Startingwith proven Cat 3500 series components built for long, heavy-dutyoperation, Caterpillar developed the C175 family with the air intakesystem, fuel management and advanced electronics of ACERTTechnology to boost power while improving overall efficiency andlowering emissions.

Managing air flow formaximum performanceAir management is a building blockof ACERT™ Technology. The C175 hasa tall cross-flow cylinder head thataccommodates larger ports and helpsdirect a large amount of cool air into thecylinder with the least resistance, resultingin the best port performance of any enginein the world. The C175 improved breathingenables a greater amount of cool air inand out of the engine, which helps producehigher power ratings and lower emissions.This, along with lower air pumping losses,results in reduced fuel consumption.

Fuel system advancesfor multiple benefitsThe C175 features the Cat Common RailFuel System for fuel delivery, one of thebuilding blocks of ACERT Technology.The Cat Common Rail Fuel System offersfull control of fuel delivery and fuel pressureat any load or speed for superior transientresponse and block load acceptance aswell as shorter recovery time. Throughthe use of higher pressures and precisecontrol of time, amount of fuel injection,injection pressure and multiple injections,the Cat Common Rail Fuel System alsoimproves cold start capability, lowersfuel consumption and reduces emissions.

Engine controls that keepyou in controlThe C175 has a robust control system,featuring more pressure and temperaturesensors for enhanced engine monitoring.C175 engine controls use the latest versionof the ADEM™A4 Engine Control Module(ECM) to deliver 50 times the computingpower of its predecessor.

A cooling system thatjust got coolerThe C175 cooling system was designed tominimize heat rejection by cooling only theparts that require cooling, resulting in a 20to 30 percent improvement in heat rejectionper kW produced.

Lube system improvementsfor exceptional durabilityThe C175 lube system features two pistoncooling jets per piston, plus a large capacityoil pump and a pressure regulation valvethat helps maintain optimum oil pressureat all speeds, loads and throughout the lifeof the engine, increasing durability.

Core engine componentsbuilt for big powerThe components of the C175 aredesigned for higher strength, durability andcompactness. A bigger, robust steel-forgedcrankshaft handles bigger loads, while thecast iron engine block provides increasedstrength and lighter weight, so you getmore power out of a smaller package.

Package Cooling SystemThe C175 features two types of radiators—horizontal remote and vertical packageradiators. Radiators are sized for generatorset ratings and optimized for lower airflow,resulting in lower installation cost.
