2017 "Anything Goes" Production a Big Success After missing summer 2016 due to construction constraints, WCT came back with a splash this year! Our production of Cole Porter's "Anything Goes" was widely received with accolades throughout the local community and greater KC arts area. Director Guy Gardner, musical director Delano Mendoza, and stage manager Rebekah Grieb did an outstanding job using strong local talent as well as introducing us to new actors, musicians and crew. The entire group melded together well and quickly and put on a fantastic show that was seen by more than 600 people. We continue to be so grateful to our founders, board members throughout the years, and faithful supporters. Here's to another wonderful year of the growth of arts in our community! PAGE 2 VOLUME 2, ISSUE 2WESTON COMMUNITY THEATRE

"Weston is a small town...known for antiques and a day trip getaway from KC. They also have the Weston Community Theater which opened "Anything Goes" Wednesday night.  I believe community based theaters are extremely important, especially in a small town...It’s done for the pure love of theater, not to make a profit. It taps the community for their creative involvement and their financial support. And Weston has been doing this since 2003.      The primary story is a romantic comedy between Billy Croker (Austin Sang) and Hope Harcourt (Brooke May). She is engaged to the very British and rather repressed Lord Evelyn Oakley (well played by Jak Pennington), whose engagement is being heavily pressured by Mrs. Harcourt (Tracy McClung). After the chance meeting [onboard a ship], Billy decides he must stay on and win Hope back. The secondary, and extremely funny, plot consists of the more nefarious characters in the show...Moonface Martin (Colin Kinnick) and his sidekick Bonnie (Elise Bene). Kinnick and Bene are superb as the notorious and spontaneous gangsters. Kinnick’s comic timing shines brightly as each plot twist brings out his larcenous side. Bene matches his energy and is a delight to watch. Billy and Moonface enlist Billy’s friend, wellknown nightclub singer Reno Sweeney (Natasha Gibbons), to have Sweeney set up Oakley. Sweeney is accompanied by her “Angels”, who are anything but angels. Chastity (Ann Eddy), Purity (Olivia Jane), Virtue (Katie Pugh) and Charity (McKenna Murdock)... do a superb job of playing the sexuality while singing and dancing. Rounding out the principal cast is Bishop Henry T. Dobson (Jakson Pennington), Ching (Andrew Ivy), Ling (Mitchell Pennington), Captains (Jonah Vandel and Garrett Terpening) and the Purser (Chase Bridger).     The great thing about Weston Community theater is they use everyone. Sometimes with other companies, that can make for a very uneven production. But this cast all did a great job."

SHAKESPEARE COMES TO WESTON    It was Hamlet like you've never seen him. WCT's Education Chair, Kirk Nelson, helped to bring Heart of America's Shakespeare Festival to Weston this summer for the two-week Camp Shakespeare.      Nine campers ages 8-14 spent 10 days learning lots of Shakespeare, set design, costume construction, stage

sword fighting, and new improvisation skills.      Camp Director Collin Vorbeck (a PhD candidate at Texas Tech) and intern Devery North (a master's degree candidate from Stephens College) led the camp.     More than 50 fans came to see the hour-long production of "Hamlet" presented at West Platte High School.
