Thecus® N4810 received “Best Features” award from TweakTown, AU

“Thecus' N4810 NAS is leaking features from every seam. ”

01/10/2017 – Trusted providers of tech content for North American readers and around

the world, TweakTown has looked at many of Thecus’ storage solutions with

the N2810 being reviewed earlier this year. This time Tweaktown decided to put the

newly released N4810 under their microscope.

ThecusOS 7

“This solution first and foremost runs on the latest ThecusOS 7 with an updated user

interface that now adds in photo station along with a renovated app center […] OS 7 has

upped the game for Thecus regarding features. The big one for me is the performance.”

Connectivity

“Moving on, this is the first NAS to my knowledge to take advantage of DisplayPort, offering full 4K media

playback directly from the NAS. Thecus has done remarkably well with this unit with its external connectivity,

but they also thought of the internals as well giving this solution the full treatment with the base model having

4GB of memory paired with the rather popular Intel Braswell N3160 SoC. ”

The Bottom Line

“Thecus' N4810 NAS is leaking features from every seam including DP, USB-C, and Dual Gbe Ethernet. Adding

to this is the price making this a competitive solution and certainly worth looking at if you need those features. ”

Thanks to Tyler at Tweaktown for this review.

Thecus® W2810PRO reviewed by Neowin.net, US

“If you're looking to manage a Windows server in your environment, I can safely say that the

W2810PRO delivers”

01/12/2016 – Neowin.net reaches a deep community of IT professionals, extreme

tech enthusiasts and a hardcore gaming community by providing technology

industry news with added emphasis on software. This month they reviewed

Thecus Windows 2-bay NAS, the W2810PRO.

“What's unique among NAS devices is that the W2810PRO has an

embedded 60GB SSD drive that holds the operating system. This lets

you replace all of your drives at once without having to worry about

reinstalling the base OS and reconfiguring the device. It also means the

NAS device boots up extremely quickly. The base install of Storage

Server 2012 R2 Essentials takes up about half of the space, leaving you

plenty of extra disk capacity.”

Easy Configuration

There isn't much to talk about when it comes to configuration. “If you can do it on Windows Server, you can do

it on the Thecus W2810PRO. That's great when it comes to flexibility as you're not locked into whatever

configurations that the operating system provides you like you are with the competition.”

Data Deduplication

“By setting up deduplication, the operating system examines files and ensures that it only keeps one copy of a

file. For an individual user, this isn't too big of a deal, but if you're in a small workgroup, it saves space if ten

people each download the same install file.” Depending on the different types of data, use of data deduplication

can allow businesses to save from 20-80% of their storage space.

Set up Client Restore Service

A key differentiator between the Thecus W2810PRO and a typical appliance NAS is that, because it's running

Windows, it can be used to backup your Windows and Mac clients using the "Set up Client Restore Service"

feature. If your laptop hard drive were to fail, for example, you'd be able to purchase a new one (equal or greater

in size) and restore the system back to where it was at the time of the last backup.

“If you're a Windows admin (or want to learn more about Windows Server), and want the flexibility of being

able to run whatever Windows applications you want on your server without the limitations of an appliance, the

Thecus W2810PRO is a worthy contender for your attention.”

Thanks to the Chris Write at Neowin for this review.

Thecus® N7770-10G receives editorial praise by PCADV, TW

The N7770-10G delivers Uninterrupted Accessibility with HA

Taipei, Taiwan - January 17, 2017 - PCADV is a well-known IT media in Taiwan,

providing up-to-date tech information to its many loyal readers with both its magazine

and electronic format. This week the editor decided to test the Thecus N7770-10G,

here is what he had to say.

Hardware

The N7770-10G comes equipped with the Intel Core-i3 2120 3.3GHz processor, 8GB ECC

memory, and a 10G network card, all enabling this NAS fast and stable data transmission

efficiency. For the best price/performance ratio, this NAS is compatible with the largest

capacity of SATA hard drives on the market, plus iSCSI thin-provisioning that provides

fast transfer speeds with the ability to reduce wasted disk space. Seven different modes of

Link Aggregation are also available, including load balancing and failover that deliver high

performance and transmission stability.

