Personally, I identify as a Therian (shapeshifting vampire). I consider myself currently an ally of the furry fandom, though I would like to start making my own fur

suit. With that being said, please keep these facts in mind. Many of these sliders come from doing research.

If you are interested in learning more about these different communities, please join social media site

groups involved in these activities (or look them up on your own free time)! I don’t know everything and don’t want to encourage negative stereotypes within any of

these communities.

• Otherkin: A person who believes their soul is not human (humanoid creatures typically fall into their community, non-humanoid creatures typically fall into the therian community)

• Therian: A person who believes their soul is that of an animal’s (if the animal is “mythical” this tends to fall into otherkin as well)

• Furries: A person who dresses in a fur suit, sexual purposes or not depends on the individual

Otherkin

Shape: Heptagram (7 point star)

It has commonly been thought that the number seven is a majikal number, being associated with the seven chakras, the seven levels of

heaven, the seven wonders of the ancient world, the seven visible colors in a rainbow. The number also represents universal balance, and can also symbolize heaven over Earth. For some, the points represent the seven directions: North, South, East, West, Above, Below, Within. The points on the star can also represent the seven majikal elements: Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Life, Light and Majik or Earth, Air, Fire, Water,

Heaven, Earth and Self.

Therian

“Thay-ta-dell-tah”

Shape: Triangle, circle

For therians, the theta-delta is used, T or theta representing therian, and delta representing change or shift

Furry (Furry Fandom)

Shape: Paw Print

Overall the group doesn’t have an “official” symbol, but many people use a paw print to show their furry-pride

Page 7: Therians, Otherkin, Furries

The “Phi Paw” within the furry community has

overall become a rather negative symbol within

the community, used to represent “sexual

activity or sexual material” within the furry

community. Note that there is nothing inheriting

wrong with sex/sexuality, but many people

believe this is the ONLY thing that

The furry community is made up of

Page 8: Therians, Otherkin, Furries

There’s practically a limitless amount of

Otherkin types out there. Some of the most common types being: elf-kin, angel-

kin, demon-kin, vampire-kin, lycan-kin, etc…Typically any humanoid creature can

fall under “otherkin”, while a nonhumanoid creature would be

considered a “therian” type. People who identify as a shapeshifter, their category

typically is an individual’s preference

Page 9: Therians, Otherkin, Furries

Some people claim to be “real” vampires (psy vampires, sanguin vampires, etc…) while others claim to just be

“vampire otherkin”, but might still identify as a psy vampire, sanguin vampire, etc… Basically, this topic is very debatable

within the otherkin, therian, and vampire community itself (sometimes spelled vampyre).

*Personal Warning* Drinking blood DOES have the risk factor of potentially dying, so if you plan to have a donor, PLEASE be safe (make sure blood types are ok with each other, don’t

drink a lot at once, etc…). Human bodies ARE NOT adapted to consuming large amounts of iron (what’s found in blood) at

once like vampire bats are.

Page 10: Therians, Otherkin, Furries

Some Therians believe they fall under the “Otherkin” umbrella while others consider themselves in a

category on their own. Some Therians get offended when you call them “Otherkin”, so please be cautious

with this.

Commission prices vary (if you buy from someone else a pre-made suit). Some people make only parts of suits

while others make full body suits. The price often depends on the level of experience the commissioner has. The most common fur-type within the community

seems to be: dragons, cats, and canine-based creatures. Some of the more rare suits would be anything within the small rodent category (rabbits, rats, sugar gliders, etc…)

Page 12: Therians, Otherkin, Furries
Page 13: Therians, Otherkin, Furries

Some Furries do it for fun, some do it as a coping mechanism, others do it for events,

some for attention, the possibilities are virtually limitless here. Please note that a very small portion of the furry community

actually indulge in sexual activities with their fur suits on.

Page 14: Therians, Otherkin, Furries

This totally depends on the individual. Some therians and otherkin say they experience “shifts” (astral project, “phantom limbs”, etc…) while others might pick up

behavioral traits of their animal (such as a cat therian scratching something to mark something as “theirs”).

Page 15: Therians, Otherkin, Furries

One of the most common words is using the word “mate” for a lover or significant other. Many also

abbreviate shifts (for the otherkin and therian community) such as “P Shift” (physical shifting), “D-

Shifts” (dreaming shifting), etc…

Page 16: Therians, Otherkin, Furries

Many people recommend bringing along a “Handler”, this meaning a

friend/family member/etc… who walks by you and makes sure people don’t try to mis-handle your fur suit or cause you

any kind of negative stress (pulling, tugging, tackling, etc…)

Page 17: Therians, Otherkin, Furries

“Alien Kin” are a very debatable subject within the kin community. Some individuals hold the identity as alien kin, but it is one of the more rare identities.

Page 18: Therians, Otherkin, Furries

“People can choose what religion they choose to follow, therians and otherkins simply can not “choose” what creature

they are” – Anonymous

Therianthropy and otherkin is NOT a religion. The religious views who those who identify as an otherkin, therian, and

furry are different from person to person.

Page 19: Therians, Otherkin, Furries

Many people “discover” themselves whenever they are in their teens or 20s. However, many people feel strongly that someone can not “just become” an

otherkin or therian. It is something the individual feels connected with since a very young age.

Page 20: Therians, Otherkin, Furries

Many individuals within the communities feel there is an overall negative attention towards otherkin,

therian, and furries. Many are reluctant to talk about their identity because of this.

Page 21: Therians, Otherkin, Furries

Yes, it is very common for a therian or otherkin to also identify as a Furry (or vise versa). However, with this being said, the fur

suit may or may not correlate with their therian or otherkin identity (example: someone might identify as a rat therian, but

their fur suit is that of a dragon’s).
