The potter needs soft clay to make his masterpiece. He needs clay that can be molded and can take

different forms. When the potter sees that the clay is not formed up to his satisfaction, he would rework

and transform it into another shape. The clay undergoes molding, finishing, chasing, spruing, casting,

melting, and refining before it takes form as a sculpture.

Somewhat similar is a student’s life. The more they mellow down, soften themselves and open up for

new opportunities they attain the right shape. iFEEL thus, opens the door to a different world where

students are pruned and refined, attaining a cutting-edge to your personality. The goal at iFEEL is to

transform each participant into a unique person capable and willing to contribute to society,

organization and self development, and the beginning is in the imagination.

About the Program

India’s Gross Domestic Product growth will have a direct positive impact

on Indian Banking Industry and in terms of a study by IBA-FICCI-BCG (Report on

August 2011), it will be third largest in asset size in the world by 2025. But as

rightly stated by Dy. Governor, RBI during a speech, “being largest is not

enough – being efficient is what we have to strive for”. Thus, in keeping with

the projected growth of the Indian economy and rapid liberalization/reform

measures, both the responsibilities as well as opportunities for the Indian

Banking Sector are vast. It is said that people are the assets for any

organizations more so in financial institutions – be it Banks or Insurance

companies. But in reality, all people are ‘not assets’ – ‘right’ people are the

assets. Challenges confronting Banking Industry in the immediate future are

many – capital, liquidity, sustainability of Financial Inclusions, Infrastructure

Financing, Asset Quality, Consolidation to name a few.

With these needs in view, iFEEL is launching this course to develop ‘quality’

bankers through a carefully devised curriculum and exposure to real life

situation.

Why PGDM Banking and Financial Services @ iFEEL?

Banking & Finance sector offers exciting opportunities for management

graduates. Broadly, a banking organization is composed of Retail Banking,

Wholesale Banking and International Banking. These segments are again sub-

divided into various areas like retail liabilities, retail assets, trade finance,

corporate banking, treasury and foreign exchange. Besides, there are support

sections like information and technology, audit and human resources.

Apart from domain areas, today’s financial sector needs talent with quantitative

skills (especially required in the field of risk management and asset-liability

management), communication and leadership. It is only PGDM course that

enables a student to have requisite skill in all these areas. In general in any

PGDM curriculum, specialization is offered in second year and those with

Banking specialization need to go through about minimum 75 hours of

classroom session by career teacher as well as industry practitioners apart from

case studies from National and International Institutes, as also projects on

contemporary banking topics. If the course offered is PGDM in Banking and

Finance in first year too intensive finance session specifically required for

banker is given as well as extensive banking sessions in second year are

conducted. Upon completion of PGDM in Banking and Finance, a student

would not only feel confident as an Entry Level Manager, but would start liking

his job as he/she would find interest in the task.

Modern Banking is significantly different from traditional banking. While one

should learn basic banking seriously which, however, may be taught through

traditional means of training, modern banking needs an innovative mind set,

primarily because of increasing competition and rapid advancement of

technology which is where importance of PGDM comes into play.

A successful PGDM student, task, would easily have in an edge over others

particularly in areas of customer satisfaction, product development, marketing,

risk management, trade finance as also financial inclusion which are today’s

main focus areas in Banking and Finance.

Program Structure

Institute of Future Education Entrepreneurship and Leadership (iFEEL) offered

2 year full time Post Graduate Diploma in Management, BFSI (AICTE approved)

has a trimester pattern. It will engage students in a detailed understanding of

the BFSI Sector so as be able to contribute at the Operational and Strategic

excellence of the industry. The program will include general management

subjects which will provide the students a perspective of businesses and the

subjects related to the BFSI sector will provide in depth understanding of the

BFSI sector and its role in wealth creation for the nation.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP & INNOVATION“rain lab” - reflect, act, innovate and nurture

rainlab was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Sten Ekman; PhD in Innovation Science and

Management from Malardalen University in Sweden and Dr. Analill Ekman,

Department of Education, Uppsala University in Sweden. Both of them are

practicing experts in the area of Innovation led Entrepreneurship.

It was inaugurated in the month of February 2012 during their visit to iFEEL in

India.

Both of them mentor and closely work with iFEEL on Innovation and its

relevance in all spheres of management.

The Objective

The objective of having the rainlab in the vicinity of the campus is not only to

provide the students with a space where they can explore their creative minds

and work on the plethora of ideas that may range from whacky to wonderful

but also to give them a space where they can prototype a service or a product

and implement things and hopefully come out with something sustainable

and scalable. We want to give them an environment which has scientifically

proven to facilitate innovation.

The Benefits

Today, the entire world is talking about innovation and the impact that it can

have on a business. “Facebook” is a classic example of Innovation in social

media. Apple, Google, Tata Nano are all classic examples of businesses soaring

up on strengths of innovation. A one rupee shampoo sachet was a classic

example of marketing innovation.

