Just as every man breathes air – fresh or foul – so doesevery man has, in himself, some qualities – good or bad.There can be no man absolutely without qualities – positive

or negative, even as there cannot be a man who does notbreathe air or even as there cannot be perfect vacuum in theworld.

It has been said that there are about thirty-six divine qualitiesand if one does not have any one of these divine qualities, onehas the opposite, i.e. the demonical traits, which as everyoneknows, result in disquiet, disease, sorrow and sufferings.

The worth of a systemMost of the people are not aware that the absence of one

or the other divine quality is the cause of human misery. They,therefore, try to find out its cause in political, economic, culturalor social system. The truth, however, is that positive ornegative qualities manifest themselves through humanbehaviour or human activity. One should, therefore, try totrace the negativity and work for optimism in human behaviourrather than search the cause elsewhere. No doubt, systemsalso matter, for they can be good or bad, but it should berealised that even their utility, worth or merit depend upon thequalities they require in human beings or the qualities theygenerate in those and other men in the society.

Take the case of an economic system in vogue in a country.If it requires shrewdness, crookedness, conceit,competitiveness, corruption and selfishness in men and womento work it, then it is surely a bad system. Also if it generatesexploitation of workers and other weaker sections, it is a badsystem. If on the other hand, a system requires, generates orpromotes honesty, cooperation and concern for social well-being, then it is a good system. A system has, therefore, to beassessed in terms of the values it promotes or requires towork itself.

We are often amazedby the indomitablenature of the human

spirit. In recent weeks, themind-boggling and terrificscenes of nature and the dramaof life, such as devastation atUttarakhand, floods in Canada,bombings in Pakistan, terroristattacks in Bodh Gaya (Bihar),Asiana Airlines crash in SanFrancisco, sudden buildingcollapses etc., have made amajority of people wonderwhere we are heading… Therehave been tragic scenes ofirreparable loss to life, property,personal memorabilia and mostimportantly, hope and positivityfor the future. For those of usfortunate to be secure in ourrespective homes, cities andcountries, our inner voicemotivates us to do ‘something’for those engulfed in despair andheartbreak. While financial andmedical aid are absolutelyessential, we who live byspirituality understand the needand power of serving souls andthe five elements with vibrations

of unconditional love andrespect. While Heads ofAdministration, SocialServices and Politics engagethemselves in discussions (andarguments!) about who needsto do what, we as a worldfamily are obligated to maketime to serve others throughthe powerful asset of ourminds.

We are greatly fortunate toreceive regular jewels ofwisdom from the Ocean ofKnowledge that inspire andguide us on the path of worldservice, especially in thesetimes of need. There is nothingmore fulfilling then the serviceof ‘self ’ and service of‘humanity’. The foundation ofsuch service consists of pureintention, a broad intellectand loving heart. Then theSupreme Father, SupremeSoul, unveils His supremeteachings to make us worthyinstruments for service.

We would like to share withour readers some powerfulnourishment for the soul, with

the faith that you will study andimbibe the same. You may usethese magnificent insights anddirections to face all challengesof life, as well as to empowerothers:

Just as you are able to seethe practical results of thepowers of speech and goodactions, in the same way,have you seen the practicalresults of silence, the mostpowerful power of all?Do you have feelings ofmercy and good wishes inyour heart to satisfy thehearts of the devotees andneedy souls?When there is upheaval inany place, show thewonder of the power ofpeace. station, similarly only whenyou have a constantly clearconnection with theSupreme can youexperience the power ofsilence. A connectionmeans to experience allrelationships with Godclearly. Only then will yousee the practical results ofthe power of the mind.The basis of enabling othersto attain everything is yourstage of being completelyignorant of limited desires.Only when you becomecompletely ignorant oflimited desires will you beable to fulfill the desires ofother souls.Emerge your form of being‘Master Seed’ of theHuman World Tree. (Just asthe Supreme Being is the All-Powerful Seed of the HumanTree, you human beings inyour soul-conscious stage are‘master seed’ encompassingall spiritual powers andattainments). Unless youbecome a master seed, theleaves (i.e. human souls ofthe World Tree) cannotreceive anything (in termsof spiritual attainments).When the Supreme AlmightyBeing tours the world and

sees the wandering ofdevotees and listens to theircalling out, He feels mercyfor them. Deities meansBestowers, so you have tobecome Bestowers ofFortune for others.The more you imbibe purityin your thoughts, wordsand deeds, the clearer yourcrown of light (aura ofpurity around your being)will become.Knowledgeable andserviceable souls shouldfast by staying beyond theupheaval of wastefulthoughts, wasteful words

and wasteful deeds. Makea vow of maintainingspirituality.Constantly sing songs ofpraise of your fortune, andof the Bestower of Fortune,and you will become full ofall virtues. Do not singsongs of your weaknesses.Go beyond all questionsand remain content withinyour heart.Create such a subtle stagethat souls who come intocontact with youexperience love andspirituality through yourform.Think more about thedevotees and needy soulsof the world now. Thinkabout fulfilling the desiresof others, and you will thenautomatically becomecomplete.We are instruments

committed to bring aboutelevated and positive change notonly in our own lives, but in thelives of countless souls in theworld. Let us rise to thischallenge and live up to thehonour of being the SupremeDivine Being’s serviceable,right hands!

Didi Manmohini was themain personresponsible for the

service from the beginning ofthis spiritual organization.Incorporeal God Shivaestablished this World SpiritualUniversity in 1937 through thecorporeal medium of DadaLekhraj, who was renamedBrahma Baba. Brahma Babaformed a Trust of kumaris andmothers, and he dedicated all hismovable and immovableproperty to these women. DidiManmohini was a prominentmember of the Trust. Since thenBaba gave severalresponsibilities concerningkumaris (spinsters) and mothersto her; she was also the specialconsultant to Mamma, the divinemother of this Yagya.

ADMINISTRATIVEENGINEER

Didi was an image ofknowledge, virtues, yoga andaffection. From 1937 until 1983,she rarely missed the Godlyversions spoken by IncorporealGod Shiva through the mediumof Prajapita Brahma. She wasa regular spiritual aspirant evenat the age of 72. She was intenseand sharp in knowledge and was

also deep in yoga. After havinga bath, she would come forAmrit Vela yoga in thegathering, and also used toconduct meditation.

EXPERT IN THESERVICE OF

TRANSFORMINGSANSKARS

Didi was an affectionate,spiritual coach. She had unique

ways of attracting others ontothe path of knowledge and yogaand knew how to transformpeople with love. Frequently,when she gifted students adiary containing pictures ofknowledge, yoga and sloganper page, she would ask him orher to open any page in thediary and read the slogan aloud.They would become child-like,revelling in her love and

affection. They would read withlots of happiness, and Didiwould tell them, ‘…this is aslogan for you from God. Is thatall-right?’ They used to reply ‘jihan’ (yes), this is very good.This slogan or version of God isfor me, this diary is very good.’

Didi would also sayencouragingly, ‘you liked, isn’tit? So now you become this!This is a gift from Shiv Baba(God Shiva). Open a page fromthe diary every day and makeefforts to imbibe that teachingor the lesson. At night, write achart to clarify your state ofmind; then you see to whatextent there is transformation inyour life. You’ll enjoy it reallybecause these are God’sversions.’ In this way, her giftworked like the philosopher’sstone. She had an art of turningpeople’s interests towards Godlyprinciples and divine love.Without question, her wordsinfluenced others positivelybecause she had alreadyadopted that practice in her lifebefore she told others.

POWER TO DISCERNDidi’s power to discern a

person was great. Like aherbalist who diagnoses adisease by reading the pulse,similarly Didi would understanda person immediately by hisface, expressions and words,and then solve his spiritualproblem. Using this specialty,

she enabled thousands of peopleto adopt a pure and yogiclifestyle, helping them moveforward. She transformed livesand inspired many mothers andkumaris so deeply that theysurrendered their life for Godlyservice, for the service ofhumankind.

ADEPT AT LETTERWRITING

Didi was also a master in theart of letter writing. Her lettersreawakened those who hadbecome slack in spiritualefforts. She rejuvenatedstudents whose spiritualendeavours had become feeble.

TIRELESS AND EVER-ZEALOUS

From the beginning, she washard-working and servedtirelessly for this organization.She sacrificed her body, mindand wealth for the benefit of thehumankind. She travelled, evenin her old age, from Assam toAbu, Kashmir to Kanyakumari,and from Kolkata to Kutch. Shealso travelled abroad. Shelooked after the comfort ofthousands of visitors who cameto Madhuban, taking them intothe depth of knowledge andgiving them love and affectionday and night.

CLEAN AND TRUEMIND

Didi valued cleanliness andtruth in the mind together with

external cleanliness. She knewthe importance of a self-sufficient life that was obedientand loyal to the Satguru, GodShiva. She woke up for AmritVela and sat in God’sremembrance and inspiredothers to do the same! In thisway, she drew attention tofollowing the daily routineproperly.