HA (High Availability)

The N7770-10G supports HA functionality. Running two NAS side by side, HA keeps both up to date and ready

to run any and all data functions. These NAS clones automatically synchronize their content through a

“Heartbeat connection”.

If one NAS has an issue, the passive NAS will take over the reins and ensure continuous data service. "Not

familiar with the HA environment, users may be worried about the need for complex network knowledge to be

able to build this setup and the need for special network equipment. However, if the reader can install NAS to the

network, then there is no need for special network equipment, existing hardware can be used. You will still need

several network lines, and groups of RJ45 network ports available.”

In Summary

“If you want a NAS that is capable of standard storage, file sharing, that supports high availability and 10GbE

capability and that has both good performance and security, then this NAS should be highly considered.”

“A SERIOUS NAS FOR POWER NETWORKERS”

01/24/2017. PC & Tech Authority is a leading Australian magazine focused on providing

the latest news to the IT world, it also has developed a substantial online presence over the

years. This time around they looked at one of Thecus’ Window Storage Servers for small

and medium businesses, the W4810.

Microsoft Architecture

Based on the Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 Essentials, the WSSE software includes

many unique Windows Server features including Data Deduplication, Windows AD, high

availability and scalability with Failover clustering and Storage spaces. It also provides seamless integration

with Microsoft cloud services Office365 and Microsoft Azure. “There’s full cloud access, and some of the best

backup and file duplication tools around at this price point.”

Hardware

The W4810 is powered by Intel’s Celeron N3160 CPU and has been paired with 4GB of DDR3 memory. “This

quad-cored chip consumes a tiny 6W TDP, even though it has a burst frequency of 2.24GHz. […] and like the

earlier W5810 also has an embedded SSD drive. It’s 60GB in size, and works as a cache to speed up file access

to regularly used files, similar to the way hybrid mechanical/SSD drives work.”

Additional Functionality

“However, it’s the DisplayPort, HDMI and optical output connections that

will make this NAS noteworthy for media fiends. Not only does it mean

typical network administrators can log directly into the machine, it can also

double up as a media box under your TV.”

“There’s also a handy app for smartphones that allows remote control while

you’re out of the office or home, while the Launchpad application allows

remote PCs access to the basics without compromising security features.”

“Orbweb functionality means you can also set up a remote desktop view of

files, media playback (up to 1080p) and even webcam monitoring.”

Value for money

For small and medium sized businesses who have pre-existing Windows environments, this Windows Storage

Server can be an ideal fit. “Maximum capacity is 40TB, more than enough for most mid-sized businesses

[…] power users and small business owners will find that it delivers a feature-set that usually costs considerably

more.”

We would to thank Bennett Ring and the whole team at PC & Tech Authority for the award.

than 15 seconds to reboot the system, allowing the various users minimal downtime.”

Speaking about WSS 2012 R2, this is the perfect solution for those (private user, or small business) who are

already working under a Windows environment. “This is neither more nor less than the server version of

Windows 8. The OS Windows Server 2012 R2 looks very much like Windows 8, however it has network-

oriented tools that can be complicated to configure when used by of an uninitiated user. Nevertheless the

commonality with Windows 8 will allow the users to access this WSS like a simple computer."

Tests and results

Zeden tested the W4810 was tested for 3 parameters, all important if you are intending to use the device as a

multimedia solution; Electric consumption, as the device will be made to work 24/7; speed in reading / writing

Thecus® W2810PRO running on Windows Storage Server undergoes various

tests by iXBT, RU

“Thecus Technology Corp. is one of the very few storage solutions manufacturers that offer not

only Linux based NAS but NAS working on Windows Storage Server as well.”

02/09/2017 –iXBT – one of the leading media in the Russian industry of

information technology. It provides a sophisticated platform for professional

information sharing. Not long ago the IXBT team reviewed the

Thecus W4000+, this time they had a look at the W2810PRO. “Thecus is one

of the very few storage solutions manufacturers that offer not only Linux

based NAS but NAS working on Windows Storage Server as well.”

