    Over the past year, Therapeutic Recreation has seen a great deal ofchange and we are looking forward to more positive changes inthe upcoming year. We believe that all of these changes havehelped us provide stronger services for you and other members ofour community.As changes occur, we want to use this front page announcementspace to highlight those changes! Below are highlights from 2009!

    Therapeutic Recreation Enrichment Program will endoperations at the end of December due to low enrollment

    TRACES a day program for adults is available to any adultin the community who has a disability. The program operates5 days per week.

    Therapeutic Recreation Adult Community Enrichment Services (TRACES) a day program for adults and seniors with disabilities

    Activities offered through the TRACES program address a variety of leisureand life skill goals, including but not limited to: improvement of physicalwell-being; enhancement of gross- and fine-motor skills; improvement ofsocial skills; development of creativity and leisure interests; increasedawareness of the community and the environment; and increased confidenceand self-esteem.     Therapeutic Recreation Section Mission Statement:To provide therapeutic recreation services for individuals who have disabilities

    that focus on abilities, rather than disabilities and encourage people to attain

    their highest level of independent leisure functioning by increasing leisure skills,

    improving social and communication skills, increasing independent living skills

    and increasing their awareness of and involvement in community recreational

    activities; to advocate for and ensure inclusive opportunities in all program

    services; to act as advocates for individuals with disabilities by promotingaccessibility at all Department parks, facilities, programs, special events and

    classes.