NURTURED CENTRESShe was a skilled

administrator with a sharpintellect and able to discernpeople with love, followprinciples, study regularly andserve tirelessly. From 1951-52(when service began) till 1961,she was managing the affairsof the Yagya. When BrahmaBaba became Avyakt in 1969,she along with DadiPrakashmani managed theadministration of the yagya.Didi would say. ‘We both havetwo bodies but there is one soul.’With God’s protection andtraining, and their ableadministration, this organizationprogressed rapidly and by 1983,there were 1150 centres andsub-centres throughout theworld.

Didi accentuated the need forthe pilgrimage of remembranceand in every lecture or class, sheused to say, ‘…ab ghar jaanahai (it’s time to go back homenow)…’ She would remind

students to remain light, forgetall old things, never see others’defects, see only qualities inothers and follow Shrimat.

SKILLEDADMINISTRATOR

Didi’s life revealed divinevirtues at their pinnacle. Sheworked with great spirit andenergy even at the age of 72.When thousands of peoplecame to Madhuban (Mt. Abu)from different parts of Bharator abroad, the burgeoningresponsibility, which could bedaunting for many youngerpeople, was managed easily andwith love by Didi and DadiPrakashmani. Problems weresolved quickly and teams werewell informed about the day-to-day activities and duties.

She would take a round ofentire Madhuban in the morningand give suggestions or advicein the kitchen or otherdepartments. Everyone wassatisfied with her. Sheunderstood difficulties and gaveappropriate solutions, inspiringpeople to face challengessmoothly. When seniorgovernment officers andbusiness managers came toMadhuban, they wereimpressed by the managementand often expressed this to Didiand Dadiji, enquiring how theyfound no upheaval, no noise, nostress or tension, no work

stagnation etc. Seeing howtasks were well managed andorganized with peace, mutuallove and feeling for service,these visitors would remark,‘…if anyone has to learnadministration, learn from theseBrahma Kumaris.’

LIFE OFRENUNCIATION

Although Didi was born in awealthy family, she was verysimple and ordinary in her food,clothing etc., and lived the sameway as others in Yagya. Shewas never proud of her worldlyclan, wealth, or property etc.She never ever remembered herlaukik privileges, comforts andhappiness. She was simple andan image of renunciation.Whatever she had, she wouldgive it away as a gift and bindthe person in God’s love. Shenever used those things forherself.

MODESTYDidi Manmohini, along with

Dadi Prakashmani, looked afterBaba’s task. Besides, she hadmany rights. However, shenever talked to anyone with theego of her position or expressedher rights in any way. Instead,when someone did not behaveas per the spiritual disciplines,she still gave them the motherlyaffection so that the personwouldn’t drift away from thespiritual path. If someone sulked

or got upset, she would adapther responses with great humilityand love so as to ensure hernurture would keep thatperson’s intellect constantlyconnected with Shiv Baba.

Didi was never stubborn,blaming ‘so and so’ person,thinking of it as a mistake andquestioning why she should talkto that person.’ Instead, Didipersonally went to that personto cool him down: ‘brother, ifyou have anything in your mind,remove those thoughts; we aretravelling in the same boattowards the same destination.We all have a spiritualrelationship with this divinefamily. I have good wishes foryou in my mind.’ It would beappropriate to mention in thiscontext that Didi loved this song(translated from the Hindi),which small children sing:I am a soul, you are a soul.

We are thus brothers all.Baba says: Do not fight.

Take knowledge and be alight.

Didi had a special art ofhelping people feel close toBaba, nurturing this sense ofbelonging. She could insist withlove that they stop their badhabits. She had a magneticpersonality. No-one was afraidto talk to her; people werepulled towards her lovingvibrations and Didi used to

inspire them to keep movingforward spiritually. People whomet her regularly, rarely wentastray spiritually. While she wassick, the surgeon treating heralso accepted her as his mother.

Besides being a lovingpersonality, she used to remaindetached to the same extent aswell.

HUMOURDidi wasn’t just the image of

tapasya but she also lovedhumour. She used to share andlisten to jokes but those jokeswere that uplifted the spirit ofeveryone. She had a childlikenature—very simple hearted—and loved to laugh.

SOUL-CONSCIOUSShe slept very little. She used

to renounce her sleep at nightand meditate personally.Sometimes, she used to wakeup very early in the morning.She paid a lot of specialattention to Godlyremembrance. She inspiredeveryone to have the habit tobe soul-conscious andremember God. If someone wassick and people discussed theirillness time and time again withthe patient, Didi would remindthem not to speak about theirbody. She shared, ‘If you stayin Baba’s remembrance, thepain of the body will finish.’

HER LAST MOMENTSDidi was true to her own

word. When she washospitalised, she remained inBaba’s remembrance,reassuring the doctors thatalthough there might besomething wrong with thebody, her mind was notunwell.

Nurses had special lovefor her. She shared jewelsof Godly knowledge withthem, introducing Baba andsaying, ‘Om Shanti; do youremember Shiva Baba’ toeveryone who came to meether. Hospital staff sharedthat the hospital ward hadbecome a satsang! Didimade atmosphere spiritualthrough her actions. Herdrishti was filled withstrength and her lessonswere inspiring.

For quite sometime, shewas unwell. Shiv Baba said,‘…she is not on the bed butshe is planning. She is notsuffering but she is on aproject.’ Baba also sharedthat Didi has a primary rolein laying the foundation ofgolden-aged pure worldthrough yoga power.

Still today, every BrahmaKumar and Brahma Kumarihas limitless love for Didi.Leaving her mortal coil wasviewed as an opportunity tolift their spiritual efforts tonew divine heights.

Can you hear the cries of souls lost in time? Outstretched and tired arms from the darkReaching out to mere spiritual flicker of light

The songs and poems and stories of centuries pastAnd hope sustained by tales spoken and promises made.

In darkness they searched for the phantom of hope

And kneeled before images of dreams and mythNo substance, nothing real but shadows spentThe unending journey of quest and pilgrimage

Stories of hope and trickle of peace gave strength

Tired souls lost in varied path and darknessExpanded pain with divided and varied path

Search continued and leaders changed and stories too.The spirit of souls strong to find the source

Braved the wrath of tempests and waves of obstacles

And they searched till the flicker of dawn of hopeAnd rejoiced with little or fabled dreams to stay

As visions changed, belief and the tide of hope ebbedLike waves, they came and went and left naught

Tired souls craved for one drop to keep their lamp lit

And the Father heard the cries of pain and granted visionsIf not all, a few may learn to play their New Role

And the chapter changed, the Beloved Father came as promised Darkest night now about spent to welcome the golden dawn

Original and First ancestor-soul touched and the torch lit

The Sweet Father entered and lit the wick of the nearly out lightsThe fuel of knowledge was poured to all souls – His sweet children

However, many with eyes impaired in ignorance and misledFeared the Truth, and entangled in bondage with darkness

Their lamps only flickering, Father still sustained them

Nothing is in human hands;He is responsible for doingeverything but the humanbeing has to be the one whois capable.

He is the One who is ableto add value to human life.

We have a list of 12essential values that are thefoundation for human life and8 spiritual powers. In order todevelop values in my life, Ineed spiritual power.

How is it that I catch God’sinspirations? The intellect hasto be clean. The line has to bevery clear. Then theinspiration comes. It will comesuddenly.

Sometimes we say it isinspiration from above but itis ego. ‘Catching power’...‘Touching power’...Babauses these expressions. Thereis a touching that comes and Ishould possess the ability tocatch it.

On a subtle level, I makesure that I am careful not toengage myself internally in

anything. If He wants to dosomething and I am engagedsomewhere else, would thegoal be achieved?

I have to be able to say‘Yes indeed’ and then He isalways available for me. TheLord is available and presentfor us when we are obedient.

It is God’s orders that aremaking me move. When theorder comes I obey. I thinkGod has faith in me that I cando something.

When the child hascourage, the Father rendershelp. This is my experience.Don’t think, just havecourage. I need to keep myintellect so clear that whenHe gives me a touching I amable to do it. He gets hiswork done through me andmany others.

The one who becomes aninstrument has to have nodesire for honour or respect.No desire at all. If there isthe slightest desire forrespect, we are sure to feel

bad.Let the name and the glory

be His and yes, I will be hereto do the work. I want Hisname to be glorified becauseHe is doing it all.

Let Him have faith in me.One also needs to have faithin the self and very deep faithin God.

This world and our life hereis a wonderful story.

A secret: The whole taskof the destruction ofunrighteousness and theestablishment ofrighteousness is done throughthe power of faith. God isactually engaged in putting anend to unrighteousness sothat truth can be re-established.

I have to make sure thesoul stays very clean and thethings of the world don’ttouch it.

