Flickr - The original photo sharing website. Still good but languishing with old technology and lack of vision of what it can be.

Instagram - Hip, fun and interactive, able to use filters, but trendy and square.

Facebook - easy and everywhere, great for snapshots and ‘day in the life’ type shots

Twitter - Here and now. I am doing this. I am eating this. I look like this.

Google + - all of the above, growing but still a bit confused about itself.

Tumbler - Visual oriented blog. Simple, direct. Great for travel pics and sequences/series.

Pinterest - Best for information, how to, samples, examples, organizing images.

Blog - Best for detailed explanations, text/image combinations

What are your Goals?

Sales - You need GREAT photos of your merchandise. Spend the money or gain the expertise and do it yourself. No substitute for a clear photo.

Information - Photo + text, Infographics, sequences of images. Set up shot, close up detail.

Promotion/Advertising - Location, environment, clarity of purpose. What are you promoting? Don’t get distracted from that.

Biography - Make the portrait match the person’s real image. Who are you projecting?

History - Use of special effects, costumes, locations are essential, but don’t over do it. Consistency is key.

Action - Fast camera, fast lens, fast shutter, good light. Situate yourself in the right place.
