Chapter 21• The First World War occurred
as Germany seeks more power
• Treaty of Versailles which ended the war in 1919.
• The Great War had engraved many changes, for example, the Ottoman authorities massacred or deported about 1 million Armenians. And put a final end to a declining Ottoman empire.
• The First World War put the United States as a global power
Chapter 21• After the war comes the
Great Depression. With many cycles of “boom and bust, expansion and recession”
• Unemployment soared• In the US, Roosevelt’s New
Deal was an experiment to reform and skeet to restart economic growth.
Chapter 21• Democracy was denied in
some countries, and fascism was used instead
• Fascism- is intensely nationalistic, seeking to purify the nation and mobilize its people for some grand task.
• In Spain, the rise of a fascist movement led to a civil war.

• In the US, communist parties were called McCarthyism

Chinese Revolutions found their vision of the good society in a modernizing future, not the visions of the past.
• They’re made by organized parties guided by Marxist ideology (communist) and they wanted to abolish private property.
• They acted on behalf of society’s lower classes-exploited urban workers and impoverished rural peasants.
