FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEWS RELEASE August 1, 2016 Contact: Kristen Nomady [email protected] The Russian River Jazz & Blues Festival Celebrates 40 Years September 10 & 11 at Johnson’s Beach in Guerneville, CA Chaka Khan, Jonny Lang, Keb’ Mo’, Brian Culbertson to Headline [Guerneville, CA] – The Russian River Jazz & Blues Festival is celebrating 40 years of bringing worldclass musicians to the picturesque river town of Guerneville, CA. The 2016 event will be held on September 10 & 11 at Johnson’s Beach, and headlining the festival will be 10time GRAMMY Awardwinning vocalist CHAKA KHAN, Blues guitarist JONNY LANG, Americana storyteller KEB’ MO’, the multitalented keyboardist BRIAN CULBERTSON, and the Bay Area’s own percussion legend SHEILA E. Tickets are on sale now. For the last 40 years, music festivals have been a vital part of the Russian River community, and the Russian River Jazz & Blues Festival now ranks amongst the oldest music festivals in North America, alongside groundbreaking events like the Newport Folk Festival and Monterey Jazz Festival. The inaugural festival in 1976 was launched to boost tourism for the Guerneville region and was headlined by jazz great Dizzy Gillespie. The list of past performers includes a who’s who of musical legends B.B. King, George Benson, Buddy Guy, Etta James, and the Count Basie Orchestra – as well as contemporary acts The Doobie Brothers, Gary Clark, Jr., Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Trombone Shorty and Boz Scaggs. Headlining the Jazz Fest on Sat. September 10 is one of the most celebrated musicians of our time, the incomparable CHAKA KHAN. A songwriter, actor, author, philanthropist and entrepreneur, Chaka Khan has the rare ability to sing in seven music genres, and has racked up ten #1 hits on the Billboard charts over a 40 year career. The late Miles Davis often said, "She [Chaka] sings like my horn" and the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin says, "[Chaka] is a one of a kind, premier vocalist." On Sun. September 11 the festival welcomes Blues headliners JONNY LANG and KEB’ MO’. A country farm boy from Fargo, ND, Lang got his start 16 years ago in the clubs of Minneapolis, finding success with his debut album, “Lie To Me.” Lang withstood the early hot spotlight, cultivated a loyal fanbase, launched his own record label, and started a family. KEB’ MO’ is a true American icon, recognized not only as a tremendous Blues and Americana performer, but also as a storyteller, instrumentalist, actor and philanthropist. A threetime GRAMMY Awardwinner, Keb’ has released 11 albums in his 20+ year career and collaborated with a wide range of musical forces, including Bonnie Raitt, The Dixie Chicks, Lyle Lovett, Natalie Cole and B.B. King.