Cleanliness, honesty andsimplicity are what we needin a practical way in life tomake it easy for God to workon us.

INSPIRED BY GOD’SLOVE

[Sister Jayanti shared that Rajyogini Dadi Janki Ji has manyinspirations and acts very spontaneously, that we experience theright thing at the right time. Is it God’s inspiration? Always remain alert andbelong to the army of thosewho have faith.

Stay in inner solitude andgo into the depth of One andin this state of introversion.

There are the three armies;the ones who are concernedwith status and honour, theones who are deeply involvedwith science and the oneswho are accurate and alertand available for any type ofGodly service. Which armydo you come from?

We just need to beavailable and ready with ‘Yes’on our lips.

God is the One whoinspires and we have to doHis tasks without excuse.

Use thoughts and time in aworthwhile way.

Sit with God and givevibrations of peace to theWorld.

Firstly remain silent andsecondly get lost in His loveand thirdly give goodvibrations to the world andkeep your mind elevated.

Each one of us needs to write a letter to ourselves everyday – a letter on how to live life to the fullest.

Trust and believe in yourself. Forget the past and focus onthe “PRESENT MOMENT” – “NOW” – Instead of saying “I amnowhere” in times of your challenges and difficulties, you sayto yourself, “Now-here. Now, I am here”. So, live the presentmoment. Live your life here and now. Let go of the past, it hasno place in the present. Everything that we do right now iscreating our future. So, LIVE now, CREATE now, BE HERENOW. Be AWARE of your thoughts and feelings. You are theMASTER and CREATOR of thoughts, responses and yourDESTINY. When something happens, don’t ask why ithappened; ask how you handled it when it happened. CHOOSEto focus your energy on positive thoughts and responses.RESPOND and not REACT.

TRUST yourself. Trust your instincts and your intuition.BELIEVE in your innate wisdom, the voice of your inner selfwhich will lovingly guide you along life’s path, no matter theobstacle, through all the ups and downs. All you need is aCLEAR and CLEAN mind and you will have access to all theanswers you need. “REMEMBER” and be aware and consciousof who you are. Remember your true nature and then chooseyour thoughts and actions.

Give your mind “Positive reinforcement” and “Affirmations”.If you believe, you will receive. Believe that you are alreadyreceiving what you want in life—money, success, wealth,prosperity, happiness.

Whatever you ask for, you shall receive. “ASK-BELIEVE-RECEIVE”. Follow this mantra every day. ‘Ask’ is easy,‘Receive’, is easy but 'Believe' can be difficult. Stop thinking: ‘Icannot do it.’ Think: ‘Everything is possible for me.’ You haveto believe that whatever you want is already yours now, andwith that you have to feel happy and peaceful. Because whenyou spread these good vibrations, you automatically startreceiving.

Thank everyone and bless everyone. Love everyone. Love isthe key to heal your inner self,i.e.,soul. Love yourself. Withoutloving yourself, you cannot love anyone, not even God. Do atleast one thing every day to make the soul dance withhappiness. And don’t forget to send your smile to others.

Often the picture of awarrior conjures upimages of a battered

and wounded soldier, breathlessand exasperated! But the imageof a spiritual warrior issomewhat different!

A spiritual warrior is alwaysready and prepared to meet anychallenge with alacrity. He hasno fear, just love and lightness.Spiritual warrior is balanced –grounded and firm. He nevertires because he never getswounded. Unlike the otherwarriors, he smiles in the faceof uncertainty and evencalamity!

The spiritual warrior walkswith pride and confidence. Evenbefore he begins, he knowsvictory is guaranteed. No taskis too great or prodigiousbecause he has cultivated suchinner self-respect and a big openheart that is willing andgenerous.

He is never distracted or sidetracked; lazy or careless. Hecannot even indulge in vanity forthe warrior knows that to losefocus for even a moment wouldallow the enemy to gain ground!

Spiritual warriors are braveand courageous. They keep

themselves protected with theshield or aura of God’s Divinelight. Their feet hardly touchthe ground and their “artillery”is always on hand.

The weapons of a spiritualwarrior are not the usual onesmade of stone, wood, metal orgunpowder. They flex themuscles of their mind with theinner powers – the power toface, to adjust, to discern, towithdraw, to cooperate, to letgo and move on whennecessary. They also ensurethey are full of inner beauty:lightness, kindness, generosity,humility, benevolence,compassion, beauty and more.And most of all, they alwayscarry with them the ‘weapons’of love, peace, truth, bliss andpurity. Of course, these toolsneed sharpening from time totime through meditation.

Spiritual warriors are knownto go through “spiritual deaths”.One such death is ego, anotheris attachment. Learning to“die” is a ‘give in’ on thespiritual journey, in fact it iswhen we have truly died, thatwe can really awaken and live.Therefore, the battle is not withthe enemy out there, but with

the one within. Once I have“killed” or for sake of semantics,transformed myself,metamorphosed myself, thenthere is no battle left to fight.For example, if you don’t havean ego, no one can dent or crushyour ego. If there is noattachment, no one can give youpain!

This is illustrated well in theBhagavad Gita.

The whole Gita is a dialoguebetween Lord Krishna andArjuna, the greatest archerever. They are standing in themiddle of a huge battlefield andArjuna, having won the firstchoice, chooses to have LordKrishna by his side and his rivalcousin Duroydhana, hasaccepted what would have beenhis first choice anyway, thewhole army.

Arjuna, seeing that hisenemies are his relatives andloved ones, becomes weak-kneed and refuses to fight. It isthen that Lord Krishna beginsby giving him knowledge andinspiration of various kinds. Oneof the last significant statementsis when Lord Krishna explains,“Whether you kill them in yourmind or on the battlefield, it isthe same thing.” Lord Krishnawas urging him to fight, not theviolent battle, but the internalone of the web of attachment.

of a ‘vein’. The vein channels the blood,the life force, from one organ to another.In the same manner, the ‘blood ofattachment’ affects all those to whom youare attached. If something happens to you,it is as though it is happening to them, suchis the influence of the attachment.

Arjuna was a spiritual warrior. The verymeaning of his name is the one who cannotbe defeated. We are all being called on tobe Arjuna, the spiritual warriors who arenot defeated by life’s trivial games.

After having conquered our attachmentto people, money and possessions, food andtaste buds, clothes and comforts, our finalbattle will be with our attachment andidentification with our body. The ‘departure’needs to be so smooth and natural, asfamiliar as a mini-meditation. The feelingis of moving from one floor to another –from this worldly plane to another. No tugof war, no pull of the body, people orcomforts and absolutely no pain – the soulsimply flies on.

Meditation is, in fact, like a mini death.We learn to separate from theconsciousness of this body and fly beyondto our Home of Light. The more wepractise this, the more in fact, our “battles”will reduce!

Its time… to look within and seek outthe enemy. The spiritual warrior blamesnobody, and takes full responsibility for theself and the battlefield he has found himselfin. Cut those veins of attachment that drainso much energy from the soul, kill the ego,become light and most of all learn to smilebecause you are that Arjuna and yourvictory is guaranteed!

Sometime in the month ofFebruary 2013, Ihappened to watch a TV

program ‘Awakening withBrahma Kumaris’ and liked it somuch that I made it a point towatch it every day. I wasamazed with the kind of insightand clarity sister Shivani has inspirituality but it was moreappealing to me because whatshe shared matched with mybelief system as well. Soon, Istarted looking out for a B.K.Centre to learn more about theorganization and its ideology. Isaw a board of Brahma Kumarison a residential flat near myresidence.

One fine Sunday evening Ireached there, knocked at thedoor, and waited patiently for awhile. A gentleman namedB.K.Ramesh opened the doorand when I mentioned theintention of my visit, he calledme inside. He informed that itwas a Gita Pathshala (Sub-centre) of the Brahma Kumarisorganisation run by him. Wediscussed certain aspects of thespiritual knowledge and heinvited me to learn Seven–Daycourse of Rajyoga Meditation,of one-hour duration daily.

The next day, April 15, Ireached the Gita Pathsala at 7a.m. to join the course. Iattended it very earnestly. Aftercompleting the course, I wastold that I could attend Murliclass. I also came to know thatMurlis are the direct words orversions of Incorporeal GodShiva, i.e., Shiv Baba, spokenthrough the corporeal mediumof Brahma Baba and Murli foreach day is different.Moreover, the same Murli isread out in all the centres ofBrahma Kumaris across theglobe, every day. I was also toldthat the aspirants or spiritualseekers find answer to theirqueries in the Murlis and Imight find answer to myquestions in these Murlis itself.Though the Murlis had beenspoken long before, they areactually read out on a particularday. I had a question in mymind as to how one couldanticipate the questions andconcerns of people and designMurlis to suit to their needs. Butagain that question doesn’tarise if you believe that theMurlis have come straight fromthe wisdom of the all knowingGod Himself. Besides, it is

also a firm belief of theorganisation that history andgeography of the world arecyclic in nature and repeatidentically after every 5000years.

