Prom Promise will be held at SMHS on Friday, April 15. There will be a field trip for juniors and seniors to Ohio University. Take the pledge to not drink and drive. The student council has worked very hard to put together Prom and Prom Promise.

To bring an out of school guest you must get a form from the office and have it filled out by the guest and his/her school principal. The form will then be submitted to our school and be looked over. If the student is seen as unfit to go to our prom or is over the age of 21 they will be denied.

When entering Prom you must be dressed formally! No boots, jeans, t-shirts or anything that isn’t classified as formal. If you question whether or not it is formal then it probably isn’t. It is a rule. You will not be allowed in the Prom venue if you show up out of formal dress.

At Prom there will be small snacks and appetizers. Since everyone goes to dinner before prom, it doesn’t make sense to over do it with food. Prom anyway. There will be fruit, vegetable and cheese trays with minature chicken salad sandwiches. There may also be small snacks like chips and dips.

This year there will be a fee if you have not paid your class dues. If your class dues have been paid, tickets are $20 each and must be purchased prior to the dance. The ticket price covers your admission, food, drinks, t-shirt and goodie bag. If you have not paid your class dues you will be charged an extra $10, making your ticket $30 a piece. This rule also applies if you are taking an underclassman. Prom commitee members will be checking as you buy your ticket to see if your dues are paid up to this year.

Pictures are always a big deal during prom season, but it’s not always the easiest to find a place that takes good pictures for the right price. Lifetouch offers a solution for you. They will take your picture with your date or small group and you can get the picture packet of your choice. Plus, they even offer a prom memory book. This is kind of like a yearbook that exclusively includes prom candids and portraits. Every couple or group that gets their pictures taken will be featured in the book with a wallet-sized photo. Prom is something that you won’t want to forget, so why not make the memories last with professional pictures and a memory book from Lifetouch?

Prom night Necessities

What to bring to make prom night worry-free...

Comfortable pair of shoes, you can either put them in your car or take them in with you. You’re gonna be on your feet most of the time. Have comfortable shoes on.

Prom night can be very cha-otic, so you want to be sure that you have everything that you need to enjoy your spe-cial night. You never know

when you might need to re-touch your make up or blot a stain. Being overly prepared is always the best choice. It might be wise to bring

a small clutch, or a small handbag to carry anything you might need to make it through the evening. You can find a prom-appropri-

ate bag at stores like claire’s and Belk. Here is a list of a few of the things that you should consider bringing with you on prom night.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: DEODARANT! No one wants to be out on the dance floor smelling it up. Bring your deoder-ant. Tip- Apply at least

four times

Bandaids: Just be-cause you should never go anywhere without bandaids.

Hairbush: Just in case your hair gets crazy while you’re dancing. You’ll have a brush for backpack.

Bobbypins: Make sure you have extra boobypins, at all times. These will make you feel reliefed. If you lose one, or one falls out,

Gum, Make sure you always have gum. Just to make sure when you talk good smells come out.

Touch up makeup, just to be safe bring your touch up makeup incase you get sweaty and it comes off. So you’ll have makeup for any mess ups.

Extra change of clothes, Make sure to bring an extra change of clothes. Just in case you go somewhere after. Surley, you don’t want to wear you dress for too long.

Extra money, always be prepared by having some extra money, for food or anything. Don’t forget to have some extra cash wih you.

Stain remover, not many people think of it as a necesite for prom. IT IS! Having stain remover with you would be so releaving just to know if you got punch or chocolate on your beautiful, expensive dress, you can get it off right away!

Preparing for prom can be exciting, but it can also turn to dread with a snap of the fingers. Prom-goers should be able to enjoy a fun night free of stress. In order to make this possible, planning is essential. Planning will help take the weight off your shoulders making sure that you and your date or group of friends have a great evening. You should always make sure that you have a place to take pictures and eat dinner at before the dance begins. Also, take time to figure out after-prom activites. It is never too early to begin preparing for prom, in fact it is much easier to plan in advance

because often times places are booked for these events. You can begin preparing for prom months in advance but often times we find ourselves waiting until last minute. Always make sure to write down hair, tanning, nail and other appointments so you do not forget. Whether you put them in the calendar in your phone or a planner is up to you. Remember that prom is meant to be a night to make memories. Do not fret if one minor detail in your plan goes wrong, don’t ruin your night. Remember to make a plan, have fun, stay safe, and be confident. On e Mon th Be fore Prom

Buying tickets is the most important thing to do before prom, or you won’t get in. Tickets are sold everyday during junior/senior lunch at the table nearest the middle staircase. They are $30 per person. This year, if you have paid your class dues they are sold for a discounted price of $20.

Dress shopping does not have to be done exactly a month before prom. In fact, buying a dress should be done a few months in advance in case of alterations or before stores have been raided by other prom attendees. Looking online at dress can help give you an idea of what you may want to try on or buy.

