DIRECTOR ’S NOTE

One of the most enjoyable aspects of directing a show (and there are many) is being able to see the progression a cast makes as they develop an understanding of the material and begin to see the words as something more than text that needs to be recited convinc-ingly. When I first read through this script, I saw immediately that this was not a typical play. Every line of dialogue is laced with hidden motives, juicy gossip and manipulation.The actors I cast in this show have worked harder than any other I have had the pleasure to work with. And I have had some GREAT casts in my directorial career. They’ve done their utmost to create compelling characterizations that are both intriguing and entertaining. Best of all, we’ve all become fast friends during the creative process, and I look forward to many fruitful collaborations with each of them in the future.We hope you enjoy tonight’s performance. Thanks so much for choosing to spend your evening with us!

Bobby Alexander (Venticello One) Bobby is honored to be appearing for the seventh time with TOTH. He’s been per-forming since the tender age of seven-teen--and he’s loved every minute of it! Fave roles include The Emerald City Guard in The Wizard of Oz, Matthias in The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, The Squeegeeman in RENT, and Nicholas Beckett in What the But-ler Saw. He’s also played various parts in We Will Rock You, City of Angels, Tommy, and The Spirit of All Hallow’s Eve. April marked his directing debut at the Joliet Junior College One-Act Festival for Cinnamon Rainbow. He’d like to thank Craig and the whole TOTH staff, Gail for the midnight trips to Denny’s, his parents for putting up with his crazy hobby, and tonight’s audience, whose applause is our payment. Enjoy!

Matthew Bockus (Valet, Townsperson)Matthew is thrilled to be working with Craig again. He was last seen on this stage in Tommy. Desiring to gain experi-ence on other stages, he has worked with the Joliet Drama Guild in The Foreigner, and was seen in Studio J’s production of What the Butler Saw. He wishes to thank his fellow cast members for making this a memorable experience, Craig Engel for his trust and encouragement, you the audience, and most of all, his loving wife for her encouragement and support.

Michael Brown (Count Franz Orsini-Rosenberg) Ever since I was little & Father was Director of the Imperial Opera, I’ve been exposed to theater. I didn’t like it then & promised myself that when I grew up I was “outta here”. I wanted to travel, have lots of money, hang out with famous people & go to lots of parties. When I got a little older, I realized that if I did take over my father’s job, I could do most of that stuff. I couldn’t spend a lot of time traveling, because I pretty much had to stick around Vienna. But, hey, four out of five wasn’t bad. I could pretend to love the job – acting was what I knew. Just fawn over my superiors & bully everybody else. That way they won’t know that I’m just coasting. If any threaten-ing talent comes along, intimidate him early. Take Mozart, for example. When he showed up, I decided that I really needed to…Wait a minute! That’s my back-story. Sorry about that. Michael is the father of 8 children, a UPS driver, a real estate entrepreneur and has been a resident of Bolingbrook since 1975. He likes movies and pizza and his grandkids (19 and counting). He also likes to build and repair things. He does panto-

mime, whistling and humorous sketches of his own creation. He’s been in numerous productions. The Foreigner, The Music Man, Oliver!, Arsenic and Old Lace, and Picasso at the Lapin Agile are some of his favorites. Amadeus will be another. This will be his 13th performance in a production by this great Bolingbrook theater group – hav-ing started before it became “Theatre-On-The-Hill”. And he says that he learns things from the other actors in each play.

Dustin Carroll (Townsperson) Dustin is an all-around brilliant, contem-plative, and industrious member of TOTH. Lead roles have included Albert Jr. in Escanaba in Love and Judas in The Last Days of Judas Iscariot. An alumni of Colum-bia College and graduate of Animation Mentor, Dustin is the Director of Motion Capture at High Voltage and a computer programmer/animator at Red Eye Studios. Besides theatre, he has a plethora of other interests. A moonlighting member of the renowned male dancing troupe, Tantric Cloggers, Dustin also recently became a noted author with his book entitled, Genetic Mutations: One-Legged Unicorns and Monkeys with Cartilaginous Dorsal Fins. Of course, this paragraph is filled with fallacies, but he has been very busy with work, so his girlfriend, Christine, has very generously written his bio for him without asking for his permission or input.

