Kicking off the season is our ever-popularmusic student production. This yearwe areperforming an abridged version of Carl Orff’s‘Carmina Burana’. Also, wewelcome back ahost of favourite performers to our regularseries of organ recitals and our old friends,The Edinburgh Quartet, continue their longand fruitful collaborationwith us.

This year also sees a focus upon non-westernmusicwith a spectacular concert of ChineseMusic (sponsored by theConfucius Institute forScotland in partnershipwith AberdeenChineseStudiesGroup) and also IndianMusic fromSimonThacker’s fabulous, NavaRasaEnsemble. Both of theseweremade possibleby our continuing relationshipwith sound(North East Scotland’s ContemporaryMusicFestival) as are other concerts,masterclassesand seminars presented onmany aspects ofcontemporarymusic.

For the first timewe link-upwith the SpanishConsulate in Edinburgh to celebrate Spanishmusic and culturewith a visit from two verydistinguishedmusicians – AraMalikian (violin)andDaniel de Pino (piano), andwelcome backbrilliant soprano, Irene Drummond in acelebration of the poetry of Burns in this, his250th anniversary ‘homecoming’ year.

The AberdeenMusic Prize also enters its thirdyearwith a record number of entries. The BBCScottish Symphony Orchestra and eminentcomposer-judge, JamesMacMillan CBEwill besifting through the scores to decidewhowill

win the £5000 prize, which takes the formofa commission for the BBCSSO. This is not tobemissed!

Our commitment to earlymusic ismarked thisseasonwith a visit fromone of the greatestsopranos of her generation, DameEmmaKirkby DBE. DameEmmawill present awonderful concert of early song accompanied bythe internationally renowned, Rose Consort ofViols at StMachar’s Cathedral. If you love earlymusic, then book your ticket quickly as herconcerts are always sell-outs!

This season also sees the launch of our‘Fridays at 4:30’ series – a new series ofinformal recitals for Organ and voices lastingaround 30minutes in King’s College Chapel.