Platform

The W2810PRO is a two-bay NAS, built on quad-core Intel Braswell CPU, powerful enough to support an

effective operation of Windows Storage Server software, and equipped with 4GB RAM, built-in SSD for OS

storage, two Gigabit ports and three USB 3.0 ports. The package includes a license for 50 users or devices,

Active Directory service support, Azure and Office 365 cloud services, as well as secured remote access. “If we

compare this NAS with popular models on the market, from the hardware platform point of view we can

conclude it is modern and fast.”

Software

“The key feature of this NAS is its operation on Windows Storage Server 2012

R2 Essentials. This solution supports the majority of the server technologies

offered by Microsoft, including Azure, Data Deduplication, BitLocker and

Storage Spaces, and can take a role of an Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and

WINS server. We would like to emphasize the license which is offered in the

package and cover 50 users, what is more than enough for the majority of the

scenarios.”

“Thus, the W2810PRO will be a very good solution mostly for those who are interested in working with

Microsoft software (and has an appropriate experience in that) for support of the small offices or

integration into the bigger infrastructure. To purchase this NAS and then change the software is

technically possible but for us this kind of idea looks quite strange, as Microsoft Windows Server itself is

quite expensive and has already been calculated by Thecus into the price of this unit.”

Conclusions

“The W2810PRO is actually a compact x86-PC unit, which in addition can accommodate two 3.5″ HDDs.

The heart of its modern hardware platform is a quad-core Intel SoC. (…) The chassis external design is

quite standard for this kind of NAS, however, it supports HDD “hot swap” and some noise reduction

solutions.”

We would like to thank Alexander Vorobiev and the whole IXBT team for cooperation.

almost never are saturated.

The N2810 runs on the latest ThecusOS 7.0, offering an intuitive user interface,

including features such as Photo Station, User Profile and the Thecus App Centre.

“The App center (a kind of App Store where you can download various 'forms'

to expand the functionality of NAS) has quick links to multiple modules. “

“Some would be very useful for Apple users, features such as iTunes server and

TimeMachine are already present, others include Plex (to play streaming media

content), Transmission (Torrent client), OwnCloud (system for managing files)

and even antivirus (McAfee - Intel Security).”

“Another strength is the ability to program various actions, such as auto power-off, which is very practical in the

house if you want to avoid the noise of mechanical discs overnight.”

Throughout the article, Italiamac highlighted the various applications that can be accessed in the N2810, paying

special attention to its multimedia functionality. Italiamac finished by stating that “the N2810 is a good NAS for

both the home and for the office.”

Thecus® W4810 receives “Best Value” Award from Simply Reviews, UK

“The W4810 a great choice if data protection is a top priority”

02/16/2017 – Simply Reviews in their own words, are committed to wading through the

vast marketing jungle, cutting through all the hype, ads, and sleek commercials to bring

back the truth about any product and service for the masses! Recently they reviewed

Thecus’ 4-bay Window Storage Server, the W4810.

“This 4-bay appliance comes pre-loaded with Windows Storage Server 2012 R2

Essentials (WSSE R2) and targets small businesses that want an all-in-one server

that’s big on data protection.”

It remedies the shortcomings of the older W4000 model which struggled with an

underpowered Atom CPU and meagre 2GB of memory. “The W4810 has a superior

quad-core 1.6GHz Intel Celeron N3160 CPU and a decent 4GB of DDR3 memory.”

Unlike the Workgroup and Standard versions, Essentials functions as a full Active

Directory (AD) primary domain controller (PDC). Licensed for 50 users/devices, it teams

up NAS and IP SAN services with Microsoft’s Storage Spaces, thin provisioning,

integral deduplication and automated client backup.

“The W4810 has a sharp focus on backup and recovery.” You can create jobs for selected files and folders or

complete systems and decide how long to keep daily, weekly and monthly backups. “WSSE R2 uses a daily

backup window for all jobs and once a full backup is completed, subsequent ones are much faster as it

uses VSS snapshots and block level deduplication.”

VERDICT

“For an appliance that functions as a full AD domain controller, the W4810 is reasonably priced. It’s easy

enough to use as with WSS 2012 R2 Essentials at the helm, anyone familiar with Microsoft’s standard

server OSes will feel right at home […] the automated client backup features and slick bare metal

recovery services makes the W4810 a great choice if data protection is a top priority.”

