Special blends of PP such as flame retardant and electro-conductive PP.

Black PP-R: Black pigment is added to the PP which gives it much better UV resistance.

Unpigmented PP-R: Contains no colour additives and can be used for high purity water piping systems. This material is not UV resistant.

PP-H-s: Additives make this PP more fire retardant and increases stiffness making it well suited for ventilation. It is not UV resistant.

PP-R-el: High carbon black content makes, PPR-el conductive as well as UV resistant. Electro-static charges generated by the flow of fluids or dust can develop in thermoplastic piping systems presenting a danger in volotile environements. This conductive material can be grounded.

PP-R-s-el: This PP material has both flame retardant and electrically conductive properties.

Polypropylene is a member of the polyolefin family and is used in a wide variety of applications from acids and alkalies to organic solvents and even pure water. PP is one of the best materials to use for systems exposed to varying pH levels, as many plastics do not handle both acids and bases well. PP is ductile at ambient temperature and demonstrates good impact strength. It also has good thermal stability up to 90oC (194oF) compared to other thermoplastics such as HDPE and PVC. It is not recommended for use with strong oxidizing acids, aromatics and chlorinated hydrocarbons.

Polypropylene is available in two grades: • Homopolymer (PP-H) made from Type I resin conforming to ASTM D 4101, produced from 100% propylene monomer

• Copolymer (PP-R) made from Type II resin produced from 94% propylene with 6% ethylene. Copolymer resins generally exhibit better impact strength.

Polypropylene (PP-R and PP-H) comply with various food regulations (FDA, OENORM B 5014 Part 1, BGA, KTW guidelines).

To enable the use of PE 100 materials in new application areas, research by raw material suppliers has focused in the past few years on a material property that is generally known as "resistance to slow crack growth" or "stress crack resistance". Chem Proline® PE100-RC piping systems are specifically designed to resist the effects of “slow crack growth”. By means of process optimization in raw material production and special copolymerization methods, the raw material suppliers have developed PE 100 materials with outstanding stress crack resistance. These types of materials are known as "PE 100-RC”. PE 100 and PE 100-RC materials have basically identical properties, the main technical advantage of PE 100-RC is the significantly higher resistance to slow crack growth. This is expressed by the requirements for the full notch creep test, which is >8760 hours for PE 100-RC in comparison to 300 hours of regular PE 100 material. Slow crack growth testing is used to indicate useful life of certain chemicals in piping systems. Chem Proline® PE100-RC can be installed right in rough-dug trenches, so no sand and pebble grading is required due to extreme resistance to point loads, which saves on installation time and costs.

PP-RCT is suitable for many applications:• High impact resistance• High abrasion resistance• High pressure load resistance• High insulating and electrical resistance properties

• Low frictional resistance

• Potable water• HVAC-hot water and chilled water

• Food and beverage grade water

• Hydronics• Sports stadiums & arenas• Commercial buildings• Residential buildings• Institutional buildings• Government buildings• Schools and universities• Hospitals• Hotels and apartments

• –20 to 90oC (–4 to 194oF)

PP-RCT is the latest advancement in polypropylene polymers and has a wide range of benefits for commercial plumbing systems. It has a more complex crystalline structure that provides greater pressure capabilities at higher temperatures than conventional PP materials. When utilized in a piping system, these enhanced mechanical properties make it suitable for higher temperature applications such as boiler and hot water systems. They also create lighter and thinner piping while maintaining the necessary system pressure ratings. PP-RCT can also be extruded in a multilayer pipe with fiber core middle layer. This core reduces the impact of thermal expansion on the piping system.

This material also allows larger support spacing, making it easier to replace metal piping without re-engineering a piping system. Our new PP-RCT piping systems fall in line with LEED’s guidelines and are considered environmentally friendly, as well as energy efficient. PP-RCT (polypropylene co-polymer – random crystallinity temperature)material is the latest PP resin development in the polypropylene family.

The resin manufacturing process enhances the crystalline structure of the co-polymer, which enables pipes produced from the material to operate at higher stresses at elevated temperatures. With more than a 50 percent improvement in long-term (50 years) strength over PP-R, PP-RCT piping systems allow designers to choose thinner walled pipes and possibly smaller diameter pipes. Thinner walls mean larger bores providing higher flow rates and greater efficiencies and cost savings.

Dual Containment systems are engineered to protect our eco-system from the dangers of exposed aggressive chemicals. These systems should be specified in areas where there are chemicals transported above work stations, underground or for any other potential safety hazards due to exposure to the media. Dual containment is available in combinations of welded PE100RC, PP, PVDF and ECTFE for containment (outer) pipes and carrier (inner) pipes. This mix and match feature allows system designers to specify pipe material and ratings based on media and pressure changes throughout an entire system. PE, PVC and CPVC unified containment/carrier systems are also available in welded or cemented versions for chemical drainage applications

connection methodsThe connection method depends on the combination of containment versus carrier pipe materials. Welding is used for PE100RC, PP, PVDF and ECTFE, whether on carrier or containment pipe. The particular combination will result in either simultaneous or staggered welding. Cementing is used on PVC and CPVC dual containment systems in the same way as for single piping systems.

system componentsContainment Pipe – Provides leak protectionCarrier Pipe – Transportation of the mediaAnular Space – Area between the carrier and containment pipes where leak detection takes placeLeak Detection System – Sensor and indicator

leak detectionAn important aspect of dual-containment systems is the specification for leak detection, especially in buried systems. Pressurized systems should have automated leak detection wired to shut-off valves in case a leak is detected. Drainage system should have at least a manual leak-detection system in place.

Leak Detection Systems Types:

Manual – Manual operation, locates leaks within a zone, is cost effective and relatively simple engineeringElectronic Low-Point – Automated operation, locates leaks within a zone, is cost effective and relatively simple engineeringContinuous Cable – Precise automated detection for leaks and requires more engineering for installation

Chemline thermoplastic manifolds are fabricated using butt fusion, not hot air hand welding or socket fusion. Saddles are welded by a CNC machine. The resulting product is stronger, more reliable and cost effective. Dimensional tolerances are tighter also.

cnc welding technology offersExact Weld Temperatures, Pressures and Times are Controlled• Better weld quality and resulting reliability

Dimensions are Controlled Exactly• Precise dimensional tolerances for spigot spacing,

orientation and offsets

Welding Parameters are Recorded and Downloadable (heat, pressure, operation times for heat soak, cooling, etc.)• Manufacturing traceability and quality

assurance

Repeatable Manufacturing Process• An identical replacement manifold of the same

quality can be made years later

other featuresPressure Tested• For quality assurance

Unlimited Branch Options• Spigot, threaded, flanged, hosebarbs, ends

for valves, installation adaptors for flow meters, multiple branch rows and different port sizes

Fire Attenuation Sprinkler System

Chemline’s Welder Certification Program qualifies students to weld various plastics using various welding machines in accordance with ASME B31.1, B31.3 and CSA B51. The Welder Certification Program allows students to weld plastics, perform basic visual checks of welds, and understand basic piping layout. Certification documents such as the Fusion Procedure Specification (FPS), Fusing Procedure Qualification Record (PQR), Fusing Machine Operator Qualification Record (FPQ), are used to facilitate the official registration of pressure piping systems with local authorities for total quality control during projects.