This one is pretty self-explanatory. If you don’t have a date, start searching for one. Don’t be afraid to ask someone, it could workout in your favor. If you happen to get turned down don’t let it get to you, some people just may not want to go. If you want to go all out, “prompose” to someone. The ideas are endless.

Guys, start looking for tuxes. Take a color swatch from your date’s dress with you and someone to give you advice. There are several places to find one locally and pg. 14 of this prom issue of The Argus can help you out with locating them. Don’t be afraid to be bold and wear something unusual, but make sure your date is okay with it.

Look through your makeup if you plan to do your own. If so you should complete a trial run to see what you think looks best and what does not. Same thing goes for hair. If you plan to do your own hair or have someone else do it, go through a trial run to make sure you like the finished product.

Finalize your after-prom plans. Talk to your friends or date about what you plan to do. A lot of times prom-goers catch a late movie or go bowling. Make sure to talk to your parents as well to see if it is okay with them to do whatever you may choose. The possibilities are endless, just make sure to stay safe.

If you plan to do your own nails try to find a color that matches or corresponds with your dress. Don’t necessarily paint them a week before prom incase of smudging and chipping but you could do a couple trial runs. Also, there are several nail salons in the area that you could go to if you don’t want to do them.

Gentlemen, your tuxes should be able to be picked up from the place of rental. Be sure to try it on in case you may need last minute alterations. If you’d like, show your date a picture to see what they think. Make sure to check and see that your tie or bowtie matches your date’s dress. Better safe than sorry!

Double-check with your date and friends and finalize a destination for pictures. Since prom is in Vienna, you may want to find a place near by. Point Park in Parkersburg is a nice destination for pictures. There are also many places in Pleasants County, great for pictures such as The Greenhouse, the Powell residence, etc.

Making appointments should be done ASAP! Prom causes a lot of businesses to become booked up so take the initiative and make them before time slots fill up. Whether it be hair, tanning or nail appoinments, it’s better to make them sooner rather than later.

Da Vinci’s Restaurant is a small Italian restaurant in Williamstown They serve items such as pizza, pasta and salads. Their menu prices vary from $10 to $22 per entree. DaVinci’s also has a patio for outdoor dining on the small waterfront they have. They do

accept reservations, so if you are planning on eating at DaVinci’s make a reservation, so that you are

guaranteed a time and aren’t late to prom.

As a locally-owned option, Spagna’s will not disappoint on prom night. They are open from

4-10pm.

This mouth-watering family-owned restaurant boasts amazing flavor. Jimmy Columbo’s offers reservations,

so you won’t be late to prom. They are open from 4 pm to 9:30 pm.

Olive Garden is in Parkersburg. They are open from 11am to 11pm.

For a great fusion asian menu and fun entertainment, Fusion Japanese Steakhouse would be the way to go.

They offer Hibachi, fresh sushi, and a fusion Asian menu. They take reservations and are open from 11:30 am to 11

pm.

When preparing for prom, a big decision includes where to dine. Many individuals plan on eating at a restaurant near the venue of the dance, yet many people choose a particular restaurant for a variety of reasons. Eating out often is the simplest choice for those that have the money to do so. Since the venue this year is in Parkersburg, the options are endless as to which restaurants to enjoy. There are also different price ranges to consider in your decision. Places such as Olive Garden and DaVinci’s are elegant and popular on prom night. Try to find a place that many wouldn’t think of such as Red Lobster, Los Agaves, or Ruby Tuesday. If you happen to be on a budget, shop around online for a

coupon. You are sure to find an excellent dining location that fits your price range. If you know that going to a sit down eatery isn’t for you, consider going to a fastfood spot, or make a home cooked meal. Have a family member cook your favorite meal and set the dinner table to your liking. The great aspect of enjoying dinner at home is that you can make all the decisions. Invite friends over and dine at your leisure. An option that some choose is to wait until they arrive at prom. This year’s prom will be catered by the Parkersburg Country Club and will offer a variety of food. Snacking as the night rolls on is a comfortable option considering that the food is already paid for.

Memorable Ways to have Prom Dinner at Home

1. If weather permits, have a picnic with your prom group. Take a camera with you and get casual pictures.

2. Have a parent or sibling make your favorite homemade dish. This allows you to relax and enjoy

your meal before heading to the venue.3. If you are attending prom with your significant other

have a candle lit dinner at home. This option would allow the two of you to spend some time alone before

mingling with your friends.

