3rd Punic War.

Rome’s port at Ostia was set on fire.

War fleet destroyed, Two prominent

senators, with their bodyguards and staff, kidnapped.

These basic categories of the past and present enemies of the U.S. may be leading us down the same path as Rome.

The Iraqi war started in 2003. The U.S. thought Iraq had weapons of mass

destruction (WMD). Knowing there were no WMD, they tried to help their

gov’t Some people were not happy about this, so they

started terrorist groups, continuing the war.

The Revolutionary War started in 1775 and ended in 1783.

America fought Britain because they wanted their independence

On September 11th, terrorist from Al Qaeda crashed into the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon.

As a result, we went to war with Al Qaeda in Afghanistan in October of 2001.

Was a terrorist attack.

Similarities between both terrorist attacks

9/11 in U.S. and Ostia attack in Rome are comparable.

Similar because they both had unorganized terrorist groups

Both spread fear across country

Results from these attacks led US and Rome to panic and shifts in government.

Both are stubborn and think they are the best.

As talked about, they have many enemies and rivalries.

Both have had many wars and as for the U.S. maybe even plenty more to come.

Although we are heading that way, we can stop it. America is smart enough to stop the downfall from getting so bad that we won’t be able to get out.
