'The Solutions are available. Even the support networks are in place. The problem is, the people don't know, teachers don't know, governments don't...' Some of you may have heard this before, but it has never been shown as concrete as we do it here, short inspirational videos of well known model solutions (to be taken to scale), set in historic context (especially the amazing new era of youth leadership, and how established education principles can perfectly merge with the tools and methods used by avantgarde changemakers. It's all there. But it takes people to realize and let their hope soar by turning their eyes away from poop media to this Bright New World and let this spirit flow into their hands.

THERE ARE INDIVIDUALS

One morning, Craig was flipping through the newspaper, looking for comic strips. His attention was caught by the photo of a boy his age, Iqbal Masiq, who had been sold into slavery and shot after speaking up against it. Craig was shocked. The next day, he asked his teacher for permission to speak to his classmates. He was given five minutes. "I do not know what, but something needs to be done. Who is ready to help?" Twelve hands went up. Free The Children was born.

Adults said their cause was hopeless. The kids did not listen.

They liberate children, sparked the global seal of child labour free carpets. They build a new school every week, 750 to-date, a new clinic every second, establish adopt-a-village

programs in fourty-five countries, provide water and alternative income programs. Free The Children is the world's largest network of children helping children and there's more. You'll find out two pages later.

There are others. Mayerly has mobilised three million children for creating peace zones in the civil war. Kimmie has led campaigns for liberating twenty thousand child soldiers. Erica has stopped construction of a dirty factory in Los Angeles. Babar is the world's youngest headmaster. Every day, he provides free schooling for five hundred street children. William built electric windmills from scratch to irrigate his backcountry village. Ta'kaiya makes headlines by raising her voice for Canada's pristine wilderness. Jessie's ninth grade project has initiated renewable energy programs that can save her state two billion dollars annually. Eight-year-old Vivienne has raised one hundred fifty thousand dollars for freeing slaves. There is no way that adults could achieve this.

THERE EXIST NETWORKS

In 1990, a group of 12 year olds started YES! to change the public image of the young, angry activist.

After speaking to 600,000 school children across the continental United States, they noticed the need for building healing bridges across historic divides of race, wealth and gender. Where would Mayerly or Kimmie go to talk about their experiences, find healing and build community? They go to YES! Jams.

These week-long gatherings of outstanding youth leaders have laid the foundation of incredible work and innovation on six continents.

Working at the forefront of social change,

healing, forgiveness and profound personal transformation YES! have not only spawned five hundred organisations, innovative programs connecting people of priviledge, young wealth holders and street activists, but are pioneering a new, spiritual leadership culture.

Ocean Robbins, YES! co-founder

Their greatest gift to humanity may be their example of transforming anger into love and service, compassion for all. Stepping up like an angel. This opens all doors and brings about miracles of cooperation. Are you ready?

Page 21: The YL Youth-LeadeR Handbook part 1 Welcome to a Bright New World

AND THERE IS WE DAY!

During their years with Free The Children, Craig and Marc Kielburger made such profound experiences of hospitality, joy and open friendship among the poorest people, that they stepped up their mission from helping children abroad to rekindling the spirit of love, compassion, cooperation and community in North America.

MeToWe is a new lifestyle movement, taking changemaking into the mainstream with We Day events.

More than one hundred thousand teen activists gather at W e Day for sharing thier achievements and gearing up for a year long series of actions. They are joined by world leaders in social change, spiritual leaders, sport s, music celebrities, and millions watching on tv.

Another remarkable thing about WeDays is that they are bringing groundbreaking innovation on stage, every time. Speakers spark historically novel campaigns on aboriginal issues, bullying, genocide, child soldiers, physical handicap, the power of one and founding love clubs. Can you imagine the moment Craig mentions that all this might only exist because his teacher granted him five minutes to speak about his concerns and passion in class, and because thousands of teachers support FTC teens today as their strongest ally. Twenty seven thousand kids respond with tumultuous applause, teachers are in tears. Can you pull this stunt for millions on tv?The MeToW e site will keep you busy exploring for a long time with unparalleled quality contents, teaching tools, own talkshows, weekly columns, volunteer trips, fair trade, Canada's largest organic clothing company, and - once again changing public perception towards Shameless Idealism.

http://bit.ly/WInyWX

Kids from 3,000 schools join W e Days in every major city. Over only two years, likes have grown to 2.7 million, funds risen to $20 million for 500 partners in 45 coun-tries. WeDays and Take Action Academies spreading to the USA. And they are only starting. Watch the video. You cannot imagine!