Alyssa Emilio (Cook, Townsperson) This is Alyssa’s sixth show with Theatre-on-the-Hill. She is very happy and excited to be in another of Craig’s amazing produc-tions. Alyssa would like to thank her friends and family for always supporting her.

Craig J. Engel (Director, Producer) Craig spends his time advising the shadow government as to how best perpetuate the human race in the coming post-apocalyptic world. When he emerges from the government’s fortified bunkers under the Appalachians, he devises potential cures for Dengue fever, forges ahead with the incomprehensible task of reconciling art & commerce, completes the New York Times crossword, creates gourmet cuisine for the homeless, hunts marlin in the deep blue waters of Baja, creates award-winning advertising for his eccentric clients, rails against PowerPoint and Wal-Mart as the demise of civilization, and takes time to press wild flowers, all while juggling pesky calls from various world superpowers. Craig usually attempts to stay off the stage (audiences are thankful for this) and has directed many well-received shows, includ-

ing --One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Pi-casso at the Lapin Agile, Dangerous Liaisons, Escanaba in Da Moonlight, A Flea in Her Ear, Escanaba in Love, The Last Days of Judas Is-cariot, and most recently, The Elephant Man. With a perfect face for voice-over work, he is often heard shilling products on televi-sion, video, and radio. He is also TOTH’s president, which takes up just a little bit of his time. Many thanks to this incredible cast for their energy and enthusiasm, a terrific crew, and Lorrisa, his flame eternale, for the light she shines on him every day.

Julie Guida (Teresa Salieri, Townsperson)As a child, Julie performed in Wizard of Oz, Godspell, and Jesus Christ Superstar with her church group, “The Swingin’ Singers”. Most recently, Julie performed in TOTH’s production of The Who’s Tommy, learn-ing how to become a quick change artist and play different roles. This is Julie’s first opportunity to work under the direction of very talented and marvelous Craig Engel. Julie’s main role are as an awesome wife and mother, with three sons and a supportive husband; and as a Regional Account Manager at Western Union. Julie loves bicycling, swimming, camp-ing, going to concerts, dancing, climbing, singing, reading books, and photography.

Gus Gustafson (Amadeus) Gus is very excited at the opportunity to play Mozart. With Theatre-on-the-Hill, he has played everything from Satan to the Elephant Man and enjoys every minute of it. He also is thankful for working with such a great cast. Gus hopes to become a successful actor and believes that Amadeus will really help showcase his talents. He would like to thank Craig for pushing him to be the best, his parents for always believing in him, and Courtney for putting up with his insanity. Gus would also like to dedicate his performance to his best friend who without knowing, really helped him get back into theater. The only thing Gus has left to say is, “Never give up on your dreams and always reach for the stars.”

Eddie Kim (Venticello Two) Amadeus is Eddie’s third major show and his first with Theatre-on-the-Hill. Previous roles include Dale in the Il-lini Union Board’s production of F.O.B. at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. He is very grateful to TOTH for welcoming him into their family and very excited for Amadeus and hope-fully many other shows with TOTH.

Julie Szeszol-Kinsey (Kapellmeister Bono/Costume Designer) This is Julie’s second production with TOTH, after designing costumes for The Elephant Man in March. In her early experiences of theater, she worked for CoD’s student productions, The Mac, and their in-house professional company, Buffalo Theatre Ensemble, and interned in Stage Management at Victory Gardens Theatre in Chicago. Julie proudly earned a BFA in Theatrical Design and Pro-duction from Northern Illinois University in 2003. While at NIU, she spent many hours working reluctantly with costumes while pining to work electrics. After graduation, she finally accepted sewing and costuming as a love. A recycling artist, Julie finds old materials and turns them into new things, taking the gaudy to the gaudiest (skipping the “er” stage) because her motto is “the ug-lier it is, the more beautiful it becomes.” Her favorite thing to make is hats. Julie would like to thank her family and friends for their support, and her loving husband who em-braced her funky theatre obsession early on in their relationship. She would also like to thank Theatre-on-the-Hill for inviting her to join such a great theatre company and presenting her with many opportunities.