PROS

• Good Value

• Functioned as a full Windows AD PDC

• Automated client backup tools

• Slick bare metal recovery services

publications in the world, and recently, they tested the Thecus® N4810. In their review, they

examined the N4810 from every conceivable angle. The results didn’t disappoint with high

praise given to the NAS’ performance, high quality features and value for money.

“A powerful Intel Hardware was thoroughly impressed with its performance, numerous 1.6GHz

Celeron N3160 processor serves as the heart of the Thecus N4810. The processor delivers an

instant 2.24GHz speed burst when asked, but it quickly drops back down to a lower power state to conserve

energy.”

“The system has a small footprint and many plastic parts. The looks are deceiving, though. The Intel Celeron

N3160 system-on-chip (SoC) processor is as powerful as an Intel Core2 Duo E6700, but it uses one-tenth the

power and packs on-die video capabilities, too.”

“The Thecus N4810 ships with the new ThecusOS 7.0 operating system that delivers an exorbitant software

feature set in an easy-to-initialize and use environment […] Your NAS can become a database server, a powerful

central point for a video surveillance system, a Dropbox repository, or even a DHCP server. The list is

impressive; Thecus left no stone unturned.”

“With all the competition in the $500 NAS market, Thecus managed to thread the needle with this product. The

N4810 delivers either more or higher quality features at an aggressive price point. The Thecus N4810 is the

system to buy if you want the best bang for your buck.”

VERDICT

“At its current price point, the Thecus N4810 is unmatched in features and quality. This is a system you can build

up over the years by adding more drives as needed. You can buy the system for your current needs and then

discover an unknown world of capabilities that one day you will not want to live without.”

Thecus® N5810PRO reviewed by Macitynet, IT

“The N5810PRO is undoubtedly the ideal companion for many offices.”

03/07/2017 – Macity has been bringing the latest tech news and

reviews to their Italian audience for the last 20 years. Last year

they reviewed the N2810, this time round they looked at Thecus’

flagship 5-bay NAS, the N5810PRO.

Running on the latest Thecus OS 7.0, the N5810PRO offers a large suite of capabilities. “The Thecus OS 7

operating system is very simple, flexible and powerful. The management is minimalist but full of every option,

including the App store offering all the important software.”

Embedded with five Ethernet ports, the N5810PRO reaches blazing throughput

speeds of up to 500 MB/s. The N5810PRO supports seven modes of link

aggregation including fault tolerance for resilience and port-trunking modes for

increased performance.

Another interesting aspect of this NAS concerns the power supply; the N5810PRO

accommodates a contingency power supply. “A small integrated UPS is included

that keeps the NAS alive in case of power failure: the battery can be recharged

with normal use and only activates automatically when needed due to power loss

before returning to recharge when the power is restored.”

The final thoughts of the N5810PRO were resoundingly positive. “The N5810PRO is undoubtedly the ideal

companion for many offices, unique in the marketplace with a strong dedication to redundancy.”

Pro :

• Redundant in every aspect

• High flexibility in RAID management

• A display for offline activities

• Battery for integrated emergency

Thecus® N2810PLUS awarded by Chip.de, DE

"Versatile NAS" claims the verdict of "Good"

04/12/2017 – The German magazine Chip has been testing new hardware and

software for many years and publishes articles online and in its monthly print

magazine. After the test of the first N2810 last year, the expanded and

optimized Thecus N2810PLUS was also examined.

Compared to the N2810 which is embedded with the Intel Celeron N3050 and 2

GB of RAM, the N2810PLUS has twice as much memory and twice as many

processor cores with the same power consumption of the CPU. The N2810PLUS

therefore offers significantly higher efficiency and performance, meeting all the

important requirements of a modern NAS: fast data transfer and a secure storage

solution for data protection and access. This NAS extends the possibilities for use

in the office as well as at home and in multimedia operation.