When youth hear of grand solutions, they're all ears!

With Polly Higgins, Earth Lawyer, students join humanity's cutting edge campaign for making ecocide a crime at the International Criminal Court. This means taking the lead on a historic, moral civilisational shift like the abolition of institutional slavery.

"This is so awesome. I want Ecocide to be taught in all New Zealand schools. Go, Polly, go!" Amy, 17

With John D. Liu, global leader in large scale ecosystem restoration, student s can learn about 'restoration miracles' and take action, explore, document and contribute model solutions to a global multimedia platform.

With Julia Bacha, multi-award winning film maker and famous TED presenter, students discover hundreds of peaceful bi-national citizen initiatives in Palestine. They experience instant worldview shift and can join

in spearheading a media culture towards peace in the Middle East.

Games for overcoming depression and strengthening resilience and getting SuperBetter? This will strike a chord with many . Jane McGonigal is a global superstar in reality gaming and her latest free online game can be an instant 'SUPER BETTER' booster for teens.

Campaigns to end cyberbullying and street harassment, there are many great partners. And of course the youth...join Vivienne, 8, in liberating thousands of slave. No joke!

IT'S LIKE IN SPORTS AND MUSIC. It is not the soccer or jazz dance team around the block that inspires kids to soar. I dare you, swap all your professional music files for recordings of local amateur bands. Wow, how uplifted will you feel throughout the year? It's when that boy puts over his idol's soccer shirt he grows by 5 inches. It may little improve the quality of his play but it massively improves his tenacity to face hardship, train and walk the path of practice for years.

IT IS THE SAME IN CHANGEMAKING. Vision. Passion. Practice. Skills evolve over time, and the impacts are far more meaningful and bigger than moving nets

or entertaining audiences.

WE NEED TO SEE IT CAN BE "FOR REAL"

If we are talking about a different society, about bringing about change we have to see that this is actually possible in the LIVING UNIVERSE. Because so far, this is beyond our experience and even outside our imagination. such human beings exist and that it is possible for themselves to unfold similar potentials and radiation when they ignite their passion.

WE NEED TO FEEL IT FOR REAL. Most of us have never felt the profound love, compassion, admiration, gratitude, care, hope, passion, hope and tenacity

This is why the videos! are so important and such an incredible breakthrough and gif t to humankind. And YL's approach to writing and composition. The fact that people are so surprised, moved to tears, inspired to even get up and take action tells you everything.

Inspired = infused with SPIRIT. The quest for a Sustainable Civilisation is foremost a spiritual matter. Spiritual = not tan-gible. It depends on the will and effort to live the different and let the ego go. And to let one's LIGHT shine like YES! jammers do. See the light in these peo-ple's faces? Switch on your light - not with messianic enthusiasm, but with gentle com/passion and your example will INSPIRE others. Sounds cheesy, but that's what fairy tales are, and they're for real.

for the Earth, for human beings and for bringing about change. It is this combination that makes all the difference. This is what makes these amazing people do what they do. And since we can all feel this - even through media - we can all become such changemakers. This is why SPIRIT transfer is even more important than knowledge transfer.

Page 41: The YL Youth-LeadeR Handbook part 1 Welcome to a Bright New World

Little stuff matters. But Soup kitchens, turning off the tap and munching on organic muesli bars does not help us end the destruction of life systems, the culture of rape and violence and a lot of other things. Further, human beings have dignity. They react with a natural resistance to a prescribed illusion of force caressing their trash while the big production patterns are not being changed a bit. Why move if it's only worth for 2% of the path, and if only citizens have to bear it?

Young people are fantastic activists from solidarity and development to peacemaking. But there are societal spheres beyond young people's insights.

These sectors are intransparent jungles with their own language, discourse, inherited illogic and rigid, outdated patterns. For instance, business, production and sales, decision-making, law, education, food...

They are however not beyond young people's understanding, when presented with shortcomings and sound, proven alternative models - notably by well versed and honourable people. This is how changes are made on societal macro levels, and it is youth who can make them real - with their time and number. That's huge.

The solutions exist, and the people are willing and enthusiastic to see them come real, when they get to know about them.

What people need to see is feasible, proven solutions, their impacts, the steps to replication and their role in it.

