DATA SHEET TruBio Discovery Automation Platform and HyPerforma G3Lab Controller
TruBio Discovery Automation PlatformResearchers often assert that with rapid tech transfer, the biggest limitations are within the automation itself. Different automation approaches between process development and cGMP commercial production results in added complexity, cost, and time in the transfer from process development to commercial operations.
Thermo Scientific™ TruBio™ Bioprocess Control Software, powered by the DeltaV™ Discovery Distributed Control Platform from Emerson, provides a simplified and affordable solution to meet the needs of research and process development labs while preserving the key features of the DeltaV platform. It delivers a unified experience between controllers when transferring processes through the various stages of drug development.
Key features• Flexibility in calibrations, including analog devices
• User-friendly interface, eliminating the need to learn automation control programming
• Interface provides the ability to display pump and gas flow rate, total volume, set point, outputs, and process value (PV) of all connected sensors
• Ability to define default sensor as primary for process control
• Full record and display of the last vessel process information, including set point
• Option to save and load previously defined vessel process parameters
Key benefits• Transferability of software and speed to scale up
conversions when using TruBio software from research and clinical to commercial production processes
• Ability to integrate the TruBio Discovery software and controllers with existing vessels (including those of third-party suppliers) currently in place
• Enables easy integration of process measurements and data sources powered by DeltaV platform
• Thermo Scientific™ TruLogic™ controller is replaced by the G3 Gateway, thereby reducing the footprint requirements

Design example of TruBio Discovery Automation Platform The TruBio Discovery Software automation bundles can be expanded and custom-configured to meet your specific process needs. Below is an example of a custom configuration that includes a workstation, 2 bioreactor vessels, and 2 Thermo Scientific™ HyPerforma™ G3Lab Controllers.
1. TruBio Discovery workstation (includes monitor, CPU tower, keyboard, and mouse)
2. 3 L HyPerforma Glass Bioreactor
3. 50 L HyPerforma Rocker Bioreactor with BPC
4. HyPerforma G3Lab Controller
5. TruFlow gas mass flow controller (MFC)
6. Ethernet switch
7. G3 Gateway

Note: The example above showcases custom-configured controllers for more than 1 vessel system; a DeltaV Application Station is required for more than 4 systems.
Restrictions and limitations:• DeltaV Discovery and DeltaV platforms cannot coexist on the same network due to licensing limitation from Emerson
• Only for non-GMP applications in non-production environments, per Emerson licensing.
• No audit trail configuration
• No controller redundancy

TruBio Discovery Automation Platform Architecture In addition to scaling up the G3Lab Controller on a single TruBio Discovery Automation Platform, operator station and application station can also be added to increase accessibility and functionality. The diagram below shows a 4 G3Lab confi guration with optional application and operator stations. These G3Lab Controllers can be confi gured to control either HyPerforma Rocker and Glass Bioreactors using the TruBio software.
