THE{FULL}LIFE

February 2015

According to Executive Director Leanne Gugenheimer, construction of the new building continues, and in spite of the frigid weather, good progress continues to be made. “It is exciting to see the building starting to take shape,” says Leanne.

All of the reinforcing steel has been installed, and the first-floor slab has been poured. Steel framing for the entire building is nearly complete, and all first-floor walls have been installed. The second-floor pan deck is finished, and work is under way to place reinforcing steel for the second-floor concrete deck.

Once completed, the expansion will offer a new service on the first floor that is designed specifically for people living with Alzheimer’s disease or other age-related dementia illnesses. Thirty-two private studios with ensuites will be available.

“All suites will be private and not affiliated with Alberta Health Services,” Leanne says, adding that all will include around-the-clock staffing. “Residents will also have access to amenities in The Grande and the Full Life Wellness & Life Enrichment Program™”.

The new three-story building also will include 19 suites offering independent living and 20 suites of assisted living services.

Construction continues in the new year

The relationship between physical activity and vitality is well documented; however, there is increasing research supporting the positive effects of social interaction on maintaining physical health and a sharp mind. There are numerous ways to stay socially connected such as volunteering, joining clubs and groups, attending church, taking classes, and learning new skills.

We recently posed the following question to Touchmark residents: How has your life been enriched since moving to Touchmark? For those living at Touchmark, the top five responses are likely not surprising: 67% have more friendships; 60% socialize more; 52% worry less; 49% exercise more; and 44% have better nutrition.