Adam Krause (Emperor Joseph) This is Adam’s TOTH debut, and he is very happy to be playing the famous sovereign King Joseph. Adam first entered the theatre world by auditioning for a show on a dare despite lacking any formal acting training whatsoever - an oversight which he hopes to rectify one day – and has performed live theatre almost continuously for the nearly five years since. He loves the process of developing a character’s back story, and has enjoyed the opportunity to play several lead roles including Jonathan Harker in Dracula, Clifford Anderson in Deathtrap, Charlie Baker in The Foreigner, Lord Windermere in Lady Windermere’s Fan, Dr. Edward Armstrong in And Then There Were None, Chris in the world premiere of Caliban, Dancing, and most recently Frank Burns in M*A*S*H. When he’s not acting on weekends, enriching other people’s lives during the week, or seeding Facebook with Mafia Wars artifacts, he generally leads a fruitful life in the suburbs.

Dave Lichty (Count Johann Kilian Von Strack) Dave’s theatrical endeavors span 25 years and two states, but include only about five years of any real significance. After meeting his bride-to-be in a produc-tion of The Pajama Game in Manhattan Beach, California, he went on a 20-year

hiatus, having accomplished the lofty goal of meeting girls. His return to the stage was encouraged by the aforementioned bride-to-be (long ago promoted to full matrimo-nial status), who was frankly tired of him moping around the house. Dave previously portrayed Judge Carnes in Oklahoma!, Buddy Fidler in City of Angels, Caiphias the Elder in The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, and Carr Gomm in The Elephant Man, all with TOTH. When Dave isn’t participating in theatrical silliness, he works at being husband to wife Robin, Dad to daughter Katy, and being an administrative function-ary at Argonne National Laboratory. His endless thanks and gratitude go Robin and Katy for letting him play with the big kids even after the street lights go on.

Dave Madonia (Young Salieri) This is Dave’s first production with Theater-on-the-Hill. A graduate of Marquette University, Dave has been seen in The Wizard of Oz, played Orin Scrivello, DDS in Little Shop of Horrors, and Harry McAfee in Bye Bye Birdie before graduating from MPA. He has also been seen as Butch in Leading Ladies, and was in The Lion in Winter with the Palos Village Players. Dave says Salieri is by far the most complex, challenging character he has had the honor of play-ing. He hopes that you all enjoy tonight’s performance, because every member of the cast has put every ounce of their energy into making this show the best that it can be. Dave would like to thank his friends and family for always sup-porting him in acting and life. To Mom for never missing a show; Dad for always having confidence in me; sister Jackie for always smiling; the Thursday Night Fun Club for being a second family; D-Rod for being my brother; and Craig for putting up with me trying to turn this show into a musical with all my sing-song. Pacem!

Christine Martin (Kristina Cavalieri, Townsperson) Christine has been in seven TOTH musicals, including last summer’s Tommy, in which she was able to flex her artistic muscles as a choreographer. TOTH is like a melting pot for the artistic; it has been invaluable in engendering a second family for Christine that is filled with remarkable, compassionate, hilarious people (Craig Engel, Lorrisa Julianus, Mi-chael Fudala, and Sharon Hand are perfect examples!). Christine is also gifted with a supportive biological family, a convention-ally-challenged boyfriend (Dustin—isn’t he gorgeous?), and two happy, frolicking ferrets (Duke and Kora). Within the year,

Christine will be a certified mathematics teacher through National-Louis’ sec-ondary teaching master’s program.

