    THERMOCRETE

Light weight, Thermal-Insulating, Expanded Polystyrene bead (EPS) Concrete

DescriptionTHERMOCRETE is site-batched light weight trowel

finished concrete using selective grades of

expanded polystyrene beads (EPS) as thermal-

    insulating aggregates. THERMOCRETE is produced

at site by mixing cement, sand, EPS beads and

    RheoFIT range of admixture.

UsesTHERMOCRETE combines the construction ease of

concrete with the thermal insulation properties of

EPS and can be used for a very wide range ofapplication where lighter loads or thermal insulation

or both are desired. Application includes:

Flat RCC roofs Flat metal decks Green roofs Balconies and terraces Replacement of Brick-bat koba Protection screed over waterproofing membraneAdvantages Light weight (60% lighter then normal concrete) Can be moulded to any shape and slope Water resistant Lower w/c ratio high compressive strengths Thermal Insulating Easy to applyTypical Mix Proportion: 800 1000 kg/m3 MixCement (OPC/PPC/PSC) : 350 450 kg

Specification ClauseThe light-weight, EPS concrete shall be

    THERMOCRETE, a site-batched concrete mix

    containing BASFs STYROPOR

    EPS beads, RheoFIT

range of hyper-plasticiser, ISI marked cement and

zone II sand with compliance to IS: 383. The Mix

proportion shall be as pre-approved by BASF

representative. The mix shall offer maximum thermal

    conductivity of 0.26 W/(m.oK)

Direction for useMix IngredientsSelection of the right quality fine aggregates (sand) is of

utmost importance. The sand must be free of

deleterious materials and also free of fine fractions

such as silt or clay. All the sand used must be passing

4.75 mm screen. EPS beads to be used must be

procured from one of the BASF approved EPS

moulder and shall be of uniform size and grade. Seek

the advice of BASF representative for right grade of

RheoFIT for selected sand and site conditions.

MixingLoad cement, sand dry mix for approx a minute andthen introduce 95% of the gauge water along with

predetermined dose of RheoFIT. Allow to mix to obtain

uniformed slurry. Now load EPS beads while continue

to mix and complete the loading. Once a uniform mix

is obtained with all the beads having uniform coating of

cementitious slurry. If the mix looks harsh or dry add

the balance quantity of water based on the need and

retained the rest of the water and continue to mix for

uniform dispersion of the water in the slurry.

ApplicationSpread and finish THEROMCRETE using trowel. Avoidcompaction using vibrator and lightly-compact using

trowel. Protect the direct exposure from sun by

covering up with plastic sheet or shade to avoid quick

loss of water from the mix.

CuringTHERMOCRETE requires water curing once reached

to initial set. Fog spray is preferred to avoid any

undulation during walking over the fresh placements.