On 28th April, which was justmy second day in Murli class, Iasked Bro. Ramesh, before thestart of the class, a question asto ‘who are considered thesurrendered souls. After havinganswered my question, Bro.Ramesh started reading theMurli and to my astonishment,the essence of that day’s Murliwas the same which I hadasked him before.

This affirmed my belief thatin Murlis, we can find answersto our deepest concerns orquestions. I have never believedin coincidence and instead,always believe that anything andeverything that happens,happens for a reason andbecause it has to happen.

We discussed this incidentand it has been clarified thatwhenever you establish aconnection with the Supremesoul, what you think about or askHim gets communicated to Himand accordingly you get aresponse from Him. As you goon making your connectionstronger and stronger with ShivBaba, the Supreme Soul or God,you’ll have such experiences ona regular basis.

We commence thisjourney by making our mental and intellectualconnection with the Supreme Soul and as wego along, our connection and relation with Himgo on becoming stronger. increasing. Nobody can escapefrom the negative influence ofthe atmosphere of this world.The human and naturalenvironment is polluted,criminalised and has becomealmost intolerable. Nature hasbeen cruel. This year’s hotclimate has put people into alabyrinthine surrounding. It isunprecedented. Based on ourexperiences over the years, theintensity of the hot weather hasbeen on the increase year afteryear. Many right thinking peopleare seen to be lamenting overthe state of affairs of the world.But, there is very littlecontribution on their part toameliorate the appallingconditions of the world. Thereare many people who are verygood. But, they possess whatcan be called inactive goodness.They think what difference itmakes in case they start doingsomething to improve theconditions of the world. They donot realise that they should take

the lead to transform thesituations. Instead ofunderstanding this aspect, theyblame other people for thesituations occurring in theworld. In fact, the contributionsto provide a soothing effectshould start from each one ofus. We normally take a decisionbased on the present time.Quick fix solutions are the orderof this world. We are in a worldof ‘problem-solution, problem-solution’ syndrome. Theconsequences of such solutionsare seldom thought of or lookedinto. Nobody has time to thinkof the reason for the unpleasantsituations emerging before us.Similarly, we try to judge aperson based on his lone act ofmisdemeanour which hascome to our notice now. Wehave not tried to go into his past,which may be because of theinjustice meted out to him on anumber of occasions forcinghim to act like this. It is herethat we should be able to lookat the three aspects of time-being in the attitude of‘trikaldarshi’ and understand

the consequences of our actionin the present, past and futurewhile being in the present. Thenonly we will be able to dispensejustice and also safeguardourselves from inflicting injuriesto those who are alreadywounded and seeking justice.

In order to be atrikaldarshi, some points ofknowledge and experienceare shared through thefollowing lines.

Be free from exaggerationand question mark.Normally if anything

negative happens, we arecaught in a series of questionmarks and exclamations –‘How’, ‘why’, ‘what’, ‘who’and so on. This creates a lotof wasteful and negativethoughts. These thoughtscreate vibrations of uncertaintyand restlessness in theatmosphere. Sometimes weare not ready to accept whathas happened. This resistanceadversely affects peacefulsolutions to the problems. Weshould know that questions andexclamation marks do notsolve problems. All bad andgood situations are broughtabout by us. We areresponsible for what happensto us. We need to accumulatethe power to face and acceptsituations as they are. This helpsus to face the consequencesand move forward.

Be a witness and avoidhasty actions.It is observed that normally

we react in haste in negativesituations which end up infurther complications. Suchsituations call for caution andattention to understand whatexactly has happened. Weshould have the stage of beinga detached observer where weexperience and witness everyscene as though we haverepeatedly seen it many times.In this mindset, we freeourselves from the negativeinfluences of the situations.Unless, we detach ourselvesfrom the event, we cannotempower ourselves to handlesuch situations successfully. Itis not at all advisable to doanything in haste. As the sayinggoes haste makes waste.

Converge at the rightperceptionOur perception of a situation

and the people involved in thesituation get distorted throughthe influence of our childhoodexperiences, our company offriends and family members,our peers, teachers, oureducation, our past experiencein life and the field we work andso on. Unless we have theright perception, our response tothe situation will get distorted tothat extent whereby our powerof discrimination and judgement

will also get blurred. We willmisinterpret the situation. Wecannot analyse the situationproperly and therefore wecannot be trikaldarshis. Inorder to come to the rightperception, we must upliftourselves from the external andinternal influences and stabiliseourselves in soul-consciousnessand God-consciousness.

Foresee the consequencesBefore initiating any

response, it is necessary for usto understand the consequencesof our action in advance. Oncethe action is initiated, it will notbe possible to alter it. Hence,based on our experiences overthe years and also with thepower of knowledge, we canunderstand the result of ouraction. While initiating action,it is necessary for us to analysethe pros and cons of the result.For example, someone may getangry instantly. This is because,that person has not properlyanalysed the situation andforeseen the consequences ofthe action of being angry. To betrikaldarshi means to have theawareness of past, present andfuture and performing actionsaccordingly. To see in the pastwhere you slipped up; to bemore careful in the present andnot create opposite to what youwant in the future– You knowthat if you get angry, others will

also react and this is not whatyou want; and to see the futureas the goal that has to beachieved by working in thepresent. Those of us who arein the spiritual path also knowthat we are the in auspiciousConfluence Age. We can seethe three aspects of time in thecycle of creation. We arelooking at the Iron Age on theone side and on the other sidewe are looking at the GoldenAge while being in theauspicious Confluence Age.Seeing the contrasts allows usto discern and decide where todirect our attention and focusour creative energy. We knowthat our virtuous actions in theauspicious Confluence Age willreap fruits for 21 births inGolden and Silver ages.

Maintain silence of themindThis is one of the most

important attitudes we shouldcreate in order to be atrikaldarshi. The silence of themind creates freedom for theself to foresee the three aspectsof time clearly. When the mindis silent and uncluttered,everything becomes clear inthat stillness. This helps us toremain in the present whileseeing the past with much moreunderstanding and the futurewith a sense of hope andenthusiasm. We will not be

trapped in the vagaries of themind and neither jump to anykind of wrong conclusions.When there is silence in themind, we can also discriminateand judge men and mattersproperly. We will be able toforesee the three aspects oftime, the consequences at thebeginning, middle and end ofan action. Rajyoga meditationhelps one to generate thepower of silence.

Karma philosophyWe are all very well aware

of the philosophy of karma.Our karma decides what weshould be in life. All of usknow that as ‘we sow so shallwe reap’. Right from the actof thinking to theaccomplishment of any task,we are sowing the seed ofaction in the field of life.Therefore, we need to beaware that the seed should beof good quality. Our thoughts,words and actions should notdisturb the peace and wellbeing of others. As and whenwe start sowing, we shouldlook into it that very goodquality seeds are selected andsown so that very goodquality fruits are reaped. Wecan decide, shape and createthe best future for us when wesow the seed of action. Thuswe will have control over our

future. Trikaldarshi is onewho is practically regulatingthe passage of three aspectsof time. He understands thatall actions are performed in thecontext of the consequencesof past actions performed inthis life or in the distant pastof previous life time.Sometimes we do not see theconnections but one who is atrikaldarshi recognizes thatwhat we are experiencing arethe results of actions or a setof actions we did in our pastor are continuing to do in thepresent and what we do in thepresent also has relevance towhat we will experience in thefuture. We need to realize thatthe past and the future arehidden in the present. Theonly real time we have forcreating our future is thepresent. We can create thefuture of our choice of love,peace and happiness. Theknowledge of karma teachesus that we are not only thecreators of our little world butalso the partners or helpers ofGod in co-creating a world oftomorrow, a world of peace,love and purity. This realizationmakes us self-contented anda carefree emperor becausewe know that what hashappened is good, what isgoing on is good and what is

going to happen is also good.When we are Trikaldarshiwe perform elevated karma isa way that we constantly growspiritually with enthusiasm andzeal.

Learn from experiencesOur life experiences over the

years have taught us that ourhasty, thoughtless and rashactions have created unpleasantand miserable situations in ourlife. It has perhaps happenedmany times. Our experienceshave taught us the best lessonsespecially in dealing with menand matters. Normally, peoplethink constructively aftersomething has gone wrong. Firstthey will do whatever they wantto do and then they start thinkingwhen things go wrong. Nowwe are convinced that it isnecessary to be a trikaldarshiright from the stage of thinking.The pain and pangs are thesignals that life offers us. Weneed to learn from them andunderstand them if we want totravel well ahead. As has beenbeautifully said: “I am strongbecause I know myweaknesses. I loveunconditionally because I havehad hate directed towards me. Iam wise because I’ve beenfoolish. Everything I have livedthrough has taught me lessons”.