Chip.de has recognized these three characteristics as key advantages for the N2810PLUS:

- Two LAN interfaces

- EXT4 / XFS / BTRF support

- HDMI output

Overall, the conclusion was very positive. "With a total score of 88.7 points, the NAS Thecus N2810PLUS is

on a good level. In the performance, equipment, functionality and performance recording categories, the

laboratory results show above-average ratings. "

Thecus® N8880U-10G tested by LANline, DE

"Powerful NAS rack system for SMBs"

04/18/2017- LANline has been reporting both in its monthly print magazine and

online on topics for professional networking, IT and infrastructure professionals

for many years. Recently, they extensively examined the Thecus N8880U-

10G Rackmount NAS for small and medium businesses (SMBs).

In the introduction, the magazine already points out the high transfer rates. The Thecus N8880U-10G, which can

hold up to eight SATA drives "is equipped with a 10GBase-T network card, thus achieving very high

throughput rates.” This was proven by the subsequent practical test. “Copying from the local SSD of the

Hyper-V host to the RAID-5 iSCSI LUN of the NAS system achieved transmission rates from 5.2 to 5.4

Gbit/s in the 10-Gbit/s network. In the opposite direction the NAS system even achieved 5.6 to 7.0 Gbit/s.

For a RAID-5 array of six enterprise SATA hard drives, these are indeed very good transmission

rates. From the Hyper-V SSD to the SSD iSCSI LUN, we achieved speeds from 5.7 to 6.5 Gbit/s and in the

opposite direction 6.4 to 7.1 Gbit/s."

Also, data security is handily taken care of. "To test the RAID function, we removed a hard drive from the

array after we had just launched a larger copy job. The copying process went on without any noticeable

interruption. The NAS system automatically added the hot spare drive to the RAID-5 array and started

rebuilding."

And so the bottom line is also very positive. "The Thecus NAS N8880U-

10G can be put into operation quickly. It supports popular file-service

protocols and can be used as iSCSI storage. [...] With the additional

10GBase-T card, the system achieves excellent transmission values. [...]

With the clear and easy-to-use management interface even less

experienced administrators should cope well. The Dutch Hotline of

Thecus offers German language support. At a price point of about

1,700 euros (without drives) the N8880U-10G is an affordable

investment.”

Our thanks go to Christoph Lange from LANline for this test!

Thecus® W2810PRO reviewed by Level 1 Techs, USA

“It's a full Windows machine basically in a box.”

04/27/2017 – At the start of this year Wendell and the team at Level 1 Techs reviewed

the W2810PRO, but in doing so also covered information concerning SMB multi-channel

and how to best to set this up with this Thecus Windows NAS that runs on Windows Storage

Server Essentials R2. It is a detailed and informative video that is well worth watching.

“This is a device that has 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a Quad-Core Celeron N3160 CPU but it's running Windows

Storage Server 2012 R2. This is designed to go into a windows network but it is mac compatible. You can do

time machine backups, if nothing else you can mount a sparse image on SMB share and back up to time machine

that way. It's a full Windows machine basically in a box.”

“Windows storage server 2012 features data deduplication, storage, spaces file history support, NTFS, online

scan and repair, windows client integration via Launchpad. Native NTFS support FAT32, EFS and ReFS”.

ReFS is a technology from Microsoft that detects file corruption. “If you use Raid 1, a simple two drive Raid 1,

ReFS will work to correct corruption. It can tell which drive has the corrupt data and then will use the correct

copy automatically. It will detect and repair. So if you are in small business environment with network storage

and are hedging your bets against bit rot in a Windows environment with RAID 1, ReFS is really the safest

option.”

Some features are only available on Windows, with no equivalents in the open source world. “If your

organization uses office 365 in the cloud this has better integration, it

also has integration with Azure Active Directory. If you are using local

active directory, you can use that with this just fine too.”

“It's a pretty easy pretty basic setup, if you just read the screens and

next your way through it. I would be surprised if you encounter a

problem.”

“Now this does also include your Windows Server 2012 Essentials license, just to be clear about that. There's no

client access licenses or anything like that, this is recommended for up to 50 devices although with a busy

Network 50 deviceswould really be pushing it . You probably want to get one of the higher-end models to handle

that.” For higher-end models look at the W4810or W5810.

