SHILIN

These amaizing shapes, product of an erosion that lasts thousands of years in the karst terrain, are known as the Stone Forest in Shilin, located in Yunnan province, China.

A notable set of a stone formations with a dark color, that seem to sprout from the ground as needles, resembling an immense forest of stone, which experts say could be over 270 million years old.

THE AURORA BOREALIS

The aurora borealis is a phenomenon in the form of brightness or luminance that appears in the night sky, usually in polar areas, but may occur in other parts of the world for short periods of time.

A polar aurora occurs when a solar mass ejection collides with north and south poles of Earth’s magnetosphere, producing a diffuse light projected predominantly in the Earth’s ionosphere.

SALAR DE UYUNI

Salar de Uyuni, with its 12,000 km ², is the largest salt desert in the world. It is located about 3,650 meters above the sea level in south-western Bolivia (Department of Potosi) in the highlands of Bolivia, on the Cordillera de los Andes.

Because of its large size, high percentage of smooth surface and high reflectivity, when the cover overlying water during low season, the surface of Salar de Uyuni works up to five times better for the calibration of satellites used on the ocean surface.

THE LENÇÓIS MARANHENSES NATIONAL PARK

The Lençóis Maranhenses National Park (Parque Nacional dos Lençóis Maranhenses) is located in the state of Maranhão, in northeastern Brazil, just east of the Baía de São José, between 02 º 19’-02 º 45 ‘S and 42 º 44’-43 º 29 ‘W. It is a low, flat area, covered with large sand dunes.

It covers approximately 1000 square kilometers, and despite the heavy rains, supports almost no vegetation. The park was created on June 2, 1981.

WOOKEY CAVES

Located near the town of Wells, south of the United Kingdom, Wookey caves were formed by the action of the River Axe on limestone hills for thousands of years. The underground stream runs through other caves to model the more accessible caves open to the public. The history of human activity in the caves is dating back thousands of years. In fact, there traces of human occupation from the Iron Age.

OORT

The Oort cloud (also known as Öpik-Oort cloud) is a spherical cloud of hypothetical comets and asteroids (i.e., not directly observed),located within the limits of the Solar system, nearly a light-year from the Sun, and about a quarter of the distance to Proxima Centauri, the nearest star to the Sun.

According to some statistical estimates, the cloud could hold between one and one hundred billion comets, which makes its mass about five times the mass of Earth.

NATRON

At the heart of Tanzania, in the Rift Valley, lays this lake of almost 800 square km and brackish waters, an inhospitable place far from everywhere, a place where only the Maasai and the Flemings are able to extract from its inside the insufficient life it contains.

GUILIN

A human work of enormous dimensions.Although it appears at first sight, a natural phenomenon, the truth is that these numerous slopes around Guilin, were cultivated

centuries ago by farmers themselves.Rice plantations are bathing in the landscape of shapes and colors. From the green, which predominates in time of planting and

growing up, to the brown and white coloring these limestone formations in time of harvesting.

MAMMATUS

A mammoth cloud, mammatus (or mamma ,or “mammatocumulus’) is a meteorological term applied to a pattern of cell bodies piledclouds in its base, developing a cluster or a cumulonimbus cloud. Its color is usually bluish gray, the same as the color of the host cloud, but illuminated directly by the sun. Other clouds can cause a reddish coloration to golden. The mammatus can persist from minutes to hours, fading and disappearing at the time.

TAMBORA

The Tambora volcano is located in Indonesia, on the island of Sumbawa, one of the smaller islands of Probe. This is a strato type volcano with 60 km in diameter, and an altitude of 2,850 meters and a caldera crater with 8 km in diameter and a depth of 1 km, formed during the eruption in 1815.

The eruption has severely affected the climate in the world, registering drops in temperature, intense Snowstorms in locations close to Ecuador and torrential rain at the poles. In the environment, first records were taken in Europe, mainly in London, where the sunsets and sunrises were watched very orange, bearing the colors orange, red, purple and even pink.

RICHAT STRUCTURE

Richat Structure is a unique geographical feature located in the Sahara Desert in Mauritania, which has attracted attention since the earliest space missions because it forms a rare eye door against the monotonous expanse of desert.

From a distance, the overall look is that of a big spiral, like a giant ammonite in the desert. The center of the structure is made up of rocks of Proterozoic to Ordovician age, with carbonates (limestone and dolomite) containing

silica gaps caused by karst dissolution and collapse, and ring dikes intruded by basalt, kimberlite and alkaline volcanic rocks in the Cretaceous.

HALO

A halo is an optical effect caused by ice particles suspended in the troposphere that refract light by a spectrum of colors around the moon or the sun.

The radio usually is 22 degrees, but also tend to be cases of 46 °, generally inward tend to have red colors while out tend to have yellow, green and blue.

Within the halo, the sky seems to be darker than outside. The halos are rings of white or a pale hue that form around the sun.

THE CLIFFS OF MOHER

The Cliffs of Moher (English:Cliffs of Moher ;Gaelic Irish: an Mhothair Aillte; literally: “Cliffs of the ruin”) are on the south-western edge of the Burren area near Doolin , which is located in County Clare, Ireland.

The cliffs rise 120 m above the Atlantic Ocean at a point called Hag’s Head and spread along 8 kilometers to reach a height of 214 m.

THE DANAKIL DESERT

The Danakil Desert, is a geological formation found in Ethiopia. This is considered unique because of its color, also because of the minerals found in the lowland, which is 150 m below sea level.Over time the variation in levels of salinity and high temperatures make it produce color changes depending on the contents of sulfur and other minerals that emit the nearby volcanos , especially Erta Ale.

THE GANGES RIVER DELTA

The Ganges River delta is a delta located on the southern coast of Asia that flows into the Gulf Bengal. With its 105,000 km ², it is the largest delta in the world and the waters flow into the rivers Ganges and Brahmaputra. Administratively, the delta belongs to India and Bangladesh. The delta region is very fertile and there are mainly jute, tea and rice plantations. More than 143 million people live there, despite the risk of floods and cyclones

CAUSEWAY

Is an area of about 40,000 basalt columns, result of the relatively rapid cooling of the lava in a volcanic crater or cauldron, occurred 60 million years ago.The glowing lava in a volcanic vent or the pouring lava can get cold very fast when inside of the volcano cauldron the eruptive activity cease. This fast cooling rises up a formation of basalt, which is a crystalline rock.

THE AMAZON

The Amazon is a vast and mighty stream of water located in South America. Runs through the continent from west to east, all the way from the peaks of the Andes in Peru to the Atlantic coast of Brazil. Its length is about 6,800 kilometers, making it the longest river in the world. This channel holds the record of being the world’s largest river. The Amazon basin is also the largest river basin in the planet’s surface, which supports the Amazonian jungle.