Man has often found itdifficult to reconcilewith the concepts of

‘Karma’ and the ‘Law ofDestiny’, they seemdiametrically opposed to eachother. They think that wherethere is a question of destiny, thelaw of Karma cannot beapplicable. Let us, at the outset,understand that the origin of allactions i.e. Karma is in thought.In fact, Karma is the thought inits practical or material shape.Once an action is performed, theeffect or the result is bound tofollow. As Newton’s law alsostates “Every action has anequal and opposite reaction”,meaning thereby that a Karmamust be followed by its result.

To further clarify the integralrelation of Karma and destiny,we need to understand theconcept of soul. The soulfunctions only through themedium of our body. It uses oursensory organs to perform anyaction, howsoever subtle it maybe. And whatever the soul does,by way of actions, it must getthe reward or punishment forthat. The consequences of anaction are inescapable whateverbe the type of action i.e.

Sukarma, Vikarma or Akarma(Positive, Negative or NeutralAction). Hence it may be saidthat Karma and Destiny areintegral part of humanexistence on this earth and notopposed to each other as oftenthought.

Something that the commonpeople often forget in their viewof the destiny vis-à-vis karmais the motive of the doer behindany action. Seemingly, an actof charity may not be so whenviewed from the intentions ofthe doer. Very often in ourpresent day materialistic world,we are witness to such actswhich may seem useful andbenevolent to common peoplebut are done with an intentionof avoiding income-tax or evenwith the intention of humiliatingone’s business rivals and so on.In such a case, should weappreciate such an act as godlyor deserving of God’s blessingsas some other act done with aclean heart and purest ofintentions? Naturally theconclusions that we often drawin such cases of someone’smaterial sufferings may bebiased with what appears onthe surface as we might have

viewed one’s present seeminglife and we may have missedthe motives and intentionsbehind deeds of such a soul.

On the other hand, we alsohave a tendency of growingindifferent to any situation whichseems to be beyond ourcomprehension. We often giveup the initiative of strong,rational and meaningful actionsaying that it is our destiny tosuffer. Of course our pastKarma influences our presentstate of life yet inaction on ourpart is not the solution to anysituation. Apparently there mayseem to be no reason for ourpresent sufferings, or joys forthat matter, but it cannot be saidthat we are ‘doomed to destinywhich is out to punish us for nofault of ours’. Sometimes wesee ourselves as victims ofdestiny or of a cruel fate. But itis not that things just happen tous; they happen because of us.It shall not be wrong to say thatour present is based on our pastactions and our present woulddetermine our future.

In other words, we may saythat the theory of Karma andthat of the Destiny are not assimple as they are taken to be.The law of destiny is based onall our actions that we performin the course of the Kalpa cycleand naturally one keepsperforming actions from onebirth to another. Moreover, if

we could remember theactions of our past births or inother words, if we could knowour future on the basis of thoseactions of the past, life wouldbe meaningless. Yet we allperform one or the otheraction, good or bad or evenneutral, with the knowledgethat it will reap results in thecoming future. No one doeseven the smallest fraction of anaction with an assurance thatthere will be no result of thataction anywhere. So when theholy men tell us to performpure, good and benevolentactions, they mean that weshould avoid all those actionswhich may entail painful resultsin the further.

Destiny is nothing but thesum total of the consequencesof all our deeds presented tous in a coherent form ofsituations and conditionsinvolving many other personsas well. However, it is man’sactions, their quality as well asquantum that lead to one’sfuture life and also have a deepimpact on his thoughts, wordsand actions. We often find that

people lose their temper, butsoon afterwards they lamentand apologise. In such a casetheir action (anger) determinestheir future thought and action(apology). In simple manner itis the action that created thecause of future event i.e. one’sdestiny and this destiny in turnagain becomes the cause offuture action. So, one may saythat the whole concept ofaction and destiny isintertwined and complex.

Now the question would bewhat should one do? Whatshould be one’s approach to anyor each of his actions? In fact,being a Karma Yogi, or an idealperformer, is not as difficult aswe often think. If we performour actions in remembrance ofGod and also with a view tomaintain our relations with Himas intimate, joyful andproductive, there is no reasonthat man would have any doubtsabout the cordiality ormeaningfulness of his actions.Presuming God to be anobserver of all our actions wouldkeep us on the right pathautomatically and without much

strain on our mind regarding howour destiny will unfold.

One thing that comes outfrom the above situation of adoer is that one’s actions wouldbecome ‘actions withoutlabour’. When one feelscontented that he or she isperforming all actions under theobservation and directions ofnone else but God, it will notinvolve any tiring effort toaccomplish. A karmayogi’sactions would also be withoutany bondage of the body. Sinceall his actions are under thedirect supervision of God, therecan be no bondage nor canthere be any displeasure,whatever the nature of hisactions.

In nutshell, a Karmayogi fillshimself with power whichtransforms his actions from thematerial to the divine; it alsoleads to a change in hissanskars. He also attemptsthrough his actions to drawupon the qualities of theSupreme. Thus, he not onlyrises above the mundane butalso tends to display in hisactions the ideal traits of adivine personality.

We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God isthe friend of silence. See how nature – trees, flowers, grass – grows in silencesee the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence...we need silenceto be able to touch souls.

Generally people greeteach other with“Hello”, Namaste”,

“Namaskar” and so on, as pertheir culture or society.However, the students ofPrajapita Brahma KumarisIshwariya Vishwa Vidyalayagreet and address everyonewith “Om Shanti”. This two-word address has a place ofimmense importance in Indianculture and its literature.

The word “Om Shanti” notonly reminds us that we are“Peaceful and Pure Souls” butalso brings to our knowledge thatwe are the most belovedChildren of our Supreme Father,God Shiva. He is an incorporealPoint of Light, the Almighty,whom we call “Shiv Baba”.

When we come to know thatHe is our Father, there is no needof praying for His love, beggingHim to help us, pleading for Hismercy upon us or requestingHim to fulfill our wants or tobless us with health, wealth andhappiness etc., in life.

Praying and pleading God forprotection prove that we do nothave faith and confidence inHim. It shows that there is an

element of uncertainty andwavering of faith in Him. Weremain doubtful with thoughts– “my work will be done ornot”, “my problem will getsolved or not”, “whether I willbe successful or not” and so on.Normally the children in thecompany of their worldly fatherare least bothered aboutanything and always remaincarefree and happy. Then asthe Children of the SupremeFather, there is no question offear at all in our life becausewe know He is always with us.We know it is our birth right toget everything from our DivineFather.

As we remind ourselves thatwe are the direct children ofGod, it gives us a sense ofbelonging. I belong to theFather and He belongs to me.So, pronouncing “Om Shanti”with understanding brings somuch of confidence in us. Itreminds us of our own eternalform and helps to remain in theconsciousness and awarenessof our divine relationship withthe Supreme. It is not the signof any cult.

The greeting ‘Sat Sri Akal’

indicates that the speakercomes from a Sikh family;‘Namastey’ denotes thespeaker is Hindu ; ‘Asallaam-ale-kum’ brings to mind theMuslim culture. However, “OmShanti” reveals that “I am a pureSoul, ever in peace”. It makesus “soul-conscious” and andopens our Spiritual Heart to theentire universe and makes uscompassionate for the wholemankind. We can extend thehealing power of love and peaceto the mankind trapped in thevicious slush of mental andphysical sufferings. Theelements of nature have also losttheir balance. The whole worldhas become chaotic and sits onthe dangerous dump ofammunitions which may turnthe Earth into fragments anytime.

It is, therefore, high time toserve the world. Sincephysically it may not be possibleon such a large scale, thepurpose can be achieved onlythrough our soul-consciousstate.

When we are soul-conscious,we consider all souls to bechildren of God, we develop thefeeling of a family whereeveryone belongs to oneanother. In the soul-consciousstate we can send our thoughtvibrations full of love andkindness to the entire globe, thushealing the nature and the

Since we say “Om shanti”, wefirst of all have to understandthe meaning of the word “Om”

in the real sense. When we askpeople, they give a long andcomplicated meaning of the word“Om”. Many people chant “Om” verylong and loudly. They have even madea huge scripture on “Om” but, in fact,the meaning of “0m” is not so long and complicated.God Himself has explained to us a very simple and easymeaning of “Om”. That meaning is explained to us byGod so that we can meet Him. God clearly says: Children,the meaning of Om is: I am a soul and my original religionis that of being an embodiment of peace. We now haveto remain stable in the meaning of Om. Om means: I,the soul, am a child of God. The main thing is that wesimply have to stabilise ourselves in the meaning of“Om”, not just recite “Om” loudly. This has to be retainedin the intellect. You have to remain stable in the meaningof “Om”. Although those people give a long explanationof the word “Om”, they do not remain stable in that form.However, we know the form of Om and that is why weare able to remain stable in that form. We also knowthat God is the Seed form and that we have now receivedall the knowledge of how God, the Seed, has createdthe whole tree.