There were times, when cost of a product determined the sales and ultimately

the profitability of the business. Cheaper the cost, higher was the sales. Then

“Quality” was the differentiator. That is when Japanese companies like Toyota,

Sony, Honda etc became world famous.

Now, when almost all companies are equally competitive in pricing and good

in quality, we believe that “innovation” would be the major differentiation

going forward. Companies will either have to innovate or die. An iFEEL student

would thus be benefitted by being able to adapt to innovation better or

implement innovation in his or her area of work than their counterparts from

other b-schools.

Learning Outcome Expected:

Innovation is not a function of management like Marketing, Finance,

Operations etc. but it is omnipresent in everything we do and thus has a

relation to all the functions of management.

The students are encouraged and guided to work on their ideas and come out

with an innovative process or product and then go the entire process ranging

from ideation to creation to sales to book keeping. The students thus get to

work not only on innovation but also get to learn the different functions of

marketing like Finance, Operations, Marketing etc. They thus get to use the

creative as well as the analytical sides of their brain.

A typical ‘rainlab’ project would make a student learn the process of innovation

by actually having to innovate on a thought or an idea. The project will also give

them an entrepreneurial experience as they would have to make a profitable

business out of their idea. They would thus get the practical experience of the

various functions of management and understand the finer nuances of the

same and the close proximity that the functions have to each other.

The entire experience will take the students on an entrepreneurial curve that

will make them understand the challenges of startup ventures, the

possibilities that are on offer and their true potential as innovators,

entrepreneurs and leaders.

iFEEL is focussed on working in a systematic manner towards developing Entrepreneurial initiatives of students and also encourage people with entrepreneurial spirit

to connect with iFEEL. Our association with the National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) is a step in this direction.

NEN represents India’s largest and most dynamic community of new and future high-growth entrepreneurs, with over 70,000 members in 30 cities. It provides critical

iFEEL students are part of a unique learning experience; the "Global Citizen Leader" (GCL) designed by Leadership Beyond Boundaries

(LBB), a global initiative by the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) ; which is amongst the best educational institution in the world in

US; exclusively focused on democratizing leadership development in association with our mentor institute WeSchool (Welingkar

Institute of Management Development & Research).

The program provides students with leadership and innovation knowledge along with an opportunity to learn and practice skills in a real-life context.

In our country today, while there is fast paced development happening in many areas, there is also an impending need to ensure this growth is more inclusive and

sustainable. Creating a learning experience that brings about transformation in self and surround, so that the students are sensitive to these needs and equip

themselves to address these challenges is an important part of the learning experience at iFEEL.

The combination of what they learn from the management program at iFEEL and the GCL program, we hope, will teach each of our students to learn to take small yet

decisive steps, work with various stakeholders in the community, design simple yet systemic solutions and create a culture of responsibility and ownership. Spread

over a year, the successes of the GCL program will reflect in the positive transformation they will think, connect, act and embody leadership.

As part of this, process, students are working on various opportunity spaces in and around Lonavala and Karla. The process of learning to observe, analyse, identify

opportunities and then possibly offer sustainable solutions is a year long initiative. Some of the opportunity areas the students are exploring currently are:

• Empowering local youth to pursue better careers and/or entrepreneurial initiatives.

• Increasing women’s literacy and education in rural areas.

• Increasing health awareness among local villagers.

• Increasing health standards (WHO) for children in local schools.

• Creating household or business based alternate energy solutions in Karla/ Lonavala

• Increasing access to potable water in local houses.

• Developing improved garbage disposal and sanitation systems in Karla/ Lonavala.

• Improving local economic development through increased tourist engagement.

• Increasing profitability in the agribusiness domain

INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIPS & PLACEMENTS

Dubai

Working with GLOBUZZ in Dubai has given me lots of opportunities to grow

myself. We are a company of few people and I work directly with the owners of

the company, and this has given me opportunity to be part of strategic

decisions that directly affect the company.

Coming out of B-School in this international market had made me think

whether my managerial learning would work here. But I was amazed how my

practical training at iFEEL has made me a fit for any market. Probably that is the

reason why I have been successful in handling retail activations and tourism

road shows in Dubai, Bahrain, Turkey and other markets.

It is strange that having studied Human Resource as my major in PG, I have been

working as a marketer, operations person and handle accounts of my own

projects. I guess this is one of the biggest strength at iFEEL that it prepares you

to be a Leader rather than a Manager of your field.

Chirag Soni

Seimens, Germany

Germany was a memorable experience. Internship with the renowned “Siemens”, that too in their homeland, opened a new

perspective for me. My per-departure preparation with respect learning a new language "German", some basic insights on cultural

and professional behaviour that iFEEL faculty provided me were valuable lessons. The Cross cultural experience as well as the

exposure to the “German Way of Doing Things” was a remarkable lesson, personally and professionally. To sum it up I can say

“Internship with Siemens in Germany is one of the most important chapters of my Life”.