Steak Houses

Casual DiningOutback Steakhouse

Western Sizzlin’-

Texas Roadhouse-

Buffalo Wild Wings

Cheddar’s

Red Lobster-

Outback Steakhouse has a variety of foods to choose from. If you are a messy person I would steer clear of anything

really messy like ribs, steak sauce and lobster tail. Yes, you need to enjoy dinner, but not remember it all night while its stained on your dress or tux. Outback does not have

reservations per se but they do have call ahead seating which will limit the wait time for prom goers. If you are looking for a moderately priced restaurant, I would recommend Outback Steakhouse for prom dinner. It is a great atmosphere for you

and your date or a group of friends to enjoy a nice meal.

This Australian themed restaurant offers great food at a reasonable price.

Located in the traffic circle, you will find tasty meals and great service. Texas Roadhouse is a wonderful restaurant that has many delicious options to choose from. Texas Roadhouse has a terrific atmosphere and plenty of seating. There are many inexpensive

choices on the menu. If you’re concerned about messy food, there are many mess-free items to choose from. The food at Texas

Roadhouse is based on western type foods, so if you don’t like western type food, then I wouldn’t recommend going there.

All in all, this is a fantastic place to eat. There’s a variety of foods to choose from and the pricing isn’t too expensive. Going in a little early might be a good idea, as they’re always busy and

sometimes the wait is a little longer than most restaurants. No matter what food type you prefer, Cheddar’s has something for

you.

Buffalo Wild Wings has a lot to offer, from burgers, to wings, to sandwiches, salads and more! They provide large screen TV’s for

your entertainment. They are open 11 am - 2 am.

Red Lobster would be a great place to eat for prom. If you are a seafood eater and you really like it, then I suggest you go to Red Lobster. It tastes wonderful. They bring out their cheddar biscuits to start you out before your meal gets there. They have a variety of seafood choices, but if your prom date doesn’t like seafood,

then they also have chicken and steak that they can order instead. I would suggest if you choose to eat there, bring a bib because

sometimes it can be very messy depending on what you get there. I usually spill a few things on myself while I eat. If you choose a

place to eat, then choose Red Lobster because it’s the BEST!

This is the one stop-shop that serves as a guide to helping you pick a restaurant in the right price range for you.

Prom Edition

Prom is one of the most memorable moments during high school. Prom is a time to dance, laugh and enjoy a spectacular evening with friends. Keeping all this mind in, being safe on prom night is the number one priority, yes it can be a fun evening but nothing is worht losing your own life on the life of someone else over. Doing somehting “just once” can still

led to many life changing events to occur whether it be a serious injury/accident or other serious issue. Prom should be a fun, enjoyabel time so just remember to be safe and protect yourself and others and be wise with the choices you make. We are all human and are not invinvible. Prom should be a night to remember for all the positive things not the negative.

We’ve all seen the commercials about first responders not being able to locate someone if they are calling from a cell

phone. So to avoid this the following are phone numbers for local first responders:

Parkersburg Police Department: (304) 424-8444Parkersburg Fire Department: (304) 424-8470St. Marys Police Department: (304) 684-7101

Pleasants County 911: (304) 684-0911

Numbers To Remember

Driving

Sex

This year’s venue for prom is the Nemesis Shrine Center and in order to get there one will have to take the interstate. No matter if traveling on an interstate or regular two lane road, always take it seriously and be safe. There are multiple distractions a driver can be faced with from loud music,

passengers and distraction outside of the vehicle as well. While driving, make sure to be aware of your surroundings like what exit to take and which lane to be in. Driving can be a fun experience especially with all your friends however you have your life and the lives of others to look out

for. All in all, be sure to be safe both driving to and from the venue, especially since many will have to drive on the interstate at night. Also if you need to contact someone while you are driving have one of your passengers do it for you that way you can keep your eyes and focus on the road.

Prom should be a night to remember because you had an amazing time not because you became a parent! Do not let anyone pressure you into thinking you owe them. Something such as that should be saved for later on in life especially after you are married. Abstinence is bliss, and besides it’s not worth your whole life being changed for a few minutes of pleasure. If someone’s intentions are

primarily to get involved in sexual activity they are more than likely not the kind of person you want to be hanging out around anyway. You have your whole life ahead of you do not try to rush into it and put yourself in a tough situation. Also look out for your friends if they are getting uncomfortable with a situation then find somewhere else to go. Keep the night classy and keep all attire on.

After Prom AAAAAAAAAA It is common for students to have some sort of activity planned after prom. Whether it be going out to the movies or hanging out with friends , there are multiple things one can do after the prom festivities have ended. Students sometimes go to other parties after prom has ended, parties however have their risk just as anything else mentioned on this page. During parties students could be pressured into drinking alcohol or using some other substance, bothshould be avoided at all cost. Students are not older enough to drink anyway so getting caught can end up in some serious consequences. Also drinking can cause more negative affects than thought: not remembering what you did, having a hangover, becoming vulnerable to everyone around you, all risk one has to take inconsideration. A few other things students shoudl

keep inconsiderationare not set your drink down while at a party, you dont know what someone may try to put in your drink. If you have any doubts about what may happen at a party always have a designated driver its better to be prepared than try something life threatening. As an addded step of protection have everyone give thier keys to the designated driver or put them all in one secure location. Finally, not matter what you do be careful trvaeling it will be late by the time prom ends so make sure you at least check in with your parents and let them know what you are doing and where you are going before you start to go anywhere. Just a call or text should do the job just so they will know what you are doing and will not text or call you the whole night wondering where you are.