Born and brought up in aHindu family, I got myeducation in

Hyderabad. Since my childhood,I have been inclined towardsreligion and righteous way oflife. I believed in the unity ofmankind and would visit holyplaces of all religions. As a child,I often used to think thatperforming good deeds anddoing charity is something thathumanity needs today. Thesesanskars helped me take therole of an active social workerin my childhood itself. Anelectrical engineer byqualification and an analyst byprofession, I have beenemployed in an international I.T.organization for about eightyears.

Though I had been listeningto sister Shivani on AasthaChannel since 2008, it wasactually in October 2010 whenI finally decided to visit theBrahma Kumaris, in a perplexedstate of mind. I had reached adepression and all I needed wassome peace of mind and strengthto cope with the existingsituation. The first lesson on

soul, during the Seven-Daycourse, was easy to understandas I had already read the Gitaa couple of times. What seemedto me the herculean task wassitting in yoga. As soon as B.K.sister would start acommentary on the soul, Iwould start getting restless andI could not concentrate at all.The commentary lasted for fiveminutes which it appeared likefive hours to me. Such was mymental state.

I would sit in Baba’s roomand cry, hoping and praying forthings to change and improve.Meditation was a tough nut tocrack. I could not slow downmy thoughts. Over time, thingsstarted getting better. I foundsolace in Baba’s gyan.Situations remained the samebut I found myself lessdisturbed. Now, I had startedenjoying yoga. Yoga helps thesoul stay calm, avoid wastethoughts and remain steadfastand strong internally. I startedlooking forward to visiting thecenter and sitting in Baba’sroom to enjoy His company. Iwas in love with Baba, Murlis,

yoga and the divine family.Within three months, I was adifferent person—totally out ofdepression and very happy withlife. People around me startedcommenting that I had becomecalm. After regular practice ofyoga, I started getting lessimpacted by the negativity inoutside world. I found that mypowers to tolerate and co-operate were increasing, evenwhen others’ behavior was notappropriate. Now, with betterunderstanding and regularchurning of knowledge, I havebecome stable and less proneto mood swings. Earlier when Iwould see outrageous sceneson television or would readviolent cases in the newspaper,I would get very disturbed.Now that I realize this is a partof Drama which is fair andperfect, I find myself muchmore compassionate anddetached.

With time the challenges inlife took a new shape. FollowingShrimat was getting difficult asmy parents are not in gyan.Satvic food, without onion andgarlic, was difficult to get. Withlong office hours at times I findit a little difficult to come homeand cook. However, over timeI ensured that I take only Satvicfood as I noticed that non satvicfood impacts yoga. To haveharmony at home, I cook for thefamily whenever possible, in

Baba’s remembrance and try to remain morepatient and tolerant. At times, I need to go to bedlate due to long office meetings and work. I,therefore, find it difficult to get up for yoga duringAmritvela. In such cases, I meditate as soon as Iwake up.

When I came to the Brahma Kumaris, I wassearching for peace. I wanted to get rid of themental turbulence and needless to say I came tothe right place for the right thing. I found supportfrom God. What else could I have asked for then?Now, sometimes I am thrilled with the love andaffection I get from the B.K. family but sometimesI also miss the worldly attractions such as enjoyingparty food etc. In one of the Avaykt Murlis, Babahad asked if the limited attainments of Maya stillattract children. I confess that in my case, it does.I, however try to keep myself away from Maya’sattractions. I know I have a long way to go andhave to make constant effort. Whenever I fail inmy efforts or I don’t live up to my expectations, Ilook at waves. Waves are inspiring not becausethey rise and fall but each time they fall, they neverfail to rise again.

I find myself in a dilemma when I think aboutfuture. Working for an MNC does not give meenough time to devote to Baba’s service. However,I have decided to leave it to Drama and focus onpreparing for Baba Milan in the coming season. Ihave decided to do the homework given byBapDada diligently, to enjoy the forthcoming Milanas much as I can. Morning yoga, reading theMurlis, traffic control, and night chart and satvicfood is something I follow regularly.

It has been close to three years now and I maynot boast of any extraordinary experiences, but Iam really inspired by this divine way of life. I amhere more because I get a lot of love and care,and it is a safe place for sincere spiritual seekers.

never to get disheartened seeing others. Eachsoul has its own journey and each soul’s effortis different. Comparing does not help, it just addsto stress. Baba’s versions or Shrimat areguidelines for a better life. In case due to anycircumstance, if you are unable to follow if fully,don’t feel guilty. Guilt is also body-consciousness. Continue making efforts to followshrimat as much as possible. Yoga and effortmaking should be consistent. To reap maximumbenefits, practise meditation daily. Maya willattack; the key is to continue fighting and makingeffort. Finally, it is my journey and my part inthe Drama with Baba. I am unique and so is mypart and journey!

What is ‘religion’?Most people whoconsider themselves

secular in their outlook as wellas tolerant monks and priests ofa few tolerant religions, give it aconvenient definition, convenientto buttress their secularcredentials: “Each religion is aroad leading to God”, like theproverb “All roads lead toRome”. Yet the followers ofmost religions will never agreeto this simple ‘seculardefinition’; because they havebeen brainwashed to look athumanity in two blocks: thosewho follow one’s religion are‘believers’ or the ‘faithful’ andthe rest are ‘non-believers’ orthe ‘unfaithful’. Each has hisown ‘god’ and proclaims withconviction that his god is the onlyGod and the gods of others arenot gods but demons! For them,only their individual road leadsto ‘Rome’ and the rest to ‘hell’!So, the oversimplified definitionis not accepted by most of thehuman beings, though it may begood to adopt that definition inorder to inculcate toleranceamongst people belonging tovaried beliefs and thereby ensure

peace in the society.I am not an atheist nor am I

a very religious person. Ibelieve in God’s existencemore as a form of ‘force’ or‘energy’ with which one canalign oneself and stay in unisonwith it. That notwithstanding, Ifind Richard Dawkins’ “GodDelusion” to be a convincingbook in many parts. I shallrestrict myself here to the partwhich is germane to the topicunder discussion. If a child isborn to a Christian or Muslimparents, is the child a ‘Christianchild’ or ‘Muslim child’ as thecase may be? In today’s societyand the societal systems andestablishments we haveevolved over centuries, theanswer is ‘yes, the child is aChristian or Muslim dependingupon its parenthood’. Does thechild feel so at the time of birthor in the initial years? No. Thechild is just a child; we startindoctrinating the childdepending upon what religionwe as parents were asked or‘conditioned’ to follow by ourparents and the society aroundus. Dawkins very clearlyexposes how a child born to

parents of a specific religion isforced to believe that he/shealso belongs to that religion.This part from this book, I likedmost, for no one can contest thefact that no new born childcarries with it a sticker that he/she is supposed to follow thedogmas and rituals that his/herfather and mother have beenfollowing without everquestioning them, because theywere handed down to them bytheir society or community orclerics! Amy Chua’s memoirs,‘The battle hymn of a TigerMother’, which has recently hitthe stands, brings this out verywell: We were told that ourparents knew what is bestfor us and so we followedwhat they told us, blindly. Wenever applied our mind – if wedid, we were chided; we weretold that the priests/clerics/hymns/psalms have ordainedthat we follow what we havebeen told. Anyone whoquestions commits a sacrilege!This is what Amy brings out inher book: how with the iron fisther mother imposed upon herand her sister everythingincluding what courses she andher sister were to study andwhat games they should play.Because she knew what is bestfor them! If they tried to opposethey were made to stand thewhole night in the cold outsidethe house half naked!

RELIGION

(Equivalent of the religiousostracism that takes place inalmost all the societies or the‘fatwas’ issued by the Muslimclerics to murder the perceivedblasphemer!!) At the end of thestory, the daughter rebels andshouts at the dictatorial Mother‘I hate you; you ruined my life’.

In a broader sense, byindoctrinating the innocent childwith our beliefs and prejudices– the basis for which we areourselves unsure except thatthey were time-honouredsocietal cum religious norms –are we not killing the ‘instincts’of imagination, creativity andcuriosity of the child? If we saywe (meaning our ancestors orthe priests and clerics who havelaid down the dogmatic rulesand rituals) know what is bestfor the child, so did Stalinimpose his prejudices andpreferences on almost thewhole of Slav race; so believedHitler, Mao and innumerabledictators! Religion thus is acodification of dictatorialdictums, threatening the peoplewho oppose with punishments,violence and indignities by acollective body called ‘thesociety or religious community’.Is it not boorish and primitiveexistence? How can, therefore,‘Religion’ be the road toGod?

