Volume 57 No. 6 May-June 2017 Our 92nd Year
My Brothers in Christ,
There is a saying “Time flies when you’re having a good time…”
I can’t believe that these are the final two months for me as Grand
Knight. That’s not to say I can relax just yet. It is going to be a busy
two months. The hectic pace started with Old Timers Night as we
celebrated 34 members who reached various milestones of service to
the Knights of Columbus and specifically Joseph Barry Council.
These men and many others are what make this council a success.
We had two successful social events in March & April with the St.
Patrick’s Day Dance and the Murder Mystery Dinner.
As you probably know we had a delivery problem with the last
issue of The Discoverer. This adversely affected the election of
directors and officers for the Board of the Kenny Club which should have occurred at the annual meeting in
April. A “Special Meeting” will be held June 6, 2017 following the council meeting at which time the election
of Officers and vacant Director Seats will take place.
By the time you read this issue of The Discoverer we will have had our Memorial Mass (5/2) remembering
those members that have passed away, the Blood Drive (5/4 from 2-8pm) and our Communion Breakfast with
guest speaker Jeffrey Wallick (5/7).
Here’s what is happening in the coming weeks:
Election of Joseph Barry Council Officers (6/6), Hawaiian Night (6/10), Joseph Barry Council Awards
Night (6/20), Villa Roma Golf (6/25-27) and Joseph Barry Golf Outing at Spring Lake Golf Club (7/8)
with dinner and awards the following day (7/9)
Please get involved. Joseph Barry council will be all the better with your input. Come to a meeting and
consider helping on one of the many committees/events we have at Joseph Barry throughout the year.
My sincerest thanks for this opportunity to hold the position of Grand Knight. Thank you to all that made a
suggestion, ran an event or just politely reminded me of something that needed to be done. I will never forget
this past year.
Vivat Jesus

A FUN NIGHT OUT FOR KNIGHTS & COLUMBIETTES FRIENDS

Protecting Widows – A Founding Goal
As a member of this council, you know how important
spouses can be to the charitable works of the Order. If
you’re married, your wife is probably involved in a
few of the many events that happen each fraternal
year. This support adds great value and impact to what
a council can achieve.
When the Order was founded in 1882, Father Michael
J. McGivney and the other brave men were setting out
to protect Catholic families, but especially wives and
children. Today, we remain committed to this mission
by offering insurance products and fraternal benefits
designed with that goal in mind. One specific policy
rider that you may not know about is called Spousal
Waiver of Premium. This rider is unique to the
Knights of Columbus philosophy of helping our
widows.
This rider is available on most permanent and
Discoverer plans purchased at standard rates by a
member and his wife on the same day. When both
spouses apply, the rider provides for waiver of
premiums on the spouse’s contract in the event of
the insured’s death. Best of all, for members and
spouses ages 18 to 60, this waiver can be added for
no charge. The rider stays in effect until the spouse
attains age 65 or certain other triggering events
occur.
Our products are designed with your needs and
budget in mind. With a solid portfolio of life
insurance, long-term care, disability income and
retirement products, the Knights of Columbus can
help you meet all of your financial goals. To learn
more about these solutions, contact me today.