“Now one thing I want you to listen to is the lack of noise. I mean even though I put two spinning mechanical

hard drives in this thing, you can't really hear this. It's a very very quiet machine. […] It's whisper quiet. If this

were in a living room, you'd be hard-pressed to hear it over the background noise of a house.”

“When you consider the cost of the windows license it actually works pretty well I'm impressed.”

Thanks to Wendell at Level 1 Techs for this review.

Thecus® N2810PRO reviewed by TechPowerUp, US

“A great NAS for multimedia purposes.”

05/16/2017 – TechPowerUp, an internationally recognized online IT media,

is well known for its up-to-date analysis of the most recent releases in the

technology industry. Last year they looked at the N2810(2), this year they

looked at its upgraded version, the N2810PRO.

“Compared to the N2810, the N2810PRO comes with an upgraded CPU and

more RAM, using a quad-core Intel Celeron and twice as much RAM, you can

even increase to 8 GB. There is a bundled HDMI, DisplayPort, and an SPDIF for

audio output. This looks to be a great NAS for multimedia purposes.”

The N2810PRO runs the new version of ThecusOS. “ThecusOS 7 is an operating

system with many capabilities and a user friendly interface. The older version

was reliable and fast enough, but being outdated and lacking many options, it

couldn't directly compare to QNAP's and Synology's offerings. This new version looks very promising and

is comparable to the competition despite its short development cycle.”

The review was overall positive in regards to this premium 2-bay NAS from Thecus. “The fast RAID option,

locks on the trays, low vampire power consumption, silent operation, and compatibility with the Btrfs file

system, are all significant advantages. […] With Foxconn's resources behind Thecus, we expect more

innovations and changes in the near future.”

Thecus® N4810 tested in the lab of IT-Expert, Ru.

“What is expected from NAS today? Except the obvious storage functions, it has to be a

“personal cloud”, and this role is perfect for N4810.”

05/25/2017 – IT-Expert – is a popular magazine about new technologies and their

implementation in the home or office. Recently they got interested in a newly

released model – Thecus N4810, upon conducting this review they awarded this

NAS with the “Editor`s Choice”.

The reviewers appreciated the N4810 not only for its sleek and professional looks,

but its quiet operation as well. “The cooling system of the Thecus N4810 consists

of one fan 92mm, located in the rear. Its speed is regulated by the NAS. I would like to stress that even

during active work with four hard drives having been installed, the noise was hardly noticeable (even at

one meter distance I could not get more than 24db).”

During the review, special attention was drawn to the multimedia capabilities of this NAS. Its connectivity, quiet

operation and 4K support allow users to create a comprehensive multimedia-center at home or the office. The

software allows for easy and efficient set up and management.

“If at the times of early development of NAS the operational system was more like an instrument, now one

look at ThecusOS 7.0, and one can understand how far the progress has moved forward. In the interface

one can find almost more than in Windows. It is simply impossible to describe everything in this material,

otherwise the magazine will only be about it, and therefore I will focus on the key points.”

When testing the device, the speed of copying from the server was 108.7 MB /

s, the speed of copying to the server was 105.7 MB / s. "The performance of

Thecus N4810, in my opinion, is optimal. The Intel Celeron N3160

processor, coupled with 4 GB of RAM, allows you to work even with

heavy content for small companies. "

“In conclusion I can acknowledge I like this NAS. It is sleek and

minimalistic at first glance, but it can function as a complete multimedia-

center. But the most important is that the Thecus N4810 can tackle various tasks for a small and medium

business. Personal NAS usage is in any case more secure than using public cloud storage. In addition any

NAS can be customized according to the user`s preferences. This is an excellent storage solution which

deserves our “Masterpiece of Technology” award.”

We thank Alexander Kozlov and the whole team of IT-Expert for the collaboration and award.

Thecus® N2810PLUS and N4310 featured in the new special issue for NAS &

home network by Chip, Germany

“Powerful edition of the Plus series” and “4-bay NAS at a bargain price”

07/11/2017 – Chip is one of the leading computer magazines in Europe and has

released a special issue last month - "The Ultimate Guide for NAS & Home Network

2017" where a whole lot of NAS devices were reviewed and compared.