A child when born is

irreligious. If he/she is allowedtotal independence of thought,then the child will startquestioning the various forms ofexistence, the process of birthsand deaths, the variety of formsof manifestation of Nature andthen evolve his/her own religionor ‘road to God or Truth’. He/She will never have anyintolerance to others followingdifferent routes in search of‘God or Truth’, for he/she willunderstand that there is nosingle way in which allcommunicate with God (I usethis term to refer to the ultimateEnergy of the TotalConsciousness of entirecosmic manifestation whichincludes we earthlings as well)and be in communion with Him;in fact, because the child wasallowed to grow in anatmosphere of ‘free thoughts’without any dogma or ritualsuperimposed on him/her, he/she when grown up iscomfortable with whatevermethod each follows to seek‘the ultimate truth’, theobjective being just one and thesame. Only, if such freedom ofgrowing up is allowed in theentire society, we can acceptthe secular definition: ‘allreligions lead to the same God’.In that sense if we are sixbillion people on the earth today,there are six billion religions and

all of them lead to the samepoint of zenith – call it “God”or “the realization of the Truth”.I dare say that there may begroups attending mass inchurches, praying (doing‘namaz’) in mosques andattending ‘bhajans and poojas’.But the individual in each ofthese groups even as he/she isengaged in the ‘combinedactivity’, is communicating withGod in his/her own way .Eachhas a way to plead, implore,seek God, ritualsnotwithstanding: that is what iscalled the unison of the soulwith the ‘total consciousness’.The greater the unison, thegreater is the resonance. Thatis why the degree of‘realization’ each attains variesfrom person to person. Theones who achieve the greatestresonance become the SwamiVivekanandas and MotherTeresas.

Permit me to digress a bithere. I shall return to the topicat the close of the paragraph:Before the dogmas of ritualsand ‘Manu’s rules’ wereimposed on the human societyin the geographical territory thatwe call the ‘Indian sub-continent’ today, the child whowas born ‘free’, was allowedto grow up in total freedom. Hewas merely taught to be gratefulto his parents and teachers and

hospitable to the guests:“Matru Devo bhava, PitruDevo bhava, Acharya Devobhava, Atithi Devo Bhava”(Mother is your God, Father isyour God, Teacher is your Godand the Guest is your God).Beyond that he was not put toany indoctrination: He was notasked to worship X God or YGod, nor was he told that hebelonged to A or B religion. Bythe time he was five years old,he was sent off with the teacherto the forest school called‘gurukul’. Here the teachertaught him academics, arts andcrafts and above all allowedhim to be with Nature so thathe learnt the art to survive, hesaw the Nature in its variousforms ,hues and seasons and sowas able to understand the“Brahma”(the Truth).That iswhy this stage of growing upwas called “Brahmacharya”(Brahma acharya – selfteaching of the ‘Truth’, the truthof existence, the truth of cosmicmanifestation and benevolenceand the connecting cordbetween the individual soul andthe common ‘total Conscious-ness’ or say “God”).

That was the way of lifecalled ‘Hindu way of life’,before it was seized by thepriests and clerics who in theiranxiety to regulate the society,brought in dogmas, rules and

rituals. If you look at ‘Hindu wayof life’ in its purest form, youwill realize (if you are able tothink objectively without anyprejudice of your conditionedmind) that each child when bornis a ‘Hindu’ free to choose his/her own methodology tocommunicate and stay incommunion with God. Pleasenote that I am making a cleardistinction between “Hindu wayof life” which is the basic,unadulterated way of existenceof the human soul and“Hinduism”. When it becomes“ism”, it also becomes amundane religion like any otherhaving its own set rules,unexplained and illogicaldogmas and superstitious rituals.

So, to my mind, religion is nota path to God. It is depicted asone so as to instill fear—literally‘the fear of God’. Any religionis basically a code book/ a rulebook for its followers. Such codebooks were necessary in orderto bring orderliness in thesociety so that as a communitythe followers followed a certainset of rules. And these ruleshave been interspersed withcertain spirituality so that therules are invoked by the ‘willand command of God’. AsVoltaire said ‘if there is no god,let us invent one!’.

Religion is the aggregation ofthe thoughts of a philosopher,

who incidentally is also a massleader. Obviously, the thoughtprocess of any one as relatingto ‘existence’ is kindled by‘Nature’ and so also in case ofthe originator of a religion: In asmuch as Judaism, Christianityand Islam were enunciated bythe ‘messiahs’ who were bornand grew up in the harshdeserts, their thought processwas based on ‘uniformity’(Nature manifesting itself inunending expanse of desertsand). That is why all thesereligions indoctrinate the peoplethat those who follow theirreligion are ‘the believers’ andthe rest ‘non believers’.Because desert conditions arevery harsh, these religions alsobelieved in conversions throughcoercion, force and violence.These religions were born to laydown code rules for warringArab tribes; so there is alwaysan element to force andsubjugate the unruly and theopposing tribes.

As opposed to this, Hinduism,even after it became a ‘religion’with its rituals and prejudices,was not the thought process ofany single individual. It is theaggregation of the thoughtprocesses of many personswho saw ‘Nature’ manifestingitself in diverse forms: as snow-capped mountains, lush greenriver valleys, breezy sea shores,

thick forests and also deserts, with variedflora and fauna. That is why, even whenthe ‘Hindu way of life’ got itself ‘ismed’into ‘Hinduism’, it has remained a pacifistreligion, believing in diversity. It is onereligion which does not believe in‘conversions’, least of all through violence.This position of course is slowly changingwith ‘religious fundamentalism’ beingpreached by some ‘misguided’ Hinduchauvinists.

What I was trying to explain was that ifwe remove the external veneer of ‘thereligion by birth’ that has been thrown as anuneasy cloak on every human being, we seethat the individual soul is irreligious and isalways yearning for ‘freedom of space andthought’, so that the soul can find in its ownway, what is its link with the entire Cosmos.And, as I said in a previous paragraph, thatis the’ Hindu way of life’. If we are thusable to see the souls in the humanity in theirpurest, innocent forms, they are all ‘Hindus’.There is no need for all the religious wars,‘Jihads’ and the so called ‘clashes ofcivilizations’. If our forefathers had beenas wise, there would have been no crusades,no colonization and no conversions throughmissionary zeal or through bloody wars.

It is still not late for us to save our innerselves, i.e., souls. Let us, start with acceptingthat ‘religion is a private affair’ of anindividual. Let us not intimidate the masseswith the fear of God’s wrath or through thebrutalities of fundamentalism. Let us haveour separate rules to run our societies, justas the laws of land passed by the people’sbodies such as the Parliaments and senates.Leave ‘religion’ unto each self.

Shrimad Bhagwad Gita isprivileged to enjoy never-dying glory as the highest

read and revered scripture of theworld. It is widely discussed anddebated with intense interestand enthusiasm and its versesare often quoted by the scholarsof different shades and sects toprove the authenticity of theirstatements. It is so muchrelevant even in the presentscenario that it has beentranslated into maximum numberof languages nationally andinternationally as well. The Gitaholds a paramount position forenlightening and awakeningmankind into excellence andexuberance. Even our Indiancourt has recognised it as themost authentic scripture toswear on, which is a strongevidence to prove itssignificance, among the super-abundance of Hindu scriptures.

It will not be an exaggerationto state that the Gita is the mostread and revered scripture thathas ever existed on this planet.It is uttered by IncorporealSupreme Soul, addressed to the

incorporeal souls about thespiritual knowledge mainlyrelating to the elimination ofMaya Ravan i.e., the fivenotorious vices; Lust, Anger,Arrogance, Attachment andGreed along with imbibing ofthe virtues like Purity, Peace,Compassion, Love, Toleranceand so on.

The admirable teachings ofthe Gita relating to almost allthe aspects of human life, andhaving the capacity to leadevery person across all castes,communities and countries to avirtuous life cannot beaddressed so narrowly to Arjunonly as has been presumed inthe Mahabharata. The fact ofthe matter is that GOD, who isthe Supreme Father of thewhole creation, wishes for thewelfare and well-being of alland guides every seekerwhosoever is inquisitive tolearn. He, thereby, illuminatesman’s life through the teachingsof the Gita.

The epic Gita contains thedialogues especially betweenShri Krishna and Arjun on the

battlefield of Kurukshetra,when the Pandavas and theKauravas with their respectivearmies are well arrayed on thebattlefield, confronting eachother. After watching all his kithand kin among the enemies,Arjun pales and numbs at thevery thought of killing them, thattoo for petty material gains andis over-powered by utterdespondency so terribly that heis reluctant to raise his bow atany cost. Shri Krishna, whocondescends to play Arjun’scharioteer and who is his friend,mentor, guide and what not,counsels him to perform hisreligious duty, without caring forits outcome, in order to save thedignity and honour of being aKshatriya. The noticeable issuehere is that with each dialogue,the name of the speaker ismentioned like ‘Sanjay uvach’,‘Arjun uvach’ but withKrishna’s dialogues the wordsare ‘Shri Bhagwan uvach’. Inorder to reach an acceptableconclusion about whether ShriKrishna is entitled to be calledGOD, let’s analyse some of thepredominant attributes definingand describing GOD, theAlmighty:1. GOD is light.2. He is a Supreme energy (for

the sake of convenience I amusing ‘He’ for the Supremethough He has no gender.