For years, prom has been known to be one of the biggest moments of a person’s high school career. Both guys and gals tend to have the time of their lives. It is believed that proms have been held as early as the late 1800s. Of

course, these proms had the traditional king and queen. Now it is time to find the perfect outfit for prom.

The mermaid dress is a perfect match for prom

or any formal event. This dress usually consists of

tight fabric around the body and a flowing or fluffy part starting either mid thigh or

right below the knee.

The two-piece dress is well-worn for a homecoming, prom or another formal event. Or it can even be

worn for a night. This dress is a good choice but you have to pick out a pair of

heels that match.

The ball gown is a great choice for an extremely

formal event. This dress is perfect for a girl who wants to feel like a princess for a day. A suggestion is to find

a pair of easy to walk in heels because you may get

tripped up easy.

This is any dress with glitter or sequins. This

dress is also perfect for a night on the town or any formal event. There are

many choices to this dress and it is a must to find the

correct shoes for this outfit.

This dress is perfect for any semi-formal to formal event. Some could go for either a

classy or plain look. Getting this dress for prom is a good

way to make it your own. Remember with long dresses

it’s best to wear heels.

Short dresses are cute for homecoming, prom or a formal event. People can also wear them during the summer or a place where it

is warm out. For shoes, girls tend to wear either heels or

flats.

We all want to be the one who truly stands out at prom especially if it’s with their date. We’d probably stand out too, if it wasn’t for the fact, we have no clue how to do it. There are numerous ways to stand out, like doing your hair different,

learning to the new hip dance move (which changes a lot), making your dress something special, pimping your ride or even doing a group theme to prom. Prom will be a memory held forever in your heart, (good or bad) you’ll never forget it. Make it

as memorable as you can; make yourself stand out.

Learn a new dance crave. The Dab might be a good dance to learn and if you figure out that you can’t

dab, you can always hit the Quan. Don’t forget you can always use YouTube

to teach you how to do the latest dance moves.

Create a themed outfit with your prom date. There are many ways you can do this, or if you’re alone then consider making your dress based off a tv show character or maybe a

movie. It might be interesting to dress to the prom theme.

One of the best and easiest ways to stand out at prom is how you decide to do your hair.

Don’t hold back. Most people will have their hair curled, up in some braid/bun or maybe

both. Although, find somewhere cheap because getting your hair done isn’t always

cheap.

How

Do You Plan To

Stand Out A

t Prom?

One of the most common and well-known ways to stand out this year is to pimp your ride. Not only

will you arrive in fashion, your date/friends will be incredibly impressed. You can always make your

car look cooler or rent a limo. I’d try to avoid your parents dropping you off.

Add accessories; you can never go wrong with

accessories. Men, you can add a bowtie or just a plain

tie. Girls you can add so many things like; earrings,

necklaces, bows and bracelets. Your shoes matter too, so choose wisely when it comes to your footwear;

however, it is fair to note that most girls lose their shoes

before the end of the night!

Erica TurnerReporter It’s that time of year again, and to be perfectly honest, your date

probably cares way more about what you wear than you do, but most would agree that looking nice always increases your odds of

having an action packed night.

Be sure to at least get a picture of your date’s outfit before purchasing a tux. Going together

usually eliminates the probability of major complications. Selecting matching apparel allows

you and your date to look and feel closer as a couple, but if you’re completely lost, go with

black.

The primary physical difference between a tuxedo and a suit is the presence of

satin. Traditionally tuxedos have satin facing on the lapels, buttons, pocket trim, and a satin side stripe down the leg of the

trousers.

You’re like most guys so… you’re going alone. Turns out your friends are too. Well, might as well squad up! There’s millions of ways you can go with this. Just check social media. Make

sure everyone in your crew matches for the picture. If someone forgets or doesn’t want to participate, politely kick them in the

shins.

Ties are much more commonly worn than bow ties. The benefit of wearing a tie as

a groom is that there are many colors and patterns that will not only accent a suit, but will also go along with the wedding colors. Another benefit of wearing a tie is that they are great for a more hearty body type, as it

elongates the grooms figure.

Bow ties not only represent sophistication, but they are also aesthetically pleasing for

grooms. They are smaller which brings more attention to the face and less to the chest like

a regular tie would. A tuxedo and bow tie are very formal, so they should be reserved and worn to events that are extra special.