The N2810PLUS and the N4310 by Thecus participated in this special edition and were

regarded as good products in each of their market segments.

Thecus N2810Plus – Powerful model of the Plus series

“Like Synology, Thecus offers an attractive Plus series which has better features

than the standard models. It has its price but you get a stronger CPU (here a Celeron N3150) and even 4 GB

of memory. Therefore the performance is very good.”

Chip highlights the "very good features and performance, 4 GB of RAM, three USB 3.0 ports, dual LAN

connection and HDMI port".

Thecus N4310 for 190 Euro – 4-bay NAS at a bargain price

“If you do your own market research, you can now find the Thecus N4310 for less than 200 Euro at various

shops. This makes the model a real bargain among the 4-bay NAS. The basic features such as FTP, media or

print servers offer everything you can expect. For the performance, however, you have to cut it some slack:

While the transfer rates for reading are remarkably high. These data rates, however, go down significantly

when writing. [...] The power consumption of this Thecus NAS is very low. It drops to 11.5 watts on standby

which is almost record-setting for a 4-bay NAS. In addition, 1 GB of memory is available so you shouldn't

expect any bottlenecks there.”

Chip emphasizes the "high transfer rates when reading, very low power consumption, very quiet operation and

two USB 3.0 ports”.

Thanks to the whole team at Chip for testing and this very good special issue of their magazine.

Thecus® N2810PRO is "good” and “good value" according to PC-Welt,

Germany

Powerful 2-bay NAS gets top grades for speed and features

08/10/2017 – PC-Welt is one of the leading computer magazines in Germany,

both printed and online, and last month tested and compared six modern

NAS devices suitable for two hard disks. The N2810PRO took part as

Thecus' latest top product of its 2-bay series and finished with good to very

good results overall.

With a powerful Intel quad-core processor, 4 GB of memory, multiple multimedia

connectors and two Ethernet ports, the Thecus N2810PRO is not only fast at its

main function as network storage, but is also very well suited for direct output of

4K video in the living room. And so it's no surprise that this NAS got the best

grades for 'speed' and 'features' of all systems compared by PC-

Welt. Additionally, ThecusOS 7.0 and the range of apps offered was also

convincing.

“The system can be easily and without tools equipped with 3.5” disks. Special

feature: The bays are protected by locks from access by others. The NAS has a

fixed IP which can be changed to a dynamic one during installation. The web interface is graphically done

and thus similar to the competition. The range of settings and services are extensive and can even be extended

by other apps in the webcenter. Speed benchmarking was completed quickly. The network performance in real

life environment was especially powerful.”

With a good to very good overall score (grade 1.76) and a classification of "good value", the Thecus N2810PRO

took third place in the PC-Welt comparison.

Thanks to the whole team at PC-Welt for the review and the detailed comparison.

Thecus® W4810 Awarded 4 stars by ITPRO, UK

“The Thecus W4810 an excellent and affordable first server for small businesses”

08/31/2017- IT Pro has been providing technology insight to businesses

and technology decision makers for years. This month their attention fell

on Thecus’ 4-bay NAS, the W4810.

The W4810 is the latest addition to Thecus’ Windows Storage Server

product line, it runs on a speedy quad-core 1.6GHz Intel Celeron N3160 CPU with 4GB of DDR3 RAM and

comes with a free Windows license. “The inclusion of Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 Essentials makes the

Thecus W4810 an excellent and affordable first server for small businesses, and strong backup and recovery

options make it all the more attractive.”

Seamless integration is available to Microsoft’s leading cloud-based solutions

including Microsoft Cloud, Office 365, and Microsoft Azure Backup. “Backup

features are excellent. The appliance supports a customisable schedule for backing up

all connected clients, using fast VSS snapshots and block-level deduplication. A

separate schedule lets you back up the server itself to external media.”

Some IT departments may be considering holding out for Windows Server 2016, but

that’s an expensive step up: the Essentials edition (which supports the PDC role) costs

nearly as much as the entire W4810 appliance. “For small businesses, Windows

Storage Server 2012 R2 offers all the key features, with good performance for mirrored VDs and automated

client backup and recovery features – making the W4810 an affordable and easily managed first server.”