3. He is above the cycle of birth

and death hence not boundby the Law of Karma.

4. He transcends the barriers oftime and space.

5. His abode is Paramdham.6. He is Incorporeal.7. He is above all the dualities:

male-female, day-night, joy-sorrow, young–old etc.

8. He has no father, no mother.9.He manifests Himself or

descends when He wills.10. We are the souls and He is

the Supreme Soul.11.He is our Father and

salvages us from sufferingsas promised by Him in theverse – yada yada hidharmasya.......Now, with all due regards, if

we evaluate Shri Krishna on thebasis of the above referredcriteria, we may conclude thatalthough he is Satyug’swonderful deity endowed with allthe divine accomplishments, yethe is a super human being, bornof parents, undergoing pains andpleasures and ultimately meetingan end. Hence he is a deity butnot GOD.

In the Gita, Bhagwanuvach(to Arjun), ‘you cannot see mewith your physical eyes’. Thisalso implies for formlessSupreme Soul and not for ShriKrishna because he was verymuch visible through hismajestically beautiful body.

In most of the countries ofthe world, theists call GOD astheir Supreme Father. Theybelieve that He is light and an

energy. While only the Hindus,that too not unanimously, regardShri Krishna as GOD incarnatebut the world in general cannever reach a consensus aboutaccepting Shri Krishna asGOD. GOD, the omnipotent, iscalled the bestower of allhappiness and the eliminator ofall the sufferings. So it is Heonly who can be addressed asthe liberator, which can neverbe the attribute of anyoneexcept the Almighty:yadaa yadaa hi dharmasya ,

glaanirbhavati bhaaratahAbhyutthaanamadharmasya,

tadaatmaanmsrrijaamyaham

paritranayasadhunan vinashaya cha

dushkrritamdharmasansthapanarthaya

sanbhavami yuge yugeThis verse occurs in the

fourth chapter of the Gita and isoft-quoted as the evidence forGod’s assurance to descend onthis earth when the world orderfalls into the bottomless pit ofdegradation, when there islassitude, lewdness andlasciviousness all around. Hethen re-establishes a new socialorder called Satyug byannihilating the vicious and byprotecting the upright. Satyug isan era which exists on this earthitself when all the inhabitants arehundred percent soul-conscious.Their purity and divinity pervadenot only in each person, but alsoin each element of the

environment. The peopleresiding in this epoch are calleddeities.

Shri Krishna, being the mostvirtuous, adorned with all thesixteen accomplishments,occupies the topmost positionamong the deities of Satyug. Inthe hierarchy of social order,Satyug ranks number one whileKalyug, comes at number fourbecause the souls which are inits purest form in the golden ageof Satyug, keep descending andcrossing the Tretayug and thenDwaparyug and finally reachKalyug, the iron age which isan era of complete chaoscommotion, culpable cruelty,cunningness and corruption in itsworst form. This is the Agewhen ethics and morality arebutchered to pieces.Unfortunately presently we areliving and experiencing thisphase. The heinous andharrowing incidents havebecome the order of the day andhave shuddered and shatteredour spirits. This is the most apttime for GOD to salvage themankind from the cruelclutches of the vices.

Lo! He has already come tokeep His promise and has beenredeeming us by washing off ourvices which are the cause of oursorrows and sufferings. He islaying the foundation of theGolden Era i.e., Satyug, bypurifying souls from the evils andsimultaneously infusing them withvirtues, powers and knowledge.

He has established PrajapitaBrahma Kumari IshwariyaVishwa Vidyalaya for thispurpose. We may wonder whenGOD is the supreme energy andabove the bondage of life anddeath, then how come Hesalvages souls to usher in a newera? As GOD doesn’t possessphysical organs, he descends onthe soul of Shri Krishna who isplaying his last, eighty fourth rolein the body of a diamondmerchant Dada Lekhraj. Even inhis last birth on this earth, he isstill extraordinarily gifted withhuman attributes like religiosity,kindness, compassion anduprightness. GOD makes himHis instrument for disseminatingknowledge to purify people inorder to make them worthy ofentering the Golden Era. GOD isthe Supreme Father of the wholeexistence whose divine role is tocreate a progeny of pure soulsthrough the mouth of His humanmedium whom He gives thename Prajapita Brahma which isdescriptive of the duty he isperforming at His behest. We arerequired to know the fact thatdivine act of transforming Kalyuginto Satyug falls within the ambitof GOD only.

After going through thesignificant facts stated above,we may conclude that the battleof Mahabharata was neverfought physically, rather it is ametaphor to bring home to usthe war waging between theopposite forces in our mind i.e.,right and wrong, positivity andnegativity. In these dark times,when Kalyug has reached itsfag-end, the demonictendencies are gatheringmomentum day by day, whichare represented through theKauravas who are hundred andthe Pandavas, the symbol ofgoodness and virtues, who arejust five in number. This is theapt time for GOD to come inorder to transform the den ofdemons into the paradise of thepious by teaching Rajyoga.GOD prepares Shivshakti andPandav sena to nullify the evilaltogether and to lay thefoundations of the sovereignkingdom of Golden eraimplicitly. He is our Father whois an ocean of compassion.How can He ask His one childto kill another child? So, it mustbe clear now that thisMahabharata is all about non-violent war. Moreover, if we

scan the Gita, there are eighteenchapters in it; and there is noreference to armies, soldiers orfighting except in the firstchapter. From second toeighteenth, all the chapters dealwith different types of yoga,three modes of material nature,sat, raj and tam, renunciation,surrender to the Supreme Souland enlightenment. Is it notenough to prove thatMahabharata is not about anyviolent battle? Above all, itrepresents the current period ofKalyug we are passing through.

Although the peopleincluding the scholars and thelaymen, are convinced by thesestirring logical revelations: –1. GOD is the sermoniser of the

Gita.2. It is all about the battle going

on in the mind of man, Yetthey dare not challenge thescriptures which areembedded in their psycheirrevocably. If we somehowmanage to prepare aconsensus regarding thesetwo facts, it will bring anunprecedented change inhuman thinking about Godand the so-called multiplicityof God.

Real Happiness lies indivine qualities and not in

consumer goodsIn the final analysis, it can be

said that the qualities in mandetermine the quality of his lifeand his peaceful and happy ordisquiet and sorrowful state.But, it is a pity that man hasbeen trying to find happiness inruling over vast territories,possessing lot of property orwealth and having variouscomforts. He is trying toachieve success, name andfame of political and economicpower even if he had to give upthe divine qualities and resort tonegative or demonical qualities.This has evidently led todegradation of the soul,degeneration of the society anddisquiet and sufferings ofvarious kinds.

Our present stateindicates a fall

If we accept this analysis ofour present predicament, thenwe have to admit that we havehad a fall in moral values anddivine qualities and what werequire today to extricate anduplift us from this situation iseducation that can restore thedivine qualities in us. Our all

other efforts to make the worlda better place to live in wouldbe of no avail unless and untilthere is a qualitative change inour nature and behaviour.Is qualitative improvement

possible?In this context, some people

express their pessimism aboutthe possibility of such a changeon a vast scale. They say thatgreat religious leaders likeChrist, Buddha and Mohammedtried their best to lead man upto moral heights but they did notsucceed. They overlook the factthat even though the teachingsof such great leaders generatedmany good qualities yet theirwrong interpretation gave riseto some demoniac traits as well.For example, Buddhism, nodoubt, preached non-violencebut it promoted individualism andbegging and gave the negativebelief that the world has alwaysbeen full of sorrow. Islampreached faith in one God butat the same time some of theirfollowers vehementlydenounced other religions, thusgenerating hatred. Christianityasked man to become good butit also preached the concept of‘original sin’ and man’s possibleliberation only through Christ

and thus man’s ceaseless effortsto be free from sins.

Complete peace comesfrom complete purity

Complete peace, it should beremembered, comes fromcomplete purity or full-fledgeddivine nature. Even a fractionof one demonical trait leads tolessening of peace in thatproportion if not more.

It should also be noted thatdemonical qualities havelinkages among themselveseven as divine qualities areconnected among themselvesand strengthen and sustain eachother. As liberation from onenegative quality leads to at leastsome liberation from othernegative qualities, similarly evenour little effort to inculcatedivine qualities can leadultimately to a great change inour nature and result inenhancement in the quality ofour inner happiness.

One must, therefore, in one’sown interest and in the interestof building a better world, payattention to the task ofrestoration of divine qualities.Therein lies the true hope of ourown liberation and improvementof the material, social andspiritual condition of our world.
