Theology Proper: The Doctrine of God, part 1 Wednesday Night, February 8, 2017 God is INCOMPREHENSIBLE. We can never fully understand any single thing about God. We can know something about His attributes, but never exhaustively. Though we cannot understand God fully, we can understand Him TRULY. Why should knowing God be the single greatest pursuit in our lives as Christians? Why is it often not? __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ When we truly know God, the following things will be true: • Routine RELIGION is no longer tolerable • Casual WORSHIP is no longer possible • Total SURRENDER is no longer optional • Global MISSION is no longer negotiable Knowing God is the JOURNEY of a lifetime! The Names of God 1. The names of God provide REVELATION of God. 2. The names of God lead to ADORATION of God. 3. The names of God provide refuge and PROTECTION in God. 4. The names of God symbolize the LOCATION of God’s glory among His people. 5. The names of God demonstrate our IDENTIFICATION with God as His people. 6. The name of God is power for our SALVATION. 7. The name of God is authority for our MISSION. The names of God revealed in Scripture can be categorized as follows: • Proper names • Personal names • Picturesque names
