Lesson Focus
• Make sure the YELLOW Face is the UP Face.
• Just like with the YELLOW cross, we are going to look for matching images to help us get to the next step.
• We will focus on the LEFT/FRONT/UP Face corner piece.

Troubleshooting
If you are unsure about the image on your cube, or if your cube doesn’t match one of the three options exactly, you might need to rotate (or turn without twisting any rows) your cube so the LEFT, UP, or FRONT face has a YELLOW piece.

REVIEW from the YELLOW Face
• Position the YELLOW cross so that it matches one of the following:
• The LEFT corner closest to you (LEFT/FRONT/UP) has a YELLOW piece on the LEFT face
• The LEFT corner closest to you (LEFT/FRONT/UP) has a YELLOW piece on the UP face.
• The LEFT corner closest to you (LEFT/FRONT/UP) has a YELLOW piece on the FRONT face.
• Use the algorithm:
• Reposition and use the same algorithm until all UP face corners are YELLOW.

Lesson Extension
• Matching the images on the YELLOW Face are the beginning steps to learning about translation, rotation, and reflection.
• Translation is when the image slides to a new place but doesn’t change.
• You can try this by placing your cube, with the any Face UP, on your desk.
• Slide the cube to the RIGHT, LEFT, FRONT, BACK, and DIAGONAL.
• It doesn’t matter which way you slide the cube, the image on the faces do not change, only the location of the cube changes.

• Reflection is when the image of one side looks the opposite on the other, like looking in a mirror
• Try to find another student whose cube is a mirror image of your own.
• Draw a mirror image of your cube on a piece of paper.

• Rotation is when the cube or Face twists around while keeping one corner in the same place. • You can try this by placing your cube, with
any Face UP, on a piece of paper.• Choose a corner and mark the spot on the
paper with a dot. • Keep the corner of the cube on the dot,
but “rotate” the rest of the cube around the dot.
• Rotations are measured by degrees. • A full rotation around the dot, back to the
original position, would be 360 degrees.