We would like to thank Dave Mitchell and the whole team at IT Pro for the review.

Thecus® N4820U-S tested and praised by PCADV, TW

"High Value, reliable 4-bay 1U rack series that meets the needs of small and medium enterprises"

09/05/2017 - Earlier this year the Thecus N7770-10G was tested by PCADV and

won the editor's praise, this time the editorial team decided to test the new 4-bay 1U

rackmount NAS – the N4820U-S.

The N4820U series features the Intel® Celeron N3450 1.1GHz (2.2GHz) quad-core

processor and 4GB DDR3 RAM (expandable to 8GB). This series includes two

versions of this model. The N4820U -S has a single standard built in power supply

unit, alternatively the N4820U -R offers a redundant power supply for protection.

“The ThecusOS 7.0 interface has evolved, now containing

feature-oriented interface icons, allowing users who are even

using a NAS for the first time, to easily get started. Thecus

OS 7.0 also supports Scale-Out extension technology.” Scale-

Out allows users to easily expand their NAS infrastructure

dynamically across numerous independent Thecus NAS

systems in the same network subnet.

The final thoughts concentrated on the unit’s price-point and scalability. "For small and medium-sized

businesses that want to build a shared file system or a personal storage hub, the cost won’t be a burden.

[…] Looking at future scalability, NAS's App Center also includes a number of commercial applications to

choose from, from the use of Scale-Out or Stackable (iSCSI volume) to increase storage capacity, but also the

use of disk migration directly to install onto more powerful models”

We would to thank the editors at PCADV for the review.

Thecus® N2350 reviewed by SmallNetBuilder, USA

“2-bay SOHO NAS with decent performance that won't empty your wallet.”

09/07/2017- This month, American reviewer SmallNetBuilder released the

results of their test of Thecus N2350. Tried and tested, compared and

clarified, this is what the media had to report.

The N2350 is the latest two-bay NAS from Thecus, powered by a Marvell

Armada 385 dual-core processor running at 1 GHz. “The N2350 scored fairly

well compared with the other two NASes (in the same price range). It had

category wins for Write Benchmarks, Mixed Read Write and for Backup […] it

tied when it came to the iSCSI benchmarks.”

“The Thecus N2350 has a few features not typically found on entry-level

NASes—hot swappable drives and iSCSI support. Even better, it supports

iSCSI initiator, a feature lacking even in many much more expensive NASes.

With iSCSI initiator, you can use other NASes running as iSCSI targets to

create a very large storage pool on the N2350.” Though home users are unlikely to use iSCSI, in the small

office environment, the N2350's iSCSI features could be put to good use.

“The N2350 is currently priced around $120 - quite a bargain”

We would to thank Tim Higgins and the whole team at SmallNetBuilder for the review.

about technology trends and hardware for many years. After checking out the

Thecus N2810 last year, they recently have taken a look at the upgraded

version, the N2810PLUS.

The Thecus N2810PLUS now comes with a quad-core processor and 4 GB of memory

and when installing this NAS, PC Magazin emphasized: "An assistant guides you

through the most important steps to setting up the NAS. […] Very nice: When setting

up the internal storage, Thecus [...] offers the modern Btrfs file system and thus also

folder snapshots."

The N2810PLUS “offers an abundance of functions that can be tracked by a search

function. [...] With transfer rates of around 120 MB/s (read and write) using one of its

two LAN ports, the N2810PLUS is a top performer in terms of speed in our test field."

"The fan of the NAS purrs with a living-room-friendly 29.5 dBA in idle mode. Especially important for a

device that offers to be used as a media player with an HDMI port supporting UHD resolution."

For their verdict, PC Magazin worked out two important positive points: "Speed and 4K-capable HDMI output".

Overall, the N2810PLUS got a 'good' grade with 83 points and even got a "very good" when looking at the price-

performance ratio.

The review of the N2810PLUS by PC Magazin concludes with: “Thecus shines with high transfer rates and

low price.”