Ed Modesto (Old Salieri) Ed is very happy to be returning to Theatre-on-the-Hill. He was last seen here as Ross/Bishop Howe in The Elephant Man. Other shows in the area include Odd Couple, Little Women, Miss Saigon, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Twelve Angry Men, La Cage Aux Folles, Pajama Game, Rocky Horror Show, Picasso at the Lapine Agile, Man of La Mancha, Titanic, and Taming of the Shrew. When not indulg-ing his passion for theater, he is an oral sur-geon practicing in Orland Park. He is glad to be working with such a talented cast and director, and hopes to be involved in future productions at Theatre-on-the-Hill.

Cathleen Nettles (Townsperson) Cathleen has been acting since she was in grade school, in plays such as A Midsum-mer Night’s Dream and Robin Hood, while also acting and doing improv in the educational after-school activity program Destination Imagination. In high school, she played saxophone with the school Jazz band, Pep band, and Concert band. In college, Ms. Nettles earned a degree in theatre. In summer 2009, she was one of many performers in Shakespeare’s First Folio Monologues at Joliet Junior College. During which she played Lady Anne in Richard III. Shortly afterwards she began performing at Theatre-on-the-Hill. Her first show was in The Spirit of All Hallow’s Eve. From there, she was in The Elephant Man and The Who’s Tommy. Ms. Nettles plans to continue acting.

Cameron Nowicki (Baron GottfriedVan Sweiten) Amadeus is Cameron’s first show since he acted in TOTH’s production of Hellcab in 2007. He has spent the last three years playing in various bands such as Janes Avenue and This Honest Lie, and is currently working on a new project with the working title of Lake Shore Drive. He has also been seen doing various tech jobs with Theatre-on-the-Hill, such as lights for 2010’s summer show, Tommy. In Cameron’s spare time he likes to play and write music, play video games, hang out with friends, go to Chicago, you know, everything a normal 20-year old would do. He is also going to be going to Joliet Junior College in the spring semester. As far as Cameron’s experience with TOTH goes, all he has to say is “It’s always a good time. I enjoy every minute I have with these people. It’s almost like a second family to me. “

Angela Salvaggione (Concert Pianist) Angela graduated from DePaul Univer-sity with her degree in Music Education. She studied piano under Mary Sauer and bassoon under Bruce Grainger. She cur-rently maintains a private studio of 50-60 students, teaching piano and woodwinds. An active musician in the Joliet area, Angela plays and composes for musicals as well as for three area churches. Her composition and piano arrangements were recently published in The Pilgrim Press’ new praise and worship songbook, Sing! Prayer and Praise. Amadeus is her second show with Theater-on-the-Hill, having made her debut with the group in this past summer’s production of The Who’s “Tommy.

Jacqueline Schultz (Constanze Mozart) A 2010 graduate of Benedictine University, Jacqueline is a 12-year theater veteran. Past roles include Rizzo in Grease, Belle in Beauty & the Beast, the Evil Queen in Snow White & the Seven Dwarves, Sonia in Godspell, and a Wickersham Brother in Se-ussical! She also choreographed Godspell and Seussical! Although she enjoys every

element of staging a theatrical production, the ways choreography can accent a story has always fascinated her. She enjoys creat-ing dances while teaching and perfecting them. Nothing thrills her more than watch-ing her choreography on stage. Jacqueline is thrilled to be in this production. Since elementary school, it has been her dream to play Constanze, and she is so glad that she is finally fulfilling one of her life goals with such an outstanding company. Her number one desire in life is to appear onstage as Christine in The Phantom of the Opera. Thanks to cousin Ashley for inspiring her to become a dancer; her fam-ily for being so supportive; Craig for being such an amazing director and for giving her this opportunity; Julie for creating the most beautiful costume she will ever wear, and best friend Jackie Scheer for being her thespian lover. Jacqueline would also like to thank tonight’s audience and hopes that you all enjoy your trip to 18th-century Vienna to look into the last decade of one of the greatest composers who ever lived.
