JFK SCHOOL ASSOCIATION QUIZ NIGHT – FRIDAY 12TH JULY

For their first stand-alone fundraising event, the newly-resurrected JFK School Association is hosting a quiz night on Friday 12th July.

This event is open to everyone and anyone - after all, who doesn’t love a quiz night?

Get a group together to make up a team (maximum 8 people per team)

Tickets cost £8.00 per person and are available online via Eventbrite (search for JFKSA on www.eventbrite.co.uk). You can buy individual tickets, you don’t need to purchase for your whole team at once.

This is a BYO event - bring your own food and drink with you for the evening (we’re not quite ready to start cooking and serving yet!) but do remember to bring plenty of £s for buying Raffle tickets and joining in with Heads or Tails. That’s all you need to do for now; you don’t need to submit team names / details in advance, we will do all that admin stuff on the night.

LITERACY

July’s Book of the Month - The Book of Dust Volume 1 –

La Belle Sauvage by Philip Pullman Miss Bullen recommends this book to all students from Year 7 upwards be-cause: Pullman’s trilogy ‘His Dark Materials’ was immensely successful when it was first published in the 1990s, and this new trilogy set in the same world has been equally as well received. It’s a world where people’s souls are personified as animals, and which might seem like ours, but is governed by magic rather than science. Pullman has promised that Volume 2: The Secret Commonwealth, will be published this year, even though he’s busy collaborating on the forthcoming TV adaptation of the original trilogy. It’s a chunky book, which makes it the per-fect summer read.

July’s Poem of the Month - Checking Out Me History by John Agard
