1. Sign up for the Experiential Learning Co-op Program
• Get the opportunity to complete your co-op in the Welding industry.
• This is an excellent opportunity to ‘test’ out a trade to see if it’s right for you!
• Earn a wage while you learn.
2. Registered OYAP/Co-op • Continue your co-op placement in the Welding
industry AND get registered as an apprentice with the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities (Apprenticeship Branch).
• The hours completed at your co-op placement will count towards the completion of your apprenticeship program.
• Students must achieve trade specific skill levels.
3. Specialized Level 1 OYAP/Co-op • Registered apprentices have the opportunity to
complete the 1st level of the ‘in-school’ portion of your apprenticeship training.
• Receive secondary school credits for the time spent in the cooperative education placement.
• Receive secondary school credits and college credits for the in-school time at college as well.
• Academic requirement for an apprenticeship is Grade 12. • Length of Apprenticeship is 5280 hours (including three
in school components)• Admission requirement for a College program in Electrical
Construction and maintenance are English, Mathematics and Science at the college level.

A Welder is a person who:
• Permanently joins pieces of metal or manufactured parts using metal filler and heat and/or pressure in a construction, manufacturing, or industrial setting.
• Uses three major types of welding: arc, gas, and resistance.
• Builds structures, such as bridges, buildings, industrial plants, ships, pipelines, and oil platforms.
