Who’s Who?

If you completed the Theme Challenge Activity and chosea family photograph to describe, use that photograph. Ifnot, choose a photograph of people and imagine they are afamily. Look up family tree in an encyclopedia. Make a listof family words. Write a name for each person. Decide howthe people are related. Draw a family tree. Write the nameof each person on the tree.

Who’s Who? Clues

Prepare a game to play with aclassmate. Make a clue list aboutyour imaginary family tree. Writetwo clues for each person on thetree. Copy your family tree on aseparate sheet of paper, but donot write any names on it.

Play Who’s Who?

Give the empty family tree to a classmate. Tell him or herto listen to your clues and write names on the tree. Readthe first clue on your list. Wait for your classmate to writeon the tree. If your classmate can’t figure out a clue, givehim or her the second clue about that person. Check to seeif he or she matched your clues with your imaginary family.

1. Weather News

Weather Words

Think about the different kindsof weather that happen duringdifferent seasons. Fill in fourword webs, one for each season—summer, autumn, winter, and spring. Choose one word fromeach web. Think of a symbol for each word. Write the wordnext to its symbol. This will be your key.

How’s the Weather?

Prepare a weather report about your weather. Use chartpaper to make a weather chart. Draw lines to make sevencolumns. Label the columns with the days of the week. Findtoday in your chart. Draw a weather symbol for the weathertoday. Think of the weather before today. Draw symbols onthose days.

Predict the weather for the rest of the week. Drawsymbols. Draw your key at the bottom of your chart toexplain your symbols.

Share What You Know

Pretend you are a meteorologist. A meteorologist is aperson who tells about the weather on the news. Practicesaying your weather report aloud. Use a ruler or pointer topoint to days and symbols on your chart as you speak. Giveyour weather report to a small group of children.