Adult superstar changemakers are absolutely crucial as experts and mentors showing a proven way for the big picture. Erin Gruwell and Stephen Ritz, for example, offer miracle solutions for just any school on Earth. Serious! (see YL Partners)

By interacting with the changemakers already as early teens, youth naturally flow into advanced changemaking spheres when choosing internships. These are the learning environmentsfor their professional path and a Sustainable Civilisation.

Maybe more important: these grown-ups are role models of what we can BE like when we are past 18 years old. We need not sell out, not bury our dreams, integrity and passion. In fact, they help us go off like a shooting star on our professional path, liberated from the straight jackets of schooling.

Nobel Peace laureate Muhammad Yunus has realised a variety of development solutions that have established a new paradigm of Social Business that both completes the old profit-driven model and turns it upside down. Thousands of people join Grameen Creative Lab summits, and Social Business curricula are being taught in more than 300 colleges.

Page 42: The YL Youth-LeadeR Handbook part 1 Welcome to a Bright New World

A Utopia is a social vision not yet realised. But this doesn't mean a utopian is impossible!

Here are a few very recent Utopias. Democracy in Europe? Women's voting rights? Flying machines? Safe air travel affordable to millions? Fruit s in winter? Instant viewing of events on other places on the planet by sending rays through space, reflecting them on satellites, and back to Earth. Tele-Vision?

Mordor's greatest achievement is today's connotation that idealist ideas be a cuckoo crazy waste of time.

This questions is easier to answer than you may think.

Before you go on a holiday with your lover, you thought about it, you envisaged it. And then you take the steps for making it true.

like Jane Mc Gonigal, Top10 TED Talks on the powers of gaming to improve life and the world. This means tapping into the creativity and well-being of 500 million people.

like Polly Higgins, Earth Lawyer, Top10 Eco Thinkers, driving Ecocide to become a crime at the ICC. This means changing themorals of an old unsustainable culture, from inert to ecocentric worldview andadvancing industrial civilisation.

like Ken Robinson's posi-tions on creativity, schoolsand learning culture, they.

and basic foundation ofa sustainable and thrivingcivilisation. It needs tobe shared with youthso they becomeEarth Citizens.

Clear? The vision comes first. A beautiful vision of joy, win-win and abundance for both of you. Then, you take steps towards making this vision true, leaving room for optimal adaptation as you go, especially for a real awesome, proper travel holiday: backpacking.

Future Sciences explain that the future is created bywhat is, by trends, by accidents and by - your vision. The same is true for your holiday.

THESE VISIONARIES AND SOLUTIONS NEED THE YOUNG GENERATION TO BECOME REAL.It is the Young Generation who can take these grand innovations to scale. While adults lack time and awareness, youth are instantly on fire for these issues. They have the TIME to take action, they can keep it alive in their daily school community of 1,000 kids and they generate media presence.

Polly's Ecocide campaign, for example, offers them the tools to do so, from excellent materials to setting up official Youth Focal Points in their nations.

It creates the ambiencethrough imagery and interactive materials(other places feature posters or statues of sports stars, kings, film stars, or - geographical maps or biology posters)

It is like a stagefor local activities and involvement (these are often little noticed. Even if smaller, they gain significance in the light, and as part of the global movement)

It is the in-spotlike a whirlpool for the family of changemakers to nurture our spirit (the energy of changemaking and compassion is not much present in schools. Here, we can re-focus attention)

YES! have been changing the image of the young angry activist to ... angels. Craig is nurturing the image of Shameless Idealists being super awesome.

I add one more that tunes into new recognition and support in Education.

The world is lamenting about how little youth care, how egocentric, how apathic they are. There is big clamour about empathy, ethical values, sustainable lifestyle and responsible citizenship. Okay - If so few young people possess these important traits, we have to recognise passionate, empathic, idealist youth with global horizons as Our New Highly Gifted.

Nothing has ever been more true.

This Shift of Perspective has massive implications that allow us to amplify and better establish Youth Leadership in conventional school frameworks!

Prick your ears:

By highlighting that these kids are our future Social Entrepreneurs and Cultural Creatives who are going to fix our broken societies ... (instead of being told there’s no time for their interest at school and even stigmatised as treehuggers by their peers! - Wow, what a disfunctional society!) ... we can shift to giving them the same things we already give to music and sports talents. At school!

Page 55: The YL Youth-LeadeR Handbook part 1 Welcome to a Bright New World

"Our New Highly Gifted? - pause, revelation - True. I never looked at it like this," says Joachim

Gauck, President of Germany, an ardent advocate of responsible citizenship
